I'm trying to work up the energy to once again explain to someone why they are not an Eclectic Wiccan and why believing in the Rede, the Threefold Law, and the Lord and Lady doesn't mean they're Wiccan by a long shot.

exactly! i did this to some girl in a "Wiccan" forum just today or yesterday [i'm sick... my memory is shot sweatdrop ]. following the Rede does NOT make you Wiccan! does no one understand orthopraxy?

they've got this thread going over there BAWWWing about how people from this forum and around M&R constantly correct them about how they label themselves. i keep having to correct them even there =/

To be fair, orthopraxy isn't very mainstream (from what I can tell) so when people hear about it, it's a sort of "Wait, what? Are you shitting me??" moment. But once they want to stop with the BAWWWWing and tantrum it isn't a hard idea to work their mind around at all.

And I agree with Nuri; I want to see this too.

If she doesn't, I'm well within my rights to refer it to a mod for harassment, at which point the guild itself could be dissolved. It's really within the guild captain's best interest to dispose of the thread 3nodding

Sweet's a crew member in that guild too...so she'll probably at the least have a word with the guild capt.

To note, I was kind of sad to see that I wasn't mentioned in there; I feel mildly jilted xd

[...]but I am not queen of the ED.

several years ago in GD when it sucked a bit less, a prommie proclaimed herself queen of GD. just about everyone didn't mind it, and when she posted in your thread it was a big deal [if you weren't prominent]. she could pull strings with the mods. kind of like how paris hilton got out of jail. basically i'm saying it's possible XD

back on topic, though, i believe it was Violet who shocked me out of my little bubble and told me that when i bought books that had Wicca on the cover, i wasn't actually buying books about Wicca. i didn't understand wtf she was talking about at first, but then i caught on. sure, i was caught off guard and got defensive, but in retrospect that's exactly what i needed. was it friendly at first? probably not, but not exactly abrasive, either.

i agree, though, trainwrecks do not need to happen. but i think that both sides can fuel that fire.

Me, Violet?
redface .

I try to go in initially as polite and civil because yea, being informed that you're misinformed sucks. A lot. I only tend to be brash and rude when I'm sick of dancing in circles with the person in question. Someone can only be so patient and kind, ya know?

The guild deleted the thread emo . Which is probably good. Although considering that thread was about a month old, it's a bit appalling that the guild capt didn't take care of it sooner.

surprised : Another blissful day on the beach.

neutral : We didn't have game tonight, but the trip to the bar to watch hockey was a decent substitute.

scream : I find the number of people I find morally tolerable rapidly diminishing, whether thru unrealistic standards, or my own misanthropy, I know not.
$@#%-it people, when you win, do so with some dignity, there is no need to grind salt into the wound. that only makes the person hateful enough to cause more conflict, oh and it shows what an @$$ one is.
$#@&#xin;g kill them or have some magnanimity.
Blood on my blade, if I bear witness to this event in person one more time, it will be me, not their defeated foe, they deal with.

So, last night I got to watch a debate between two Religous Studies doctors. biggrin

One was from a private Christian college, the other was from the public univerisity I'm transfering to next semester. Their debate was on "Does the concept of God belong in Religious Studies?"

Now, to clarify a bit. Non-Christian doctor says that keeping religious convictions held back, and to take the class as objectively as possible is best for the class and understanding the material, arguing that bias can be ...maybe not detrimental, but can keep you from fully understanding the religion in question.

Christian doctor says that having God present while learning about other religions is not detrimental, and that it can help you learn and grow in your own beliefs, keep them tested and under scrutiny, and (and I may be misquoting, because I don't remember this one as well) that gives a good comparison for them to work from.

Both men were outstandingly polite, understanding, mature, and very well spoken. I commend them both for such behavior and thoughtfulness they gave each other. So, after they debated between themselves for about 30 minutes, the audience was given an open question and answer portion for them to debate and discuss. Some of the questions were really thoughtful.

However, the stupid ******** behind me who tried to ask them half-assed questions that made no sense need to shut the ******** up, and NOT KEEP arguing with a ******** DOCTOR who just answered your question and you're too stupid to realize that. scream

They never even realised that the whole time the doctors spoke of bias, it doesn't mean only religous people have bias. Non-religious people have their own bias that can be every bit as detrimental as someone who has religious bias, especially if you take it too far.
Both doctors admitted this, and the public university doctor said yes, he had his own bias (that he should reach for objectivity, even though his own perceptions made this subjective), and the Christian doctor said he had his bias as well. They mentioned how they dealt with this bias was an important factor in how you view the religious study. It made me so angry that they weren't paying attention, or thoughtful enough to say, "Hey, that's what I'm doing right now".

I found the whole thing very worthwhile and enlightening, but having about 3-4 really dense people basically try to say "Xians r dum!" in question format is very frustrating, and very rude to a man defending himself quite well, and politely, on foreign turf.

A place to rant?!

Oh boy...

April's been a weird month for my closest friends. It's been rather upsetting.

Two of my close friends have been hit by cars (one was walking, the other was cycling). Both of them are in rough shape. P had to get stitches, has huge cuts on her face and lost 4 teeth. D who was walking, got a dislocated hip and some massive bruises.

My girlfriend went to a party in her hometown and some a** slipped ghb in her drink. Thankfully one of her best friends caught on to what was happening and took her somewhere safe before anything worse happened.

I'm so sick of people treating other people like s**t.

I started last night and it's all good. I caught it on time and nothing got messy. Went to bed.
Woke up early, felt like staying up. Random cramps. Just generally pissed off at the world. I'm getting really annoyed at my boyfriend because of him obsessing over military stuff. He's ******** out of the military, he should leave it behind. Him and his guns and all the ******** stuff that's military related. If he wanted to stay in, he should've ******** chose to.
I want to draw, but I need a shower first. I feel so gross. I'm really hot and sweaty and my joints ache. But I'm cold too.
I also need to read some more.
But drawing's a priority. I have the idea in my head. Let's see if I can actually get it on paper.
And I want more paper. I'm running out of big drawing paper. And it pisses me off.

Excuse me, ******** b***h?

When someone I respect (oh wait, "used to" is a bit more accurate now) tells me that words are trivial and that taking offense at certain words is trivial I just want to step on her throat and ask her if she's ever ******** faced any real persecution in her ******** life.

Because I can ******** guarantee, when people like me are raped and murdered without the law giving a s**t, denied jobs, denied healthcare, treated like freaks and all using several words to enforce this attitude, you best ******** believe I will take offense to those words. I am not safe even going to the ******** bathroom.

And you better ******** realize that the way those words are used and their impact is not ******** trivial.

The words former friend come to mind at this point. You just keep digging your ******** hole deeper and deeper. Go on b***h. Tell me they're just words. Keep on trying to appease culture rapists by telling me that the words used to enforce bigotry, murder, rape and denial of basic rights are trivial. Go on and try to keep the peace on a religious matter by ******** over every disenfranchised group that is branded with slurs by your words, you ******** a*****e.

Dig yourself deeper b***h. I'll be filling in the grave right above you.

Hopefully, this is an indication that the law might be giving a s**t soon.

Also: amen. I'm right with you. I'm tired of being told to "get over" being called f**, honky, and the multitude of other words for people like me.

I certainly hope so. It's disgusting that it took this long for the press to actually refer to a murder of a trans person as an actual ******** murder, instead of a "trans killing" or "trans slaying".

Excuse me, media, but we're people too. The murder laws do in fact apply to us.

She backed off from the original claims. I'm still pretty ******** hurt but at least she's not trying to enforce this flawed viewpoint anymore.
