Hemlocke set off with the young girl on their way into the Gloomwood at the beginning of another adventure. Hemlocke was unsure of what to expect in combat with bears. She knew that they were much fiercer opponents than spiders, but that was sort of vague when you didn't have anything to compare it to. She had learned to not pick fights that she couldn't handle, but she had faith that between them, Anna-Mia, Glimmer and herself could handle a bear. Hell, if Anna-Mia was taking them on her own, then Hemlocke really had nothing to fear. The shyft's presence was overkill. That's the best way to do things in the daylight: figure out how much firepower you'll need to do what needs to be done, and then double that.

The girl's question was not entirely out of left field. "Well, yeah. I've heard a little about it today in fact. Apparently some sort of super-powerful boar that was found in these woods. It was strong enough that there was really no way to defeat it. Somehow, two guys took it down on their own. It was something to see, that's for sure. The boar was unlike anything anyone's ever seen here. There's no telling where it came from or why, but more impressive are the two guys who fought it. No one can measure up to that sort of power. It's hard to imagine how they haven't made it out of these woods yet. If they haven't done it..." Hemlocke had to stop herself from thinking too hard about it. "It was unbelievable. In fact, I can show you -- a picture at least."

Flipping open her journal, Hemlocke accessed the posted image and turned the book to show Anna-Mia. "Nobody seems to know who they are, but there is very little doubt that they are the strongest fighters in the Gloomwood right now. There's been a pretty hard push from a lot of people after seeing that it's possible to become stronger, but I don't think those two have to worry too much about anyone catching up with them just yet."

    Anna-Mia's eyes widened when she saw the glorious shining beast in the frame. She had never seen something like it back home, at least not in Boar form. She had come across all manner of legendary beasts, but this was something she had never even heard word of. Surely this world had some impressive beasts, yet she found herself shedding a small tear. If this image combined with what Rota told her were to be believed, it would mean that this being of light was not only dead, but killed by her family. While she understood that her brother had no choice, it still hurt a small bit inside that such a unique being was dead. She wiped her eyes, and cleared her throat. "The man in black with crimson eyes and scarlet pupils is my Big Brother Rota. Since that's him, the other guy has to be his friend Alyx."

    She smiled faintly as she plucked Glimmer from the ground. "I told you my brother was strong. Now everyone else can see that." Anna-Mia was a little surprised how much she had adapted to whatever allowed her to see that panoramic image, but she supposed a life of being raised by dragons would prepare one for just about anything. It was far from the weirdest thing she had ever seen."And now his sword is even stronger. For other people's sake, I hope they don't try and pick a fight with him."

    Hemlocke's eyebrows rose. "That's your big brother? That's crazy! He's got to be the strongest fighter in the Gloomwood! It's no wonder that they can afford a house and all of the things they have. That creature could breathe in my general direction and kill me. Hell, I'm half worried that the picture of it is going to do me in. That's insane. To think that that's an actual person. I was ready to believe that it was a hoax." Hemlocke was in the middle of fangirling when the air around them grew still and she realized that something wasn't right. She looked up from her journal in time to see two small eyes watching the girls. Attached to them was a gigantic, diseased bear. She noticed that next. "Oh. Hello there. I don't suppose you're here for conversation, are you? Benefit of the doubt: Hi, I'm Hemlocke." She almost offered her hand before the grisly bear roared. The shyft grew serious, her eyes narrowing as she stretched a beam of light between her hands to prepare for an attack. "I guess not."

    Anna-Mia smile at hearing her friend freak out about her big brother. She was sure that Rota would have loved to hear that sort of thing himself. "Well, I am sure that I could arrange a meeting! I think he would love to meet his second biggest fan!" Her smile turned bittersweet as she saw the mountain of patchy fur. She loved all animals in every form, but this was fairly sad to see. Her only solace was that her taming them would free them of this life of constant agony. She set down Glimmer and allowed her to move infront of herself."We've practiced this, little Glimmer. Now it's time to put it to work. Keep us all safe, you got that?" Glimmer gave a steadfast nod of acknowledgment, and Anna-Mia let a piece of bait fly towards her target.

    Hemlocke had time to breathe, and she used it to begin charging her Lucent Sapphire and Little Blue. If she focused on getting those up to battery, then she'd be able to start helping Anna-Mia out on taming this monster. She was relatively surprised with the ease that Glimmer repelled the bear's attack, but she was not going to question it. She knew all too well how hard that little s**t could hit, so she had no doubt that it could stand toe to toe with something even so many times larger than she was. The bear and the bunny were probably evenly matched, if the rabbit didn't actually have an edge. It was, after all, a radiant gloomrabbit. It had seen the other side, and had had the strength to tell that other side to eat a d**k. It had gone against the laws of nature and won. If nothing else, Glimmer probably had the bear beat in fighting spirit. All Hemlocke and Anna-Mia had to do, then, was take care of the enemy, since Glimmer's paws were metaphorically tied, not being able to do any damage to the bear while the girls worked to subdue it.

    Anna-Mia had managed to hit her target despite fumbling severely with the bait she had thrown. She still hit, so she supposed she shouldn't be too picky. She just wasn't used to these new clothes for combat just yet. it didn't matter in the long run. She planted her feet this time, determined to nail this bear with a solid throw. The bear had been knocked aside by Glimmer pretty handily, but it was clear to Anna-Mia that her faithful bunny was also warming up a bit. that wasn't something that would last though. They were both ready to give this bear everything that they had. this was only one bear of many to come. Anna-Mia curled her fingers around the bait and dropped her forearm as she twisted slightly to her left side. The bait flew off at a loping arc, now all it needed to do was make its mark as the bear bore down on Glimmer once more.

    Hemlocke watched as the rabbit repelled a second attack, and was pretty glad that the bear had kept its attention focused primarily on Glimmer this whole time. It had allowed her to gather enough energy to finally be of some use. Raising her right hand to point her open palm at the bear, she began reading from the journal in her left. As she read, a shining blue design began creating itself in the air before her, a small blue light tracing the path of a circle and a host of geometric symbols and shapes to fill it, leaving a brilliant blue path behind it until the spell was complete, when the magic circle flashed before blasting a wave of blue light at the bear, taking the form of an azure wash of light that would bathe the creature, rather than the projectile that Hemlocke usually struck with.

    Now that she had seen the Curve Ball hit from Glimmer knocking the Bear into it, she un-planted as she saw the bear do something she had never seen before. The Bear's eyes glowed red and stared at her with murderous intent. She kept herself nimble as she nodded to Glimmer to activate her Clash of Horns. She needed to keep up the pace of her taming, but also make sure that she didn't regret her decisions to walk this path of life that she was on. Doing that meant dodging and using all of the tools at her disposal. Glimmer looked stern and determined as she put herself inbetween the Bear and her master. This was a familiar scenario thanks to their practice session, but nonetheless important.

    The bear roared to life as it struck out to strike down Anna-Mia, for the first time acknowledging that perhaps there were more than two in this fight. Lashing out with frightening intensity, the bear bore down on the little girl and was prevented from ripping Anna-Mia apart by the quick action of her now golden-horned bunny, who charged in to stay the advance of the avalanche of fetid flesh that was a gloombear. As the bear rushed against the iron-walled defense of Anna-Mia's pet, it was held up long enough to be bathed in the massive burst of light that was Hemlocke's spell, fired from the Lucent Sapphire. The light intensified until it obscured the creature, and as it grew, the bear was washed away until nothing remained save motes of blue light and the three members of their party. Hemlocke cheered a little inside that she'd actually been of use this time.

    "Well, that wasn't so hard. Looks like we've got this handled." Hemlocke clapped her journal shut and stepped forward through the slowly fading remains of her magic circle, still inscribed in the air. As she walked through it, the lines flowed around her, dispersing like a thick, parting fog. "It seems like this might not take long. How did we make out?"

    The shyft's ears perked up. Something was coming. She turned to face the sound and sprang back instinctively, her only mostly corporeal form allowing her to float almost imperceptibly longer than perhaps she ought to have before her feet touched solid earth and she prepared her magic standby: a single wispy stream of light, flowing from one hand to the other across her front, like a bowstring made of aether. Another bear had come out of the metaphorical woodwork, and seemed none too happy with the intrusion into its stomping grounds. Hemlocke, after allowing herself to get some room, decided to trust in Glimmer's ability to do her job, and the witch focused instead on charging the Lucent Sapphire once more, readying it for the next opening that she would have.

    Fully charged and ready to go, Hemlocke decided to reserve the Sapphire for the next fight, preparing to instead take the standard blue stone that she'd produced out for a test drive. This would be its maiden voyage, and it would be telling of just how Little Blue could complement its older sibling. Deciding to take a less formal approach to this casting, Hemlocke drew the power out of the stone with her will, the energy traveling out of her journal as a wispy fog and spiraling around her arm, across her shoulders, and then down her opposite arm, splitting into countless tiny rivulets of mist before spilling around and over her outstretched fingers to pool in her palm. She pushed the hand forward and blasted the orb of magic at the bear, to assist Anna-Mia's efforts in taming the beast as Glimmer struggled to hold its attention away from the girl.

    Anna-Mia watched the bear go down and take the bait into itself. The Beastmistress was doing her level best to stay spry, and that was helping her immensely. Glimmer was also doing a fantastic job at being a focused defensive front. She knew she could count on her bunny pal. However, the Bear had other plans. Anna-Mia was being focused on something fierce, and if the Bear's attitude was any indication, then Glimmer would need some hlep. She nodded to Glimmer, and glimmer's entire body tensed as golden light flowed through channels in her fur, coalescing on top of her head into her hard light antlers. Glimmer stood with a defiant look in her eye as Anna-Mia readied antother piece of bait and tossed it with passion at her quarry, the candied chunk flying like a dart.

    Hemlocke's attack struck home, the blue mist flowing around and further disorienting the bear, who shook its head and huffed as if staving off sleep. She felt that they didn't have much further to go on this particular creature. She elected to use her time to charge her own weapons, deciding to focus this time on the little-used red stones that adorned her talisman. It's not like they were just there for decoration. She could use them to great effect, especially if they needed to play for real. Which, given the nature of the Gloomwood was a possibility at any time. She lamented, somewhat, that she had little offensive power compared to the vast reserves of friendship that she was capable of generating. She was more carebear than magical annihilator at this point, but it was the way to play at the moment, and it was a side-effect of hanging out with Anna-Mia. You just had so much taming going on that you were going to get blue motes of light. It was just facts.

    Hemlocke closed her eyes and placed her hand over the talisman that was set into the cover of her journal, her hair beginning to flutter as the air around her tinted red, the crimson stones beneath her fingers starting to shimmer.
