Hmm this sounds promising...
I was reading some reviews of this place, and supposedly they aren't Tex-Mexy...not that I hate Tex-Mex...but it might be fun to check out:

Here's one of the reviews...
Absolutely Awesome!! written by anonymous Last visited this restaurant on June 25, 2005
Driving from Lubbock to Tulsa, my husband and I happened into this place. Wonderful meal...WONDERFUL!! We made it a point to return there on our trip back home. The atmosphere is delightful, the food is beyond compare, the service is the best. I have already recommended El Tejavan to many. We will definitely eat there again, and again. I wish they would expand and open a restaurant here in Lubbock. We have friends who pass through Amarillo often on business, and I intend to ask them to "bring me home some of that wonderful food." I teach Spanish, and have spent time in Mexico, not just border, but central Mexico. Their food is so authentic. If in Amarillo, I highly recommend El Tejavan. You will NOT regret it!!

"Down the road" being a twenty-something mile stretch of the 101!
Oh... whoa. Hey, last fall... you were here then, yeah? You were driving right through the burn area, weren't you?

You mean when we had the really bad fires? Oh yeah. Part of my college campus got burned, and we had ash falling like snow.

The I-40... my boyfriend's got family in Sedona, I think that's just off the 40. I should remember to ask him if he's got suggestions...

Psychominako Wow Jiggy, you're just full of information! I'm just inclined to dig around. pirate See, I'm the kind who'd be looking for weird little holes in the walls to eat at and sights to see. Apparently there's a Meteor Crater just off I-40, too, exit 233, in Arizona.

I kept telling her (and myself) that there were still a few miles of multi-million dollar homes between the fires and where I was. xd

Joe was down in SD at the time and they were in such desperate need of firefighters that he was actually on stand-by! I was really scared for my boss at the time because the fire went across the freeway and she had no way to leave her house...yeah, definatly not going to miss those days.
