I hate the ED so hard sometimes. I'm tempted to pose the point that Plate Tectonics should not be taught in schools because it's "just a theory" because, apparently in science, the word "theory" is self-invalidating, so evolutionary theory must have no basis in fact.

Nevermind that scientific theory is based on evidence and that if we ignore theories because they are theories, we must also ignore continental drift and cell theory, as well as gravity.

Considering I don't know what you're talking about (couldn't find the thread in ED you were talking about), I'll just say that acceptance or refusal of theories should not be absolute, since some theories, even though scientific, may be refuted at any given time in the future, or that asinine theories may well prove to be closer to reality. Let us all remember Avogadro for the latter case. But then again, it may just be the Flying Spaghetti Monster toying with what we believe to be evidence of the validity of a theory.

There's evolution, but let's say from the pointo f view of creationists, it probably started from good ol' Ad and Eve, not the monkeeeeeees. And from those peeps into intelligent design, evolution might not be due to natural selection, but the direct interference of an intelligent force. Or again, ffrom the Pastafarian point of view, the FSM just changes our perception of the world with it's noodley apendages.

I dunno, you generalize things, maybe. What recurs in general perception can be extrapolated into a theory, I guess. Then you need evidence, experiments and so on to see whether the theory stands or not. I guess it becomes law when it's undeniable. But then, maybe tautologies like 'not everyone can be rich' will prove to be wrong as we learn more and enter some kind of paradigm shift that clears our minds to limited coil dimensions and unlimited dimensions parallel to ours, and blah blah blah. For all I know, I could be talking to the beings who control my mind from behind the curtains and make me think that I'm thinking, which would make Descartes a liar, for if these beings actually do control our thoughts but make us feel that we are the ones thinking, then it is not true that 'I think, therefore I am', which would lead me into knowing that I do not exist, and so the semblance of cognition will fade from the shell I beleived was me, and I will fade into the dimensions exterior to existence. If certain dimensions exist, and certain dimensions don't exist, then it is not irrelevant to think that dimensions that don't exist in our existence exist in no-existence. Therefore, existence is relative to the state of being or, not-being thereof.
