Just done a test run of The Lord Grand Master Vs An'ggrath, and he won 2-1.
Against The Great Unclean Lord Scabeiathrax he lost 2-0
Against Uraka the Warfiend he won 2-0
Against Mamon he won 2-0.

These combats were done without the Daemonbane ability, but I don't know if Gargantum creatures can be instant killed by a Force Weapon.
If it does, then The Grand Master would have easily won.

I'm very dissapointed with the look of them as well. I had very high hopes of finaly finishing my Iquistion army and not having to give up an arm and a leg on all the metal models I would need. I think I may just stick to the old range after seeing these.

Well I suppose you could buy a £20 of GKs, then make a squad, by a Space Marine 5 squad and convert them.

10 GKs for around 25-30 quid.

warding staves work only in melee which means we just need follow the fireworks code: handle at arms length!
stormbolters working as pistols arent mentioned anywhere, so basic GK are 1 attacks each only
which leads me to believe Crowe and his purifier army will be popular
as well as Draigowing of paladins - for bonus WAAC points, make every single paladin carry other weapon to allocate wounds ork bikernobz style

5 man example:
justicar - sword
halberd
hammer
falchions
psycanon

10 man example
justicar
banner
apothecary
warding stave
psilencer
sword
halberd
hammer
falchions
psycanon

amount of damage that can be soaked by the latter squad is so ridiculous that I am amazed... 120 wounds without ap2 or s8 before single model going down! that is 6 turns of 60 fire warriors shooting, or 36 autocanons of IG firing for 4 turns - by comparison 4 ordinary tacticals would be annihilated by the same amount of firepower...
bring out meltas, lascanons, demolisher canons, railguns, lances,we will need them!

ad1 Keldorn!!!!

O.o who? surprised

ad2 apothecary on 2 wound squad is sick

O.o yeah, there´s no uniqness in DW´s anymore... sad
<.< Then again, they do have storm shields and with a apo it´s.....

Indestructible!!

ad4 I'd love to make some of these into Tau army but I dont know how... Grey Knights are almost exact opposite of Tau with melee focus...
Every single GK model has power weapon while there are none in Tau dex save Farsight himself...

Use Broadsite´s kit to make it Tau-ish with multible Railcannons?
That´s be pretty awesome to see. biggrin

The Storm Bolters look s**t.
Much preferred the belt fed one, these just look silly. How are they meant to replace their rounds with a weapon in their other hand? Make it float in the air while they replace magazines?

<.< How did I miss that? D:
I agree, it is shame they left the belt-fed off from there models. sad
I wonder why they did that, they gave space wolfs AC´s a belt-fed.... :/

Oh well, there´s nothing alittle conversion can´t fix. :3

Heh, whatever they used on the Dark Eldar was all used up, the Grey Knights are just plain s**t.

The helmets look off for some reason, probably due to the lower part jutting upwards more and the suits of power armour lacking armoured collars as with the metals.

The wrist-mounted storm bolters have horrible jutting magazines that really unbalance the flow of the model and break up good poses. Why couldn't they just use belt-fed or terminator styled mags?

The Dread Knight is an okay idea, but the exposed pilot and large pistons jutting from the shoulders are ruining the model quite a bit.

GW...balanced. ^^

That's funny.

You're funny.

:: pat pat :: It's okay. Someday you'll learn how to read and maybe then you'll think waaaaay back and you'll realize there were more than two words in my post. ^^

Back on topic, I had sporadic thoughts of starting a GK army before tonight. However, after seeing the new models, I'm gonna have to say no way in hell.

The models just look... wrong. I don't know how or why, but they look wrong.

I guess some compromises had to be made when turning these into plastics. Not liking them though, they feel a bit bland for some reason. And I've got to agree on the power armoured suits wrist-mounted storm bolters, a bad design choice!

Though seeing as we had Jes Goodwin work on the Stormraven.. gonk

There is also an awkward feeling that the old power armour metals with the halberds are more or less phased out now. crying

hmmm do they have old or new and improved stormshields? but paladins have 2 wounds!

yep, a linked railgun on both arms would be badass, but it doesnt fit into codex , so it would have to be a custom home rule model...

just given these another look over now that not im in quite such a cynical mood. my thoughts...

1. the old Grey Knights in Power Armour looked pretty shite too, so im not too suprised.

2. The terminators however, look sick! might buy a couple boxes of them sometime

3. definatly getting a Mech-thing, but only to convert it to an Mechanicum sweatdrop

4. weird backpacks = more shite

5. noticed something missing which really ruins the whole grey knight visual aesthetic. halbeirds. none of those models have them, and its the halbierds that gave the power armoured models the bulkier look on the old ones i think. hopefully we will get them in the box anyway

6. looking at them, i think they need some replacement parts to look more impressive, so IF i do actually still make a GK army now (which i probs wont, but might get a few boxes for custom models and conversion purposes if im bored) ill also pick up Black Templar conversion kits to add to the knightly feel, and also go via bitz sites to get as many Space Marine captain =I= shoulder pads as i can (hell, i might just get loads of Captain boxes for parts... i still love that box for converting)

7. i made an =I= bodyguard a while back with cadian parts, blood angels wrist-bolters, GS, and a catachan machete (for the blade of his halbeird), i might make an Army of them! (just for show) and use some of the slightly better GK parts on them...

::EDIT::
after a quick dive through my Photobucket account, i found photos of my Inq Guard

Plastic Grey Knights?
I'll be in the vincinity of a retailer next week, i think i'll take a closer look at them there, and possibly even buy some Troops and/or Terminators.

But there has happened some things since i were away, i mean:
"Grey Knight Librarian"?
Since when did they get those?
...... I remember Grey Knights a psycic powerhouses, they should not "need" any kind of librarian .....

As for the wierd backpack "antennaes" ....
I like the miniatures, but i agree that it doesn't fit the Grey Knights; i think it would have fitted a military arm of Ordo Xenos, though.
..... (As i have been away quite a while, i have no idea if any official Ordo Xenos has been done by now.... sweatdrop )
PostPosted: Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:53 am

well, the "antennas" are actually the teleport thingys. which makes sense, since former gk models had no visible teleporters, even though SM have the little teleport homer peice in their terminators.

as far as Librarians, i dont see why it doesnt make sense... not all GK can shoot lightning out of their hands, they are all psykers, but i dont see why that has to mean they are all equal to librarians (besides which, i would imagine the GK libby being more powerful than the SM equivelent anyway)

As far as i know, they were originally seen as using their psycic powers, or the psycic power of a hero or similar, to teleport into battle, not teleport devices ......

And yes, originally it was defined that all GK could shoot lightning out of their hands .....

But, then i am also referring to a time long past, when one still could remember a boxed supplement called "Genestealer"(made for the original Space Hulk game), and at that time, there were no GK in Power Armor, only Terminators, and all were equal .. no, better, than an average Librarian, partially because they had Nemesis Force Weapons, and a Librarian only a Force Weapon.

Ok, things change, i'm well aware of that, but now, the Grey Knights looks far too much like "another Space Marine Chapter, just more powerful" .....
And i think of "Chapter organization" rather than physical looks .... except for those antennas, where the physical looks, and, as i see it, their background as psykers are also compromized.
