Kozo
Hooray for Vampire Hunter D! Although the english acting in the first was absolutely atrocious...

I disagree for the Naruto bit.

Two things:

1) All of Vampire Hunter D is atrocious. 'Nuff said

2) Naruto writers have admitted to being in a 50 episode filler arc. I.e. Lots of mindless non-plot related ninja battling. My roommate torrents the latest subbed episode out of Japan every week when it comes out, and even the subber knows they're on a filler arc. If that doesn't reek of DBZ, nothing does. Also, the Naruto "storyline" that is "advancing" is in fact just a series of challenges that watch Naruto get more powerful and fight more ridiculous enemies (wait...I've heard of this show before....it had something to do with "power levels" and various types of gay clowns as universe destroying villains....what was it called again?)

Onto other subjects!

Princess Mononoke is not Miyazaki's best film. Not by a longshot. Howl's Moving Castle and Porco Rosso are both considerably better, and a lot less "LETS HIT YOU IN THE FACE WITH SOME MORALS! BAM!". Also, Howl's Moving Castle gets major bonus points for having Billy Crystal on the english voice cast, playing the oh-so perfect Calcifer. He is fantastic in that role. It's actually worth enduring the rest of the english voice cast just for him.

On the topic of Ultraviolet: The movie is not canon. s**t, it isn't even Fanon. Just go buy the Ultraviolet DVDs for 30 bucks (remember, the TV series not the movie >.>) and have yourself a considerably better time. We shall never speak of this atrocity ever again, agreed?

Gundams: I'm not surprised it took off in America, everyone loves giant robots with lasers in SPAAAAAACE (or not, as is the case with most Gundam series). Although the particular spinoff responsible for Gundams popularity in America (Gundam Wing) amuses me. Gundam Wing is a thinly veiled homo-erotic emo orgy....IN SPAAAAAAAAACE. Like, I really can't think of a better descriptor. Heero cries about everything, Duo cries about Heero, Trowaa cries about himself, Wufeii cries about not being the best, and Quatre cries about not being able to have some kinda of machinated sex with his Gundam. It's all very disturbing and very VERY gay, and for some reason, America loves it.

Sidenote about Heavy Gear: That game was fun if only because you could earn ranks with ridiculous names, like Sous-Caporal. Hehehehehehehe Sous-Caporal.

Finally: I think that man is violently attacking that ukelele...

I saw that guy live before, I think... I got free tickets to the show because I work in the playhouse.

Well, it's not my day job, but I perform there a lot. I've made/won a few hundred dollars from it so far, at least, plus the tickets I get are a bonus.

I like My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. As much as I couldn't stand the "INDUSTRY BAD NATURE GOOD" of Princess Mononoke, it was still an excellent film. Of course saying "Miyazaki makes good films" is like saying any of a number of obvious things about the color of the sky.

I particularly like "The Big O" just because the characters in it are hilariously awesome. Sure, it's a massive ripoff of Batman with giant robots thrown in for good measure, but seeing the butler say "Let me handle this, ma'am" while producing a machine gun is priceless. I've seen plenty of the gundam series though and G Gundam made me cry. "THESE FINGERS OF MINE HOLD AN AWESOME POWER!!!" Gimme a break. Add to that the American Gundam had boxing glove hands and a cowboy hat and now I'd rather watch SciFi Pictures Originals.

Gundam Wing was a conspiracy to popularize the emo trend and metrosexuality. I'm convinced. People think InuYasha was designed for this, but I disagree. InuYasha was just Rumiko Takahashi wanting to score some cash by taking a million episodes to write a story that could be fully and adequately covered by a movie or three. The fapping of the bishounen craze evident in this particular series is just the show itself riding on the trend of "pretty girly boys are hot" which, by the way, is wrong. Besides, Kagome is supposed to be an asian girl in middle school with THOSE hooters? No. Wrong.

Macross was great. Then the primary weapon the humans had was music and culture. I lost interest at about this point. At least the giant humanoid robots were more sensible in this series since they were fighting giant humanoids and based this stuff off technology gained from a crashed spaceship built by them.

One of my current favorites is "Ah/Oh! My Goddess!" simply because the things that happen in that show are so domestic and trivial compared to most television focusing on epic events of world-changing nature. The Ah/Oh thing has been a spot of controversy amongst fans, since the original title is "Ah" while it makes more sense in English as "Oh." The creator, after being informed of the colloquial common usage of English "Oh my God" said that "Oh" made more sense but ultimately decided to keep it as "Ah" for naming/merchandising consistency. Anyway, it's a great show, like Tenchi Muyo! with less constant sexual tension and less slapstick, but still a harem comedy.

And: I absolutely hate Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's not horribly bad like the fillerfests that so many other anime can be, but there's just so much emo crap in there. Still, strip that stuff out and the series is pretty great. My favorite scenes all involve berserk/dummyplug'd EVA-01 doing horrifying things, but ironically I'm pretty confident that those scenes wouldn't be there or work anywhere near as well, if at all, if not for all the emo crap to contrast it and/or as a result of it. Also, they kill off two of the three characters worth a damn in that show, leaving only PenPen behind until Instrumentality in the movie, which I consider to be a product of annoyance with the fans and a form of "payback" resulting in their purchasing a movie that provided an unsatisfying and bad ending wherein most of humanity gets melted into tang. I actually liked the ending a lot because Shinji realizes that nobody hates him, everyone's just as ******** up as he is, and then stops being so emo.

Well, I've had a very mediocre day, to say the least.

I'm not going into detail.

Anyways, I'm going to start sending out activity PMs. I've posted in about every roleplay we have going and there've yet to be replies posted. It's been awhile, too.

C'mon people. Get active.

I have an idea for an RP. It will be up by tuesday.

I'll have some guidelines in place designed to try and keep it alive.

Cool. I was thinking about putting up another one of my own, but all of them die within two or three posts. stare

Yeah, well... there's something seriously ticking me off about this place (to the point that I've considered leaving, even though ilu crying ), and I need to have a serious talk about it with you first, Val.

And it's not the inactiveness, so much as its causes.

Sigh.

Anyway, I do have the RP written, but I'm not sure I want to put it up here rather than Barton Town (as I can refer people from there to the guild, but there is a slight problem with that).

I guess I could, but I generally use credit only for online stuff and balance transfers. neutral

Hahah. Bartering.

"What? Ten dollars for a movie ticket? ... well, let's see if we can work something else out. I have this goat..."

Bartering is inferior to a medium of currency or other tender. The lack of a general medium of exchange inherent in a barter system combined with the resulting need for a coincidence of wants for any trade or transaction to take place leads to fewer trades resulting in fewer people acquiring things of greater utility to them in exchange for losing other things of lesser utility to themselves, creating a generally lower quality and standard of life, as well as forcing people to generalize their talents and abilities as opposed to specializing, which has been empirically proven time and again to be far more efficient for all involved parties.

Anyway, to our resident Canadian(s), how was your Civic Holiday?

Also: I submitted my character app for the hair color RP! PARTY HARD! With luck, I'll have my RP up by tuesday. If not, it's because friends wanted to do something with me (some are leaving this week to go to school) and that means i'll probably be busy until thursday, when it will be going up for reals.

Ah ha! Anoter layer of clothing to add to my "THERE IS NOT A WHITE PERSON UNDERNEATH ALL THIS SOMEWHAT STEALTHY BLACK CLOTHING" motif! I'd feel bad that the entire outfit is ridiculously monochromic, but I'm a ninja and I don't have feelings.
