Her look at him went blank a moment before she looked away, not really staring at anything in particular, perhaps just out into the oh so real yet unreal scene they were surrounded in. "I used to watch them like that all the time. The fancies of a young scientist who just did the impossible. You've seen the picture in my room..." Yes, she was once ago rather relaxed, carefree as James had called her.
"But when I did...things went wrong. Maybe it was just the early stages of the project, or maybe something else...but it just seemed that the less I gave into my own wants to just be amazed, the better things got." Which was probably not true, every project had their bad first years. But she was always hard on herself. Now all she did have of that carefree nature was indeed that picture.
"I'm still not objective about my work with them at all...but I'm not that subjective either. Less than I used to be anyway." And she went quiet. Hm...kinda awkward.

"every project has it's bad years. even those that are firmly established. and you were breaking new ground then, and you still are. but that doesn't mean you need to lose your sense of wonder about them. It's part of the appeal, part fo the glory of your project. you've made myths real. Nowhere else cna you see a fenrir or a hippogryph. only in fantasy novels before coudl you gaze into the eyes of a dragon, or enjoy watching Kitsunes play in thier forested habitats."
then grin and he picked hr up, carful of her arm, and put her in his lap, idly brushing her hair with his fingers.
"It's the wondering child within that makes a good scientist. you can't bury it under paperwork."

She gave an odd little look when he picked her up and moved her to his lap, taking to finger combing her hair. Wasn't expecting that. But she just sighed and leaned back into his chest, letting him play at her hair. She was supposed to be relaxing right?
"Or it makes you a crazy scientist." She sighed lightly again. "Perhaps one could just call me scared of what may happen if I just let things come as they may and go with the flow...a loss of control maybe. I don't know. I'm sure a therapist would have a field day with my head though."

"Field day with both our heads, I'm sure. and I didn't mean just let things go withteh flow...I just ment take some time to remember the wonder of what your doing, rather than just filling your mind with Variant traits or DNA strands or what can I create next. just some relaxation time."
A grin, and putting his arms around her waist, kissing her uninjured shoulder lightly.
"Like you said yourself, it makes you feel lighter, more at ease. and your eyes look so much better, not so clouded with a hundred other thoughts."

Yes, this was very nice indeed. Calm serene scene with her and James just sitting there lazily, nothing in particular on their minds, him holding her. It was quite the moment really. Hm, Jelena would need to relax more.
"Do they now? I wouldn't know. I don't think I've taken the time to actually look in a mirror lately to see exactly how bad I look from all of this apparent stress." She snuggled into James, making herself comfortable for the time being. Then a laugh. "Here's an idea. Once a week we can shut down the power to everything but the habitats and the things that need constant running. Then I'll be forced to just watch."

He enjoyed it when she snuggled up agasint him, and just gave her a gentle appreciative hug, before a grin at her comment.
"I coudl arrange that, no problem. Once a week, say friday?"
one of those you don't know if he's kidding or not kind of looks, and a chuckle.

She laughed. "And when Friday rolls around I will have completely forgotten about that comment and be neck deep in work when all of a sudden my power will go out. Next thing you know I'm screaming at things and throwing a fit. Then you come in to save the day and probably Erik and my techs." Another laugh. "I think that's charming, I can't really quite figure it out."

"Oh but it will be fun. and I cna always send you memos that you are relaxing on friday."
Another chuckle, and a sigh, just holding her, and a bit of time, to a sunrise VR style, and the morning music of the forested area. a tap on her shoulder a look over, as these virtual animals woudl react as any real one, for her to get a glance at white tailed deer, drinking from the stream they were nearby.

"And I'll look at it as if it means nothing. Things slip my mind easily that way you know." And a slight laugh before she sighed and closed her eyes briefly, more of sensing the sunrise than watching it. Though she did open her eyes to watch as well, no point in missing it.
Though at his tap she looked over, a smile settling on to her features. Ah behold the beauty of nature and it's creatures. Though her mind went slightly sideways with the notion. A white tailed deer, the base genetic structure for her Perytons. But that thought was soon canceled out by her more relaxed mood easing her to just stop analyzing at the moment.
Jelena just stayed quiet, watching the animal go about it's way. One could in fact reach out and touch it, and it would be like touching a real one. Hm, so close yet so far to being and not being.

A grin, watching her, and after the deer had left back into the forestry, he smile slightly.
"So, think Erik is driving himself nuts wondering where we are and what we are doing yet? or yiu think he's neck deep in Echo trouble again?"
It was good to see her so relaxd and at ease, and while she was distracted by the deer, he reached over and snagged her OODDS, putting them in a pocket.
"We can stay here as long as you like, Jelena. whatever makes you relaxed and happy."

"Erik is probably sitting at my desk with his feet propped up on the corner, drinking coffee and snacking down on a donut or two. Seems to be about that time of day. And I think he's not giving a though to what we are doing because he doesn't want to create scenarios in his head. He's imaginative."
But she sighed at his last statement, giving no particular look to it at all. "The world waits for no one James. You know that. Staying as long as one likes in a place is a luxury that is not very often affordable."

"Then are you ready to head back to Echo and put erik to work, or maybe torment his imaginative little mind by giving the appearance we did something a little more intimate?"
A chuckle, before getting himself up, helping her to her feet as well, and kissing the back of her hand.
"It is always a wonderful pleasure to spend some time with you, Jelena. and trust me feel free to do this anytime."

She smiled and nodded to him. "Right so change my search pattern. If I'm not in my office come here first and then my room. I really think I'm going to use the hell out of this one." She really did feel better. Then a raised eyebrow at him. "You just want to mess with that man's head don't you?"
But she then shrugged and cringed again. Had to remember to not shrug... "Why put Erik to work when I have the day off. Knowing my crew they're probably already slacking. Might as well let them slack the whole day. Just as long as my Echoes get fed."
And thus she turned around to grab her OODDS where she had set them aside. And promptly began in a fidgety state. "Okay...I know I left them right here..."

James dug in his pocket, and produced her OODDS.
"Looking for these, Jelena dear? I didn't want you to lose them, so I picked them up just in case."
And of course to keep them from her as long as possible, but that fidgety state was almost like a drug addict that misplaced thier fix.
"and of course I like messing with Erik's head. it's fun, don't you think?"

Jelena looked all too relieved. "Don't do that too me." Walking back over to James she took the little self invented device, shoving it in her own pocket then putting on the glasses part and pushing them up to rest in her hair on top of her head. "Endearing gesture really...but I'm just odd about my OODDS."
But she shook her head, setting a hand to her hip, letting her injured arm hang limp at her side, not wanting to agitate it more than it was already at this point in time. "What's more fun is replacing his sugar with salt. That man puts so much sugar in his coffee it's unbelievable."
