its no doubt that anyone could mistake aerith as their mother
I mean because she has I guess you could say that type of vibe
she's sweet warm and nurturing
and Cloud calling her mother is more of showing that Cloud sees that side of Aerith
the side of her that can take care of Cloud, since really Cloud really is just a kid and as aerith, says a big one : DI think Cloud loves Aeris as a mother which is why when he went into the life stream and felt her presents that was instinctively the first thing he said. ok so if cloud loves aerith as a mother then he loves tifa like a sister : D Maybe rofl Now he's got a mother (Aeris) a sister (Tifa) and I guess Zack can be his father or brother. Ahahahahahahahahah rofl Who knows maybe Cloud doesn’t love any of them maybe he just liked them both a lot as friends. I just think he loved Tifa and they were suppose be the cannon couple but really either way you put it, it will never be proven unless Nojima makes a public statement or something, which will probably never happen.

aerith replied by just laughing and joking around
because if she knew that Cloud was serious and that he loved her like a mother
then she wouldn't have joked around she would've mostly like said something like 'oh I see' and just smilied
I say this because once in FF7 if you reply that tifa is your girlfriend
she just replies sweetly and says 'oh'Aeris might have taken it as a joke but I didn't see Cloud laughing. Cloud went into the life stream, felt Aeris's presents, and called her mother. Cloud looked pretty serous to me not to mention that he wasn't exactly in the position to be joking around. Also I think Aeris calling him a big kid makes it clear that she has excepted the fact that Cloud could never be with her and so has let go of her romantic love and now watches over him like a mother figure. It also seems this way at the end of "The Madden Who Travels the Plaint." But all in all Aeris's joking can be taken either way but not Clouds remark.

He really just spouted mother out of instinct since the touch felt so normal to him. He didnt realise it was Aeris until she actually spoke in response. Clouds remark wasnt said because it was Aeris, it was said because that was the first thing that came to his mind when he felt her presence and touch.

its not Aerith, herself that reminds Cloud of his mother
its her presense, because of her nurturing personality
so he isnt saying that he loves her like a mother
its more of how she is, thats the first thing that he thought of

i think he was torn between his attraction to aerith and tifa.....he fell in love with aerith....but he had a lifelong loving crush on tifa....then again....it never goes that far into clouds feelings....hard to tell....though as far as i can tell he mostly finds yuffie annoying

Ah, the legendary debate- who did Cloud love more?
And as usual, the vote is split between Aerith and Tifa.
Note that this debate will go on forever, and ever, and ever. We may or may not find out who wins, but I'll give you one thing. The debate in this thread seems to tip the scales towards Aerith, albiet slghtly.
Similar threads in similar forums have stated the same- some a bit heavier than others. But once again, we may never know for sure. That said, I state that my vote goes neither way. It's anyone's guess here, as far as I can tell.
