Finally she reached the the final stretch of stairs for this floor, and she wanted to collapse. But she had a feeling this wasn't over. Why couldn't have they all been flown to the top, or teleported. That would have been grand. Life just wasn't that easy unfortunately. As she passed the doorway Azmodel let an expletive go. Or at least she intended to, but she couldn't feel the words leaving her throat. She frowned but let it go. No one could hear her anyway, so why bother? Plus she wasn't here to have tea, she wanted the Voice's head. Still, more stairs? She wanted to groan. And the air felt heavy... Her body was telling her to stop and take a rest but no, she was sure it was the Voice trying to stop her. So she wouldn't listen. And up she went. Only height steps and Azmodel had to stop for a while. She felt so weighted down she could collapse anytime. So she concentrated on counting the steps to fill the silence in her head at least, and it gave her an objective. After a few minutes she continued ascending. On and on she wound up and up and up. She was beginning to think this tower had no end. Was this just a trick of The Voice was this the after life? Bloody Jack the Voice was back. Maybe it was because she had spent so much time without hearing anything but the Voice seemed strange... And really Azmodel found it easier to resist it's power. Probably because she was so exhausted. The words were probably meant to be frightening but the winged ghoul didn't care. She knew it all already. But she preferred going down with the Voice than keeping on enduring such an empty existence. Revenge was driving her. As she kept going Azmodel pondered on what the Voice said, and what the Pillar had shown in the mirror. She was a fragment of... a ghoul, Azmodel, a Valkyrie. What a Valkyrie was the former Shadow did not remember. She felt bitter rage at the manipulation the Voice had used on her and all the others. Yes she would disappear with the Voice when they would destroy it but at least she would be free. Azmodel passed another winged ghoul in the stairs, but did not try to communicate. She was too tired to stop, or she wouldn't start again. Were those stairs ever going to end??? The tower did not seem so high from the outside... did it? As she stepped over the 200th step, the Voice could be heard in her head once more. This time it was not trying to dominate her, to make her bow it It. The offer was tempting, Az had to admit. Becoming King, and having the seven Kingdom rebuilt and all she could dream of... But she wouldn't be real. She would stay a fragment. The Voice would regret creating the Black Kingdom, because Revenge cannot be strayed. And after coming this far she wanted to see what was at the top. Seven more steps and she tripped, almost falling flat on her face. Heaving, Azmodel took a moment to rest. It wouldn't do for her to fall back at the bottom of this staircase. Nope, not at all. She had lost count, too tired to care, but as she started walking again the Voice sounded, and it seemed tired. "If you tread further, then you will see only disappointment. I wish only for one True King. I do not wish for anything else. What will you gain from reaching me other than what you already know?A sadistic smirk appeared on the valkyrie's face. Not so cocky now are we?She didn't care what the Voice's intentions were, it had no right to do what it did. And she would reach it if only to punch it in the face. Plus, there must be something interesting up there for it to want to keep her away from it so much. Almost there... She was sure of it... It had to be... Bloody Mary, make the end of the stairs be near... And there it was. A door, at least.
