Gion nodded again. "For sure," he agreed. "After all, I'm running out of adventures to have here." He laughed, a deep, throaty chuckle.
Anyways, he thought, dissipating the dream world once again and returning to reality, Since we're here, I might as well do what we came here to do - stock up on food and have a decent meal.

Yes... you need one...
Daemon returned to his normal way of talking, though he would have nodded if he could.
Your mother would have a fit if she knew how long it's been since the last decent meal.

She knows I can take care of myself, Gion replied with a mischievous grin. She knows that traveling all the time means that meals aren't always what they should be. Besides, she's gotten used to the fact that I travel, and despite the stories that have sprung up because of us, I know she worries more about trouble while traveling rather than my diet.
He headed into the kitchen to join Ulani again.

Hey at least it's a reputation that says, don't cross paths. That kind of reputation isn't so bad except when you attract the stupid, and since they are often stupid the only thing you need to fear is the stupidity.
Which was true in a way, as far as Daemon was concern. Though he had to admit it Gion's reputation for being uncanny would be an uneasy one for some. He hoped his abilities stayed wtih Gion, Gion would make good use of them he felt.

Ulani looked up as Gion entered the kitchen, and nodded towards the table. "Set for dinner," she grinned. "Lucky for you, I made extras tonight. And you'll be staying for the night, of course, won't you?"
She poured three glasses of ale at the counter and brought them over to the table, the final preparation. "And breakfast tomorrow, since you'll need time to stock that bag of yours," she added with a certain nod. "Your mother will not be able to point at us when she comes back and say we haven't taken care of you."

Gion agreed with Daemon silently, and rolled his eyes at Ulani. While he was thankful for her help, he couldn't help but remember the fact that he was now twenty-four years old, and despite his still childish appearance, he was old enough - beyond old enough - to be taking care of himself. Seriously, by the time his father had been this age, he'd already been married and had five children!
Thank you, was all that he signed to Ulani, however. He wasn't an ingrate, whatever his thoughts.
But he sighed to Daemon. They still treat me like a child, even after all these years.

To be fair, they have had little people to treat like children.
Daemon replied softly.
Especially in the past six years, they need someone they can still treat like a child. Besides, they're old, far older, and while it means nothing to elves, the generation gap still exists. A grandparent will still dote on their grandchild even after the child is an adult, or at least Yume's grandmother did up until she passed away.

Gion's eyes softened at Daemon's counsel. It was true, Ulani especially needed someone to take care of as a son ... Terexin's death had been so sudden and unexpected, it had hit all of them hard, but Ulani especially so ... though she hid it better than Ulrich.
Still, Gion knew them well enough now to tell.
You're right, he conceded to Daemon, the tone of his thought kind and apologetic. He smiled at Ulani and slid into a chair by the table.

Ulani grinned and set some his ale in front of him, then nodded at the mounds of food on the table. "Help yourself," she told him. "I'm going to find Ulrich for a minute. Be right back."
She headed out into the livingroom.

Perhaps it's not such a bad thing by telling them we'll be sticking around longer than expected. It's not like we have anywhere we really need to be quickly or anything, and the land it's going to change drastically in a year, much less several months.
Daemon told Gion thoughtfully, it had been six years of travelling, adventuring and mapping all this time.
You need a vacation.

Vacation? Gion questioned as he reached for a large slab of venison.
But about sticking around - he didn't want to lead more humans here in their apparent joy of seeking him out for a fight.

A time where you can relax without worrying about most of the things you normally worry about when you travel. Since travelling has also become your work, not to say it isn't enjoyable, but it would be nice for you to have another rest.
Daemon mused for a moment.
Besides how far can we go before we need to make it back here on time?

It's nearly a year away yet, Gion replied bemusedly as he began eating. And though the idea of a nice long rest is appealing, we could quite conceivably go to the Southland and back in that time - easily. I think it's about time I head back and visit Nako. She deserves to know what's been happening. Don't you think so?

Daemon could also be seen grinning at the thought.
Excellent idea! She would like it very much, just to know that also Serenity, your mother is doing well. As long as she's with the family and Elnara, I'm sure she'll have a fine time there.

Besides, Gion added, taking a drink. I still haven't mapped the Southland. Not the elvish half, anyways. And six years really is too long to be gone without even communicating with my family. Maybe we can put in a visit to the plantation as well, I know Nadya would be happy to know how Elnara is - that is, if she doesn't already know.
He chuckled his silent laugh.
