silverstorm13 I felt that most of the stuff in teh last book just sprung up out of nowhere, they never mentioned anything with the hallows before not even a tiny little hint, And i don't get the elder wand thing well either, Deathly Hallows just made more questions and never answered those from the last book, The epilogue SUCKED, and i was waiting for a confrontation between Snape and Harry, and why did Fred have to die? gonk I don't understand how Harry somehow got reborned and what happened to little teddy? Before reading Alutian's post.. I'll tell ya I agree. I think Snape and Harry should have met before Snape's death too. I hated the Epilogie, most people did. I don't know compared to Books 1-5, Book 6-7 (the ones I waited for) were disappointing... Book 6 more than Book 7 though

More of my opinions and insights:
My major problem with the epilogue was because it answered nothing.
Sure life's going on for that big love bunch... Already knew JK was thinking marriage for them before the series ended...so that really didn't need to be put in the epilogue. I was looking for more with everybody else. George, the Weasleys, the Magical Community! They weren't even mentioned. Who cares about what's happening 19 years later... I want to know what was happening a few months or maybe a few years from the battle. How about everybody sitting at the Weasley table? Talking about improvements and stuff to get the stability back? That seemed like more of an epilogue to me than what was actually given.

I don't think anything ever lives up to my expectations. Unless something comes as aa big shock like in the 23rd chapter Fudge came in and used a killing curse on everyone then I'd be too shocked to be disappointed

Okay, good things...
Kreacher's role was a shock, wasn't it? I mean, here we have this filthy little thing that mutters cruel statements under its breath and actively hates everyone except members of Dark families in books five and six, and in Seven he becomes a good, clean little house elf loyal to Harry, Ron, and Hermione!
When we got the hint that Kreacher would be important in book (and therefore movie) seven, I was expecting some huge betrayal of some sort, not this. Who even would have thought I'd be cheering for the elf?

Kreacher was hiliarious!
Especially with the whole Mundungus scene. That was gold. Could you imagine an old elf (I picture Kreacher like he was in Book 5 the way the artist drew him) getting a pan and hitting a tall gangly drunk wiziard? I really hope that scene gets to be in Movie 7! If it is... I'll pay for the movie.
I just kinda mentioned Neville, didn't really give him his due. I was sooo proud of his character! To me it matured nicely. It wasn't like he was this big scaredy cat from Books 1-6 and all of a sudden he was leading a movement against Voldie! It sorta evolved! I was sooo proud of Neville!
Luna: Her usual crazy stuff, just nothing unusual... Her dad was loopy though, so I see where she gets it from.

And Aberforth Dumbledore...seemed a bitter old coot in some ways, but I quite liked his character. Standing up to the Death eaters like that...brilliant! "It's a goat, idiots!"
And then there was... "Potter! I've had about a thousand kids thundering through my pub!" (quote may not be exact)
Perhaps not hilarious, like the Kreacher scene, but I still loved those little lines.

What was everyone's take on the Malfoys?
I mean Lucius had been this big death eater during voldemort's first rise to power, so surely he had killed, you'd think. This time he seemed quite subdued.
I realize he was being "punished" for the diary and his blunder at the ministry, but when Harry was brought before him. Like Draco, he seemed like he was reluctant to identify him. More than just because he was swollen. I got the impression that Lucius and Draco both knew it was Harry but didn't want to admit it.
Then Narcissa not telling Voldemort that Harry was alive even after Harry had told her about Draco? Not to mention that during the battle at the school, they were more interested in finding Draco than helping to fight with Voldemort.
It just seemed as though their hearts weren't with Voldemort this time around.
Even Bellatrix seemed as though she realized that she had been disillusioned before and that she was less enthusiastic in Deathly Hallows than in Order of the Pheonix.
Do you think they began to see Voldemort's true self? Or, did their opinions change after he targeted Draco to be killed by Dumbledore?
In the epilogue, I got the impression that Draco and Harry had an uneasy truce in the end.

He had to be.... if the DE knew he was Dumbledore's brother, what would they have done?!?! It was incredibly smart of him to hide that fact. I wanted to hear more episodes of Potterwatch! That thing was hiliarious.. Chief Death Eater lol!

I think Draco was torn... He was taught all his life to be a muggle hater, that Voldie was the greatest guy alive, and then he witnesses that guy torture his parents and knows it's wrong, but he was taught otherwise.
I think somewhere on the line, his parents realized that it was crazy to have allegiance to that guy. Their love for Draco was much more deeper than anything else. Voldie is such an idiot. All his best followers left him for love! Bella's a beeyatch. She was all for sacrificing her only nephew. I do think she was more subdued, but I think that had more to do with Voldie just being overly pissed with her than anything. She was still in love with him. I wonder what her husband thought of that?
We should open up a character thread about the Malfoys, like I did for Ginny. I don't want to make 5 longs posts on just what i thought about the Malfoys here.
I wonder if the Dark Mark vanishes with Voldie truly dead.

Now that i think about it. Draco was only taught to hate muggles and Haryy so nobody really knew how Draco felt about Harry or muggles from his own thoughts not just his fathers thoughts. But he still must have plenty of evil in him to be the son of Lucuis. Do you think J.K Rowling is going to make any other books im dying to know

Oh bummer I entered this discussion so late.
I liked the book a lot. It was a bit random and confusing at times but I didn't mind it for the most part. I did HATE the epilogue though. Most of the reasons have been mentions by other already so I won't bother going over why to much. I just wish we could have heard about more characters.
I think what bothered me the most about the book was the way all the well loved characters died. Take Fred for example. He was a true hero and yet he died in the snap of a finger in a rather weak way in my opinion. Fred deserved to die more heroically. Same with Lupin and Tonks. I think the battle scenes could have been better. They should have had a scene like Mrs. Weasley. Maybe they even more than Molly since they are killed off. Blah am having a hard time explaining myself dang it. I don't know why.
I am not disappointed in how many died though really. That is what happens in war. You have to sacrifice so much for the greater good.
I realize that this book is about Harry Potter so she could only put so much in about the others. Still I can't help but feel after 7 books and how attached people got to so many of these characters they all deserved a little more. Whether it be a better fighting scene, a better death scene, both, or perhaps BEING MENTIONED IN THE EPILOGUE! lol
Sorry I don't think I explained myself well but give me a break it is 4 am in the monring. xp
