Zelda thought privately that she might be able to fight Hyn, but wasn't about to bring up the fact that she'd likely had more weapon's training than both of them put together. This wasn't her show.

She had never been especially fond of the role fate had cast her in. Who wanted to be the mystical guru/damsel in distress? As soon as she'd discovered, at the age of six, what was likely to be in her future, she'd taken steps to make sure she wouldn't be put in the same position as Zelda the First. Archery lessons had been easy enough, and teaching herself offensive as well as defensive magic in the library had been challenging but rewarding. Getting someone to take her seriously enough to give sword lessons had been beyond frustrating, but--

But that train of thought lead to a place that wasn't healthy at the moment. She blinked and yanked herself forcibly back to the present. "Well," she began, moving toward the fireplace, "It's likely to be a puzzle...." She pursed her lips in thought. "We might have to have weight in both chairs at once; there could be something under the rug. Of course it could be as simple as lighting a fire or opening all the drapes."

"Well, I don't know about you, but I am a little tired. I vote for the chairs,' Link responded. And with that, he walked over to the chair and flopped down sideways, his knees bending over one of the arms, "Know, which one of ya'll is goin' to join me."

Gustave let out a mutter. "Lemme guess, me, right?"

((Sorry, I've been busy with... other endavours. Tak and Ele know what they are.))

"Actually, I was thinkin' of someone who weighs more then four ounces," Link replied sarcastically to his friend.

Moria shrugged, sitting in the other chair carefully. Absolutely nothing happened. "No, that's not it..." Moria muttered. "What sort of exits do we know there are? The windows!" she suddenly cried, shooting over to one of them, pulling aside the black drape and letting the outside light pour in. Unfortunately, it led to a sheer drop. So did the others they checked.

"Well, you want to look under the rug?" she asked Link finally.

Link nodded from his comfortable position then grudgingly came to his feet. After walking a few mere steps forward, Link fell to his knees. His silver gauntlets quickly slid beneath the rug, the violently pulled upwards.

Under the rug, a simple message was painted in red. It read, "The test of a man is frequently trial by fire." That was all. Moria approached it, tilting her head to the side as though to try to read it differently.

"No, this is the only angle it makes any sense from..." she muttered, stepping over the words. Then the words suddenly sank. The wood dropped like a button; Moria, with a little shout, jumped backwards, drawing her sword. But nothing appeared; all that happened was a fire lit in the fireplace.

A green fire.

Zelda nodded absently. "A combination of both, then." She cocked her head slightly, looking at the fire for several long beats, then turned to Link. "I think it means you, and.... Trial by fire....?" She trailed off, subsiding into thought.

'Trial by Fire, what could that possibly mean?' Link thought. Staring into the green flame, 'Am I supposed to enter it?' Cautiously the boy approached. HE could feel the heat and smell the soot raising off of it, that meant it was real, didn't it? And real fire would burn. But if this was truly a test of bravery, that in itself would be a lie, after all one did not need to be a man, to be brave in order to enter a flame that was obviously fake.

To many thoughts were flowing through the boy's head, he needed to find an answer. With a deep breath, Link cleared his mind and decided to act on his first instinct. Without and hesitation, the boy reached his hand into the flame.

(Hope that's what you had in mind)

((So you fellas know, I'm gonna be gone 'till Friday. Sorry - I didn't really know till recently. Goin' camping. I won't be able to post, and I've been infrequent enough already... sorry.))

The fire was hot... but it didn't burn. It didn't consume. The problem was, it didn't open any miraculous passage, either. In fact, behind the flame there was nothing but the brick wall of the chimney. Whatever was going to happen didn't happen simply by touching the fire. So what was it?

"Well..." Moria muttered softly. "We can't go by the windows. We can't go by the door. There's no magical passage. So how in the name of Din can we move on?"

Zelda shook her head. "The fact that it didn't burn him means that that fire is here for a definite purpose. We just have to figure out what it is." She shot a half-amused, half-exasperated look at Link. "That was very reckless, by the way."
