Daemon the Sword

PostPosted: Tue Jun 05, 2007 7:30 pm

It would be! We would make an odd group if we could find a human to travel with.

Daemon laughed a bit at the thought because mix matched groups weren't that uncommon back home.

It's so strange...

He commented softly.

Travellers back home are as common as coins back home, it was only the rare jewel of a traveller that had anything interesting.

Well it's too dangerous here, Gion replied seriously. There just isn't enough trust between the races ... it wouldn't work well. I mean, it has been done ... just not successfully.

He chuckled silently again, remembering one story of such an attempt for different races to travel together.

Well not just groups, I mean just travelling in general.

Daemon laughed a bit at the reference once made about Gaia.

At any rate, it's a sad thought that there isn't enough trust overall for travelling in groups among races.

Gion shook his head again. Traveling in general is too dangerous, he replied sadly. No one travels alone nowadays. It was safe at one time ... but not anymore. Most people would say I'm crazy for doing what I'm doing, but with you I feel safe.

I'm glad you do... though another sad thing. Granted travelling around Gaia isn't safe completley, but since most of us take it for granted that one should at least have one sharp pointy object even going for a drink somewhere outside of one's home, I guess no one has really thought about it.

I didn't mean because you're stuck in a sword and are pointy and sharp, Gion thought quickly, feeling a pang of guilt. I didn't mean that at all ... I meant for your company, and your sight ...

He frowned, still feeling bad for saying something Daemon took the wrong way.

Daemon laughed, it looked like Gion was even sensitive for others.

That's not what I meant, I meant is that back home in the cities, or at least the trading hubs. You always needed to at least have some sort of advantage to get yourself out of trouble. Half of the Gaians take for granted that there will always a chance be trouble around the corner, or something unusual, while the other half live life completely obviously to the fact there are strange occurances every day.

Gion blinked. Even in the cities? he asked incredulously. That's odd ... I can't imagine not feeling safe in your own home city. Are things really so dangerous there?

He couldn't help but worry about Elnara, though he knew she was capable of defending herself even without a weapon.

In the trading hubs there is always a chance of a problem, because those are the points where people go to and from other places.

Daemon explained carefully, he supposed if he thought about it, a lot of the current concepts were unknown. He supposed it might be more like that in the human cities from what he could tell.

It's not bad actually, if you live the normal life. Normal as in, you produce or sell something during the day and go home at night unless you want to go out with friends. That part you rarely if never see of life in the city. It's once you start exploring the more active taverns things start to get a bit... messy. If you travel a lot, are seeking something of important or all around just don't have the usual occupation then you might attract, or end up attrached to places where there's a potential of a fight. I looked for magicked artifacts for a living, Yume was a spiritualists, and Long... well Long tended to know the darker circles in the city as part of his job, so the three of us were far from normal.

~~~ About six years later ... ~~~
It has been six years now since Gion left his home and started wandering the world with Daemon. Or rather, to be exact, six and a half years. They've been to each of the lands, mapped out most of them, been in more fights to the death than either of them would like to remember - and become rather rich off of selling the maps that Gion makes. Yet it isn't for the gold in his bag that he's targeted for attacks: the rune on it allows him to carry any amount of items without adding either weight or used space to his bag.
Something else that has happened since he began his wanderings all those years ago: rumours have been spreading around all Four Lands that there is a child warrior wandering the world, and that any who meet him should beware, and avoid a fight at all costs.
Gion only grinned when he heard of that rumour, for of course it was his sword - or rather, the seer within, Daemon - who made him seemingly invincible. But he had been through his fair share of injuries. He just knows certain people who can heal him each and every time.
And at this particular moment, he was on his way to go and visit those people again. Daemon the sword was strapped on his back, as usual, as he passed through the last of the mountains before entering into the valley where Ulani and Ulrich Aldrich lived. He had been gone a particularly long time this time, and besides seeing them, he was hoping to see his mother again - since she at times lived there as well.
More than six years after his awakening, Daemon had gotten use to being a sword, as use to as a person could get at any rate. Over the years he had begun to excerise more of his abilities, and tested the limits of his bond to Gion. More out of necessity than anything else. He could now see through Gion's eyes, he wasn't quite as deaf though he was sure he never had that good of a hearing as a human. His ability to see the threads that connected everything and everyone, and the auras that surrounded them had passed onto Gion through him.
He had begun getting other glimpses but otherwise he wasn't that sure. There was plently of dream walking though, which was as close as he was going to get at this point in having his body back.
Think mother'll be there this time? Gion asked Daemon as he looked around the now insanely colourful world he was living in. He was used to this by now, though, as well as the threads he had started seeing on people's pinky fingers at times.
Serenity had been in the Borderlands, living with Ulani and Ulrich, for almost every visit Gion had made - still, he always questioned Daemon beforehand, just to get the man's guess and see how it panned out.
I don't know.....
Daemon didn't seem that certain she would be there.
I know she's been around, but since the attack, I don't think she wants to be hanging around Ulani and Ulrich more than neccesary.
Not to say that Serenity didn't want to be caught in the middle, but it wasn't much of a secret that the two and their family as a whole had been attacked. Since the attack on Elnara, there was a chance there was a link, and Serenity probably knew it too.
Damn humans, Gion frowned. Sorry, Daemon.
It wasn't that he had a problem with all humans, he had in fact met several humans on his travels that he had gotten along with just splendidly - but the ones he was referring to ... well, they were damned. Dead and burning. If the stories about human afterlives were true, anyways.
He spotted Ulani and Ulrich's house in the distance and felt a bit of relief. Soon he would be able to rest again.
None taken.
Daemon replied back seriously, he really was serious for the few times, and he was so sadden by the state of things here at times. Not just on the human side, but on the elven as well.
It's a sad thought that they cause most of the trouble, but well.... it's an unfortunate truth around here.
