Kohaku was still sitting in front of it. Still staring into the door like it was a TV screen. Her eyes looked unfocused and dead as they did on the outside.

The chains of the door had been broken.. And pieces of lock were scattered about along with a few rusty nails and pieces of wood. A few voices could be heard every once in awhile, though what they were saying was a mystery for it all sounded like jumbled up nonsense. Most of them sounded upset, though. Everything seemed so dark and dismal.. Like all hope had been lost. But inside the door looked to be the darkest place of all.

Al seemed to fall for an eternity before finally hitting the floor, and even then it was weird because he could have been certain his back was facing the floor so he would have landed on his arse but instead his feet hit solid ground and he tumbled ahead in surprise.

Kohaku was just ahead and his feet kept treading on fragments of nails, chain, wood, lock and all a manner of other things making loud noises in the eerily silent yet noisy place. the place whispered and each voice was full of diffrent emotions, all those of the darker nature but each to jumbled to make any sense.
it reminded him of a waterfall at night buzzing with the activity of the creatures which it hid beneath its waters.

he was now only a few feet away from kohaku and as he approached the door the depths seem to get darker yet strangly inviting, was it trying to drive him to this verge of insanity? was he to cheerful for this world and it wished to claim another victim?
he kneeled down, shaking her shoulder gently.
"kohaku?"

his voice was soft yet not as soft as it had before in the graveyeard when he had kissed her. it was full of emotion but not the same emotion as then either, mixed of both worry and a wish to get out of the place.

Kohaku didn't budge at all. Her eyes didn't move, and her gaze didn't change from it's position. "It's... Too much..." She mumbled quietly. "Everything.... It's too much... All the pain I locked away in here... It multiplied... I.." She started. "I can't move... " Her voice was soft, yet it carried a small echo with it. "It's so cold.. I feel... Alone.. Just like I did that night.. I remember everything now.. How it wouldn't stop storming... How loud the thunder was... "

As if calling upon it, a blinding light seemed to shine out of the door and engulf both of them into the corridors of her darkest memories.

Kohaku's mummblings seemed random and distant, enhanced only by the sheer darkness and a pressing.
whatever she was rambling howerver did see to fit alltogether into the one memory,a jigsaw puzzle with words and most of the pieces missing, for Al anyway.

He put his arm around Kohaku, only to draw away as the ight from the dark memory eerupted around them, his hand covering his squinting eyes which he soon closed entirly from the luminecense and because he didn't particularly want to go blind.

((When I read this I was reminded so much of the KH1 finale end scene after defeating Ansem. mwahaha! now I truly know, without a doubt that kingdom hearts er, Kohaku's heart ....is LIGHT!
couldn't resist!))

As quickly as the blinding light came, it also disappeared. The scene was now back at the mansion. A much younger version of Kohaku was sitting against the side of the mansion, staring out into the big woods. "Why'd you go, big brother? Why'd you leave us all?" She asked, hoping that her brother would somehow hear her. "Mother won't stop crying.. And there's somethin' wrong with Artemis and Fang... They don't wanna go outside anymore.. I'm the only one who still comes outside to play.." She mumbled quietly, slowly standing up and walking closer to the woods. "You were my bestest friend! Why'd you yell at me and just leave?? You don't call me 'little Kohaku' like everyone else does!" She shouted, then seemed to wait for a reply from the woods. After a few seconds, she got tired of waiting. Storm clouds seemed to hang overhead, waiting for the right moment to burst out. "I'm gonna find you, big brother! And I'm gonna bring you back! I don't care if you hit me or call me stupid! I want my big brother back!" She shouted and started to walk into the darkness of the woods.

The other Kohaku was standing there next to Al. Watching the whole thing. She sighed, watching herself run into the woods with such confidence and without fear. As soon as she was out of sight, the rain started to pour from the sky.. And lightning lit up the darkening sky.

Al's arms lowered as the scene cleared and became focused, like the begginning or end of a movie.
it was obvious at once that they had indeed entered a memory of kohaku's past. Younger kohaku was a dead give away, not to mention how they had just been in the cemetery and it was impossible for even him to get anywhere so fast. Even if he could it wouldn't have been light that poured around anyway but the usual gate of shadows.

He watched the younger kohaku full of confidence and hope talk of her brother and eventually leave for the woods.b It was a sad sight, knowing that this was probabbly the even that would lead to her loss of voice.
It was even harder to imagine what it would have been like for kohaku, knowing how it all went step by step and unable to stop anything unfolding. The only thing he could think to make it worse was if kohaku having to relive it entirly. seeing things through the eyes of the younger her and feeling the same emotions. all the while still knowing that it was impossible for this day to go right.

The scene then changed to later that night. The rain was still pouring, and the thunder and lightning was louder than ever. They were in the woods now. The little version of Kohaku was curled up next to a tree, shivering and looking around. "B-big brother? Are you there?? I'm lost... I can't find the way home... And it's so cold..." She said and gasped as a bolt of lightning struck a tree not too far off, the sound of thunder echoing fiercely through the woods. Then there was the sound of running behind some of the trees not too far off. ".. Big brother?" The little Kohaku asked, scared out of her wits. Her voice was met with growling which got closer and closer as seconds passed. Kohaku stared at the direction the sound was coming from, wide-eyed and scared to death. A figure slipped out from behind the trees. It looked to be a wolf, but a strange one. It's eyes were red as blood and it's fur was black as the night, though it's teeth where brightly white. Kohaku slowly stood up and then, without a seconds thought, started to run away as quickly as possible. The wolf quickly made chase and was right behind her in little time. Kohaku then noticed a hole in one of the trees just big enough for her to get into. She made a jump for it and quickly crawled in, but not before the wolf clawed at one of her legs. She screamed in pain and pulled her leg back in, watching the wolf stick it's head in the hole and try to get her. "Big brother!! Help!! It hurts, big brother!!" She cried out, pulling herself as far away from the wolf as possible. A few hours into that, the wolf finally gives up and walks off. Kohaku stared at the blood, still flowing out of her leg. "Why won't the red stuff stop? She mumbled, tired and getting dizzy from blood loss. "My leg won't move... And it hurts so bad... Mother.. Fang.. Artemis... Somebody!" She cried out. "I feel alone..." She whispered.

Al was surprised by the sudden change of time, his eyes adjusting quickly to the now diminishing light.
The woods were very much the way he remembered them to be,although you couldn't tell it there as probabbly lots of diffrences. trees would be smaller and small animals wuld yet to be born.
That made him wonder if the entrance to their house would still be crawling with the red eyed cats, though it wasn't the time to check.

kohaku's cries were pitifull, crying out in the cold and dark, alone and defenseless. Then that wolf came, surprisingly it's black fur reminded him of Artemis and it's glowing red eyes of the demon that was still not in this place, was he still waiting in the cemetery?
He heard a voice call out,it was hollow and reassuring. He relised it was his own voice calling out as if to help, although it would do no good. this was a past memory and nothing anyone did here could alter it,or at least it would take powerfull magic of some kind.

His words echoed around him in the small chamber they had followed kohaku down and into. Though he was unsure either would hear his words.
'you're not alone!'
repeated slowly and sadlythen faded away, being silenced by kohaku once again.

The scene once again changed into morning, though the weather stayed the same. It was still storming.. The rain had settled a little, but the lightning and thunder was still going strong. The little Kohaku woke up from her horrible sleep, leg still pulsing with pain. Her eyes had taken on a sad and lighter blue. "... Big.. Brother.." She mumbled quietly and tried to crawl out of the tree. She still couldn't move her leg.. And she was covered in the blood from it. She got out from the hole and continued crawling slowly. "Why.. Didn't you save me this time?" She asked, looking up at the stormy sky. She then stopped and tried to stand up, just falling to the ground again as she got close. "Poor little Kohaku.." Came a voice from behind one of the trees. It was him.. Only, he was apart of the flashback as well. Kohaku looked over at him as he walked closer to her. "Mister!! Please... You gotta help me.. I can't move my leg and my brothers lost in here somewhere..." She mumbled, a faint light of hope now striking her. The man stopped as he got within a few inches of her and grinned. "Why?" He asked softly. "Why should I help you? What exactly would I get in return?" He asked, his voice sounded cruel and uncaring. Kohaku blinked and stared up at him. "Huh? But... I don't have anything, Mister...." She said, a frown taking over her face. "Oh, but of course you do! You just don't know it..." Kohaku stared at him for a minute and looked at herself. She was in so much pain.. And she supposed that if he'd take that away, she wouldn't care what he took. "You can have anything you want... I just want to forget all this and go home..." He said, holding back her tears for the fear that her brother might see. The man grinned again. "Alright, m'dear. I'll help you... But be warned! You're going to loose something very precious to you in order to lock all these bad memories away, okay?" He said, his voice filled with fake emotion. Kohaku nodded. "I don't care.." She whispered. "I don't want to think about big brother anymore... I don't want to feel lonely again... And I don't want to feel this pain.." The man shrugged and kept grinning. "Suit yourself. No more pain for Kohaku, then. I'll get rid of all these bad memories and lock them up.. But you're also going to loose that beautiful little voice of yours.. You have been warned..." He whispered as she passed out from exaustion. The scene faded, and they were once again in front of the door.

"And he did what he said... He locked up all the memories of that night.. And the nights leading up to it, behind this door... But.. He lied when he said 'no more pain'. After that, I was able to walk back to the house without a problem. And I didn't leave the house for the longest time afterwards... Just like Artemis and Fang didn't. Then I started having nightmares every night.. About painful things... And I could feel the pain.. It was him doing it.. I'm sure." She said quietly. "Though.. I hid it from everyone else... I didn't want them to worry.. They had their own problems to worry about as it was... So, I usually hid behind a smile.. Never really paying attention to what I wanted to do but what everyone else wanted to do... It doesn't sound fun.. But what can you do when you're a mute who's afraid to speak up for yourself? So, years passed and even though Fang and Artemis had started exploring outside, I didn't. Mother saw that and sent me away to one of those expensive private schools, hoping that I'd at least make a few friends there. I pretended to like it.. Even though I hated it. The only time people talked to me was to laugh at me. One of the teachers snitched and told mother that I really did hate it there and so I was sent back... And everything had changed. Fang and Artemis were so outgoing compared to me.. And I felt the lonliness again.." She said softly, a small red tear falling out of one of her eyes.

Al stepped closer to her, wiping the small red tear away from her face. So that was what happened, all her passivness and shy nature was a result of this one incident. it could have been some chain reaction with this being the final reaction but it had happened either way and would.
"But you're not alone now. I told you that I would stay here, be your one selfish act and let you keep. I gave my word so even if i do leave, ever. I'll have to comeback. It was an oath and unless chained and bound to a brick wall I'll fullfill it."

Kohaku looked up at him, her eyes seemed to gain a small amount of life back. "But you said that you were going to leave... And never come back... And you were running away.. I thought I was never going to see you again... It scared me so much."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 04, 2006 11:19 pm

Al sighed,it was slightly sorrowfull sounding and a small hint of remorse played.
"If that dd happen and I still felt the same way I could still leave and use the wide loophole in that promise i made. specifications of how often I would come was very vague, not even touched. as long as i came every 10 years or so it would be regarded as keeping my word. Afterall what is ten years of life when one has over 200 already under their belt?
Although that could easily be rearranged after all this. But there was the problem if he truly wished to spend a lifetime in the underground.
It was enough to just say it but what about obsicles that could get in the way,not to mention his own mixed up path now begginning to cross over into kohaku's somehow.
He sighed once again.
"do you get to keep your voice now? his pact with you was to seal away your memories, now that it's unsealed what happens?"

Kohaku frowned at his answer. 10 years didn't seem like a long time to him.. But it didn't sound very appealing to her. She looked away from him. "I suppose.. But, things might be harder for me now.. Especially going home and.. Telling everyone..." She mumbled and imagined Fang and Artemis's reactions... And her mothers.

Al shook his head. Why would it be harder? couldn't she now have a vice to express herself completely? the pen may be better than the sword but did the person who wrote that have a voice?
the only thing he could think of that might be hard would be trying to be able to accept this memory, that had to be something better than locking it and her voice away right?
He sighed.
"That man in your memory, the one that took away your voice. He's in the cemetery. I don't know if he's still there but he said it was to messy in here to stay. If you do wake up what do you think will happen?"

Kohaku sighed softly. "I don't know..." Which, she really didn't. His actions were always hard to predict. She looked around her mind. It was a mess. Everything was so dark. And the voices still whispered nonsense. She put a hand on her head and continued looking around. "What am I going to do?" She asked herself quietly.
