Miangel

That happened to me last year, where I "lost" it and couldn't find it anywhere. It really sucks just having to sit there and listen... which is why it's good to play two instruments. XD That way, this year, when it was in the shop, I could play my sax so I didn't feel completely useless.

you know, that reminds me. I'm still playing flute in jazz band. The BD never gave me a tenor D=

Thursday was a very special day. All of the spring sports had games, and, incidentallly, most of the band is in sports, so we had a total of 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 3 clarinets, 2 alto saxes, 2 tenor saxes, 2 percussionists, 2 french horns, 1 trombone, and a tuba. We also had a sub 'cause May was judging bands in Seattle. I gotta be 2nd chair for a day! Seems that 1st is always nice to the person next to her. It was somewhat creepy, but fun!

In a few minutes I'm off to a variety show to help the band go to Disneyland. We're playing Aladdin (a very cheesy version I might add). It's going to be a miracle if we sound good.

My friend and her band just went off to Disney! Good luck! =D

Gah, spring break is over x___x ((for me, at least))

we got new music today in concert and jazz band. for some reason we got a concert piece in jazz band, and since flutes aren't even supposed to be in jazz band, there were only 3 of us, so the BD was constantly saying 'I NEED MORE FLUTES, MORE FLUTES, PLAY LOUDER!' so I play so loud on the crescendo that i squeeked in Kris' ear xDDD on top of that, the other flutist is a sophmore and she can barely play the flute. The other girl that played I couldn't hear at all, and half the time I was the only one playing. Haha, I like being the only one to play xDDD

Our band had UIL today and we got first division!!! Well, there were three judges for sight reading and three for the performance, and ALL of them gave us a 1 except one of the performance judges...stupid judge...anyway, it was still cool. The sight reading piece was SO EASY! We got pizza before going to UIL (we ate it in out formal uniforms too! No spills though, thankfully) and someone won a pink stuffed mouse out of one of those claw machines. We passed the mouse around the bus on the way to UIL, then ripped it to pieces on the way back and threw the stuffing everywhere. I kept the little red bow that was on it, one of the euphoniums has all the limbs, and the oboe has the head. I don't know who kept the poor thing's body. Band is so much fun...

Does anyone know what a "Stable Y Arm Key Construction" is? I've seen it noted quite a bit, but I have no clue as to what it is, exactly. sweatdrop

ya' got me. x___x

Well, thanks anyway. sweatdrop

I should probably introduce myself though, neh? Since I am new to the guild and all.. Anyway...

I'm a flautist and have been for.. not that long. I'm only a little more than half-way through my second year. I'm in grade 8, and "advanced" (meaning "any instrument that isn't a recorder") instruments are only taught in school starting grade 7.

Our band is small (I'm one of the four flautists), with only around 14 people, I think.. Umm.. I was in an even smaller band last year, with only 9 or so people, but that was in a different school -though, for being small, we were pretty damn good.

With the way our system works, I don't think we do "chairs" until high school, so I have no clue where I would be (my BD just randomly hands out the sheets, and whatever you get, you get).

I've recently decided to name my flute Moldy -the name says it all.. damn school instruments- but I'm getting a new one really soon. Band tour is coming up -yay!- so we get to go to Kelowna (in B.C.).

Not much else to say.. sweatdrop

And I thought I started playing late. They started teaching us in 6th. We didn't have chairs til 8th grade, but seeing as how you're alreayd in 8th, I'm guessing you're right. You don't have chairs til High School.

That is a small band. In 8th grade we had lots of people. Flutes alone there were about 15 of us.

Well, hope you get a new flute soon. xD I hate school instruments. x___x ((for Marching/Pep Band I have to use a picc from the school... trying to get my own, but, yeah...))

I had auditions (which was really a chair test) for symphony on thursday, and I sucked. The sight reading peace looked like a grade 4 and I think I ended up playing it in the wrong key. sweatdrop My scale died, but my selected piece was all right (if not a little too easy). I did learn that I'm a lot better at theory than I thought. I was one of the three people who could answer the theory questions. It made me happy. The audition was just scary though. The room was tiny and then these two started writing as soon as I began playing. It's really nerve-racking. Otherwise, things are going pretty good.

For me we had a big room. We did our auditions in the choir room, and all 3 BD were all the way at the top of the risers sitting opposite of you and you were all the way at the bottom with a stand, chair, and your music. They were all looking down at you when you first entered the room... then Ms. Hoffman said 'Hello Sarah!' and it kinda shattered the whole atmosphere... xDDD it was weird, I felt the need to burst out laughing during the entire audition. xDD
