I should have noticed them soonr... maybe I could have helped him...

I should have noticed them soonr... maybe I could have helped him... If anything the maggots did him good. Maggots clean wounds and stuff, people used to use them as medicine. Their gross as anything I've ever seen, but also good for you. Like vegetables.

Leeches were used to draw poisons and contaminants out of the blood, while maggots clean the gunk out of the wounds.

On the other hand, Maggots were also used to clean wounds of infected, diseased, or even dying/dead tissue. That of course doesn't mean they didn't cause other problems in the process. Now days when we do use them for medical purposes they are followed with other clinical chemicals to kill anything they may have left behind. I'm sorry for your loss though, I know how hard it can be to lose a pet and family member. I've lost two dogs myself and I also work at an animal hospital.
