Kasen looked at her with a slight intent focus before he said ,"Well, the first step to gaining reiatsu is form a sphere of reaitsu the size of a baseball is about right. Anything larger than so might be too much." Kasen said making a circle with his hands that was just two half circular shapes with his thumbs and index finger together into the shape and size needed.

"Well, if you can accomplish the first stage, then we would move on the second step." Kasen said as his energy was slightly higher, but a feeling of slight tenseness as he had taught only a few people already. "Now, try to gather reaitsu into your hands, and gather the spiritual particles around us into the ball."

"Elementary enough," Aislinn murmured mostly to herself as she opened her hand in front of her. They'd taught all trainees basic reiatsu manipulation at the academy, so this was no great challenge. She had decent control. Nothing to rival a fully-fledged shinigami, to be sure, but enough control, at least, to tap into the reservoirs of reiatsu within and draw out the required energy.

It flowed from her core in a thin, controlled thread, just as her instructors had taught her. The resulting reiatsu coalesced in a glowing, silvery-blue orb slightly larger than the intended size, and hovering about an inch from her palm. As per instruction, she felt for the reishi particles in the air, pulling them into the orb in her hand. She looked to Kasen for affirmation that she'd done this step correctly. She wasn't exactly familiar with American games, but she did her best in terms of size.

"Alright, looks decent enough." Kasen said as he felt the pressure of the orb of reaitsu was good and not high nor low, meaning it was in harmony with Aislinn which would help in the next step. "The next step is to shape that sphere into your zanpakuto, which has no definite shape as every zanpakuto's form and blade are different, but they always remain in the shape of a sword. First form the fundamental shape, the hilt and you will then go to step three afterwords." Kasen said as he made sure she didn't have a large amount of reaitsu gushing out of her so the formation of the zanpakuto couldn't harm her. "Just let your mind flow and form the hilt." He said as the blade's form reflected on the person themselves.

Kazemaru walked down a path with his face buried in a map of the soul society. He was still new here and didn't quite know his way around. "Let's see here, if this correct then that means...." He said his voice trailing off as he looked up and looked at his surroundings. "Completely and hopelessly lost." He said and let out a loud sigh. He walked until he came out into a clearing. He spotted a girl, and a man dressed in rather dark clothing. He looked back at his map trying to figure out where he was. Oh that's where i am! The training grounds! he thought to himself glad that he had finally found out where he was. He looked back at the two people as he tucked the map back under his hidden body armor for safe keeping. He walked over to them stopping about 10 feet away so he could watch and see what they were doing. Looks like shes gather reaitsu, is she getting her zanpakuto? He thought remembering the day that he got his. He placed both his hand on the tops of his swords remembering the day. Slowly a smile spread across his face as he watched them. He had no where to be, why not watch them for a little bit? It would sure be interesting to watch another person gain their zanpakuto.

Form the reiatsu into the shape of a sword? But there were so many different weapons that fell under the category of swords. Aislinn's head whirled with the various possibilities, detracting her focus to the point where her reiatsu wavered and she had to gather her focus to bring it out of flux.

Swords... The first image that came to mind was an epee. That wouldn't--couldn't-- work. The fencing weapon was flexible and padded. The guard, while practically formed in a heavy bell to ward off blows to the hand and wrist, wasn't what she would want in a weapon. Her mind immediately flickered to an old-fashioned rapier. It was from rapiers and dueling that epee was derived. Although a rapier was a quick blade, it couldn't do much damage unless it delivered a straight thrust. That, too, wouldn't serve her needs.

So what would? Aislinn knew she couldn't handle a katana half so well as most trainees. She was forever improvising and combining epee form with standard kendo. Ash blinked. Perhaps that mixture was the key. Intrigued by this concept, she tried to imagine herself and her identity as a fusion of Eastern and Western culture. She had originated from Ireland, but her afterlife was a distinctly Oriental setting.

Hilt first.
She imagined the hilt of a katana and that of a rapier. The result was a slightly thinner, slightly straighter katana handle. She didn't concern herself with color. That would come naturally, she supposed, as a reflection of her soul's identity. Holding the shape of the hilt in her mind while maintaining the balance of her reiatsu was a bit of a chore.

"What's next, then?" She asked betraying none of the strain as she smiled slightly. "Don't think she'll hold forever,"

The sword's hilt shocked him a bit as usually the zanpakuto's hilt was of a katana as they never changed shape until shikai, but he remained a calm look as he gave her the third and final instruction. "To complete your zanpakuto, you must extend the reiatsu and form a blade of special steel made from the reiatsu. As you form the blade, you will be completing your zanpakuto and finished the last personal touch, but remember it must be like a katana's blade." Kasen said as the rules of most zanpakuto were based on three designs of swords were either katana, wakizashi, or nodachi.

Kasen crossed his arms and walked a few feet towards the person and looked at him, it seemed he was lost or had no sense of direction, but was smiling at the sight of their training. "Enjoying the lesson?" Kasen asked the person as he kept his arms crossed and gave a look of slight curiousity.

Kazemaru watched from a distance as the girls hilt formed into a odd shape. Well that's unique He thought to himself as he looked at the oddly shaped hilt. He continued to silently watch him instruct her on what to do. He didn't want to speak or make any noise so he didn't distract them from it. Kazemaru turned his attention away from the girl when he heard the man speak. He was a bit surprised that he would turn his attention from the girl, but he was sure that he knew what he was doing."Oh, yeah" He said and chuckled lightly bringing his gaze back to the girl. "It's interesting to watch someone else gain theirs. I got mine not that long ago" He said and tapped the two swords at both sides of his waist.

(Oh no! Am I doing it wrong? O_o)

"Got it," Aislinn voiced her understanding, though her tone was tight with the effort required to maintain the exercise.

Blade next. Like the hilt, it oughta be a fusion of katana and rapier. That makes most sense. There's the katana's strength but with the rapier's flexibility that allows for agile movement. Aislinn's face brightened despite the tension in her posture. The blade formed slowly and deliberately. It was of standard length, bu its thickness and curvature was off for a normal katana. The blade was slightly thinner and sported only the barest curve to suggest Japanese origins.

As the blade and hilt manifested into the complete zanpakuto, details became apparent. The blade itself was mirror-bright, silvery metal. The resilient steel was chased with designs of stylized Celtic wolves while the guard took on the form of an intricate Celtic knot. The handle was wrapped with a light, rose-colored material and all the metal fastenings and pommel were of the same silvery-white metal. A small chain hung from the base of the pommel to which was attached a small glass bead containing a lampwork mushroom in pale silver tones. The sword, in turn, became sheathed in a black lacquered sheath with metal fittings and silver inlays of rampant wolves that mirrored the design on her blade.

Instinctively, Aislinn gripped the weapon just below the guard. It felt perfectly weighted for her body and she couldn't resist a grin.

"How's that, then?" She wanted to know, clearly pleased with herself. She noticed they had gathered something of an audience, and she turned a rather charming smile in the onlooker's direction. Still, she couldn't stop admiring her new weapon. It was perfect for her in its every aspect.

Kasen looked at him a bit interested as he had something that usually shocked him, two zanpakutos. The lucky few who had the power of duality of blades made him jealous while happy for people who could achieve such blades. His attention was drawn back to Aislinn as she had completed her blade and had now finished her zanpakuto. "Very good." He said clapping a bit and then said ,"To finish, must test your blade and see its physical capabilities." Kasen said as he shifted his hood-robe to reveal his blade at his side, but there was another blade that wasn't his zanpakuto. "You may test it on me, and don't worry, I won't try to kill you."

"Yes," Aislinn laughed, a bit flushed with the success of gaining her zanpakuto. It looked perfect, felt perfect. She wanted to try it out. She was only mildly apprehensive at the use of live blades rather than bokken or shinai, but Kasen was obviously an experienced shinigami, and she doubted, despite any inherent clumsiness, that she would actually harm him. The same could be expected from his end, except it would be skill rather than clumsiness that prevented him from harming her.

"'T'd be bad form to kill all the trainees on the first day, hey?" Ash's eyes sparked seriously despite her quips. This was a match. Kasen was her opponent. Her world was narrowed to this duel and her "win at any cost" attitude was in full swing.

She secured her blade at her side with the sheath's ornately knotted koshirae and drew the blade. Perhaps it was her imagination, but the blade seemed to sing as it was unsheathed. She swung it slowly and deliberately to get a feel for its weight and flexibility. It had the best aspects of an epee or a rapier with none of its spindly fragility. She settled back into her natural fencing stance, muscles relaxed and loose, sword tip pointed downward. To the unpracticed eye, it might seem as though she wasn't prepared for an attack, but the subtle bend to her knees suggested otherwise. Her every sense was bent on Kasen's movements and the tip of her blade rotated in minute circles, belying her anticipation.

"Shiny," She said. "Let's be at it, then,"

Kasen unsheathed a sheathed sword from his waist which was different and a seal on it which was a symbol of another that he had gladly gained the blade from. This wasn't his zanpakuto, but a normal katana that had no special affinity in it other than its strange metal creating the blade. The guard had the shape of a paw as he unsheathed it and had a purple thread around the hilt which was one of his usual hilt covers. "Now, lets begin." Kasen said a serious voice as he pushed off his robing to reveal his uniform and his zanpakuto, but he simply left it at his waist as he held his blade in his right hand and his sheath in his left hand.

Kasen struck first as he bended his knees and ran forward at Aislann and when reaching her, he struck at her left arm with the blade and at the same time, swung his left sheath at her right side to create a double strike that would hurt her in either way. "To face an opponent, you must use all capable motions of the body and strike in the range of your limits." Kasen said as his swings were coming closer to Aislinn's body parts.

Aislinn's blade flashed upwards as she parried the sword strike aimed at left arm. In the same movement, she stepped back with her left foot, extending it outward in a sort of reverse lunge. Although she kept her blade raised and locked with Kasen's, her body dropped low, completely evading the blow from the sheath intended to strike her right side.

Thus positioned, she disengaged her blade from his and extended her arm in a thrust upwards, aiming for the center of Kasen's abdomen. If she had been fencing, she would have recovered her stance to avoid a quick touch to her exposed back or head, but with his larger, slower katana, she felt as though such retaliation would be easy to avoid with another quick movement.

Kasen's sheath absorbed the light and never reflected it as he brought the sheath up in a swift guard that struck the blade as he jumped back in a flash to make a small clash with his sheath being pushed back a bit. The rapier and katana hybrid was an unusual sword as he had never encountered such a weapon, even people with shikai. Kasen unlocked their weapons from combat and swung his zanpakuto blade at Aislinn's left shoulder which would strike the bicep area and he wasn't using much force so a slash wouldn't pierce the tissue in the area. Kasen then placed his sheath into his left side of the waist and pointed his left hand down with only his index finger waiting for the slash to be completed.

Aislinn withdrew and recovered, leaning her shoulder back to avoid the slash Kasen had directed at her. She retreated a step, wary of the reach of his blade, before leaping forward, bringing herself within striking distance. As her back foot touched down, she extended her leg, moving into a low, clean lung. The point of her blade was directed towards his solar plexus.

Her movement had brought her within dangerous proximity of his sheath. Although his blade was above her, he might deal her a blunt blow with the stout, lacquered wood. For this reason, she brought her left hand forward, arm tensed to block a strike from the side.

Kasen had to react quickly or lose the network of nerves in his abdomen, so he brought his sword down with the flat side of the blade being strucked with the blade of Aislinn, but there was something that would shock her. Kasen didn't want to do this, but she must gain enough combat training and understanding of each person. He pointed his left index finger at Aislinn's foot and released a burst of lightning. "Hado #4, Byakurai - Pale Lightning." He said as the lightning was released towards her tendon as he simply jumped back as the lightning continued to stream out of his finger.

As Kasen jumped back while releasing the kido, he brought up his legs in a kicking strike to hit her in the chest area, mostly at the area of her lungs which would become a fatal strike if not countered properly.
