"Ah. That makes sense." Mala said, watching for a couple more secconds before she spoke again. "Next time I'll try to start the fire, I promise." she said, sitting herself on the ground and yawning quietly. Mala glanced over at Riley, to see how he was faring at the moment.

Van's campfire lesson had bored Riley, and the boy had drifted off to sleep. He lay peacefully on the ground holding his staff close like a stuffed animal.
"Guess he was more tired than hungry." Van said with a small smile as he looked over at Riley while he walked over to sit against a tree.

Mala chuckled softly. "My, I guess he'll have to wait until he wakes to eat." Mala said quietly with much amusement. "So Van, shall I still go and get those berries? Or shall I wait for tomorrow?" she asked, making absolutely sure that she kept a tone loud enough to be heard yet soft enough not to wake Riley up.

"Yeah, food for morning would be good. Can't really do much on empty stomach, and I was planning on waking him up bright and early to start training." Van said in equally quiet tone as not to wake Riley.

Mala got herself up. "Very well, I'll be back with those berries soon. I think I saw a couple berry bushes on the way here." she said, heading off for about fifteen minutes or so before returning with a large handful of blueberries. "How're these?"

"Perfect!" Van said swiping a berry from her hand and popping it in his mouth. "So this is your plan? Just...wander around with Riley in tow? You could probably settle down in a different town you know."

Mala put the rest in a pouch in her backpack. "Pretty much. If I settled down in another town, I'd be expected to eventually marry one of the residents and have his babies since I'm no longer a priestess. I don't want to get married to someone just because I'm expected to." she admitted with a slight frown. "Besides, once Riley is old enough, he'll have the option to go off on his own and leave me behind. When he does that, I don't want to be alone and cooped up in one house with my only other option for platonic companionship being adoption or a pet." she admitted, her gaze sinking to the ground as she said this.

"Magic or not, it's still not exactly safe for a lady to be traveling alone." Van said. "Unless you're planning on actively stalking me for the remainder of my immortal life." he joked.

"It can be just as dangerous living alone - given the laws or unruliness of a certain place as a whole." Mala pointed out, leaning herself back with her hands propped on the ground as she gazed at the sky. "I don't plan on staying with you forever. Once we must go different paths, we shall. Besides, I doubt you'd want to keep any certain person around for long enough - someone like myself especially."

Van raised an eyebrow at Mala before getting up and walking around her, leaning down so there was hardly any room between their foreheads. "You keep saying things like that and putting yourself down. Stop that."

"I'm simply thinking of how I treated you before, and I'm pretty sure I haven't improved much since then. I've only been less of an intentional b***h, now haven't I?" Mala then went on to apologize, "Sorry the welcome-out-of-being-alone-in-a-ring greeting was less than pleasant."

Van just shrugged. "I basically came out of nowhere, possessed your brother, and told you to help me. I would've been a little bitchy too." he said as he sat down next to her. "In my opinion, you've already 'improved' quite a bit. Like actually calling me Van as opposed to 'rotten thief' or some other family-unfriendly word."
((Getting off now. Have to get ready to go see a comedy show. biggrin ))

Mala's frown lifted up to a light smile. "I'm glad you can see where I was coming from. Plus, I just eventually memorised what your name was and remembered it." she said, shrugging.

Mikhael kept following Belin. He spoke up again. "So. You and your friend... you're just classic adventurers? I mean, 'go around saving people' types?" It seemed like small talk, but he Just wanted to know enough about who he was dealing with.

No clue where she got the word, some old book, I assume. She's young, though, most mages go through the revolutionary phase at one time or another, and I'm rambling, aren't I?"
