If the baby isn't moving / kicking as often as is normal that could be a sign of fetal distress. I'd assume that's why you're being asked to keep a chart.

Also, I've been leaking colostrum since my fifth month of pregnancy. I've still got two weeks to go till my due date so it definitely doesn't mean anything in regards to how close to labor you are.

Fetal distress. confused That phrase kinda worries me. Hrmm. Well, even though he has slowed down, he is getting at least 10 bigger movements a day. I've got to chart day 2 a little later on today, though, and see how it goes. I forgot to do the after evening meal count, though. >_<

I wasn't too worried about the leaking colostrum thing as much as I was confused. ^_^ I'm just the kind of person that has to know EVERYTHING about things, and this pregnancy is by far no exception! blaugh

Well it's very common for movements to slow down as you get closer to your due date. There's just not as much room for him to move around any more! I'm sure it's not a problem, the doctor just wants to make sure. :]

I had colostrum with Liam since I was 20 weeks along, so not indicitive of labor starting, unfortunately. You aren't technically lactating either. That will not occur till after labor. Colostrum is just the "pre-milk" which is different from the mature breastmilk.

Quote:
The first milk secreted at the time of parturition, differing from the milk secreted later by containing more lactalbumin and lactoprotein, and also being rich in antibodies that confer passive immunity to the newborn. Also called foremilk.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/colostrum

Quote:
During the latter part of pregnancy, the woman's breasts enter into the Lactogenesis I stage, where the breasts are making colostrum, a thick, sometimes yellowish fluid, but high levels of progesterone inhibit most milk secretion and keep the volume “turned down”. It is considered medically normal for a pregnant woman to leak colostrum before her baby's birth, and also normal not to leak at all. Neither situation is an indicator of future milk production levels in the mother

As for the movement count, I heard that was in hours, not a day. When in doubt, call the L&D line.

Quote:
Your baby should move ten times in four hours. If this does not happen call your practitioner for advice on what to do next.

http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/pregnancytests/a/aa061697.htm

Quote:
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that you time how long it takes you to feel 10 kicks, flutters, swishes or rolls. Ideally, you want to feel at least 10 movements within 2 hours. Most likely you’ll feel 10 movements in much less time.

http://www.americanpregnancy.org/duringpregnancy/kickcounts.htm

That last one is according to the ACOG, which most doctors follow. As for why:

Quote:
Being attentive to your baby’s movements will help you notice any significant changes. Setting aside time every day when you know your baby is active to count kicks, swishes, rolls, and jabs may help identify potential problems and could help prevent still birth. Though strongly recommended for high risk pregnancies, counting fetal movements beginning at 28 weeks may be beneficial for all pregnancies

I did them faithfully my first pregnancy, decided not to do the chart the second.

Thanks so much for all the info. yet again! You guys always tend to clear things up for me when I'm clueless! ^_^ heart

My Baby Shower is today, yay! Too bad it's 4:30 am, and it's at 2 pm. I've got a long wait ahead of me today. Maybe I'll clean to to pass time. I even went to bed early last night, so that I knew I could get plenty of rest before the Shower, and I wake up at 3 am, ready to go and start my day! xp I'm just glad that I apparently get enough sleep, even though it's at very odd intervals.

My wee-one has everything he needs, though, so I'm really curious as to what I'm going to be getting as gifts. Mostly clothes, I'm sure, but everyone says you can never have too many! Mom says she's got 6 games planned, with 8 prizes, she bought a helium kit for balloons, had a cake made-she's probably beside herself right now with excitement. Oh, and she also said, "You better not go into labor at the Shower! It took too much to plan all this out!" twisted

I just looked at my little ticker on my sig...18 days left until my due date... heart It's really strange, because every day, it feels like I'm getting just a little closer ot having my first baby in my arms. And not just mentally; it's like I can actually feel it getting closer! I'm so excited about having a baby-I'm not all that nervous, because I know I'm well-prepared, and I have two wonderful families to help out whenever I need it. Not to mention, my husband is just as thrilled as I am and he talks a lot about being so excited to have the baby in his life to love and raise.

*Sigh* I feel kinda like crying, actually, which is a little weird for me. When i had my very fist contraction, I almost cried, because the thought of, "This could finally be it!" crossed through my head.

I have an appointment at 2 pm today, and what's going on, I have no clue. The doctor might be checking to see if I've dilated any. I had some questions to ask him, but once again, I've forgotten them! >_< That always happens, though. Maybe I'll remember some of them as the day progresses.

Anywho, I just felt I had to get some of my pent-up excitement outta my system so that I can think a little more clearly. OH! I've got a fun question for everyone, too! Did you ever have really vivid dreams of your baby; what he/she looked like, sounded like, etc., and once they were born, were they the baby you always saw in your dreams or different? I always see my baby with a full head of brown hair and thick eyelashes like his daddy. I've even had such vivid dreams that I could feel his grip on my fingers and stuff, and could feel how soft his skin was. ^_^

I had that problem too, try writing a list, then when you go into the doc's you have it there and ready, and won't forget one. ^_^

Has anyone else had issues with hiccups?

How do you mean, you having hiccups or the baby? I could tell when Cas was about to start kicking and hitting like crazy, because he would get the hiccups and they would make him upset... he still gets upset when he gets them, crying until they go away.

You might want to look into reflux. It's a normal occurance for some women during pregnancy (due to the increased pressure pushing things up). I would get hiccups and burp a lot and Zantac REALLY helped.

I spent almost five hours in the ER last night due to being sick; I went in because I was running a fever and didn't keep anything down for two days..not even a popsicle X.o It was very scary...I told them I was pregant and that got me in pretty quick...

all that scare and all I had was a ear infection...they did all kinds of blood work and urine tests...

the only good part was that I got to listen to my baby's heart beat..which was awesome! The nurse said it was 160 beats a min. and my hormone levels were great for being ten weeks...they did give me a new prescription for pn vitamins...

I hate being sick..even more that Im pregant...you can't take crap..well they gave me amoxilcilian..I hope I start feeling better..my ear hurts sweatdrop

Lately, I've been having this tightening feeling in my throat. And for like, the first tiem in my life, I woke up and was sweating! I don't sweat; I just get sticky, but it was drippy sweat!

The feeling in my throat is so hard to explain and it gets so irritating. I've got an appointment on Tuesday and I've been keeping tabs of whenever it happens so that I'm able to tell the doctor. It kinda feels like it's in my tonsels where it tightens and it also kinda feels like someone pushing down on the sides of my throat just under my jaw. confused It's not harder to breathe or anything, and it only happens when I'm laying down. I've also noticed that sometimes, my belly tightens up a bit when it happens, and even sometimes, it's in my entire torso. I've been kind of thinking it's been due to my high BP, because I've never had HBP before, and I've never experienced this tightening feeling before, either.

Doc says that the HBP could be due mostly to the baby sitting on some nerve or some vein or something-I couldn't pry through all the "doctor words" he was using to get any answer to satisfy me, so Tuesday, I'm gonna ask one of the nurses; they're so much better at explaining stuff to me than that guy.

Oh, has anyone else here ever been told that checking for dilation at 37 weeks isn't a "necessary procedure"? At my last appointment, I was pretty sure I was going to get checked to see if I've dilated at all, and when I asked my doctor, he told me he didn't like to do it until it was closer to my due date because he could risk rupturing membranes, and risk getting an infection. I completely understood his point and am fine not knowing how far I'm dilated; it kept me from having to have some guy with HUGE hands stick them up my v****a! But, both of my families have said they've never heard of that before; they've always been checked at about the time I'm at now. So, I was just wondering if your doctors checked as soon as they could, or if they felt like they needed a good reason to? 3nodding
