Sleep, he thought, comfortable, uninterrupted sleep. That would set his mind straight. Janus picked up his room key and stretched. That steak and potatoes were just the thing to break his fast. His stomach ached with the sudden introduction of food, but he ignored it. Things were looking a little better, and he supposed he had Jona to thank for it. After all, this paranoia was just him being irritable."REEEEEEEEEEEM." "Christ!" Janus yelped. The sound made him jump, and he whirled, fully expecting to see Meatman lurking in the shadows of one corner. When nothing but the little restaurant greeted him, he heaved a sigh of relief.
Janus really needed a good rest. With no further stalling, he sauntered off towards his room.((I'm considering the dream WP canon for reference/filler purposes.))

[Still one of my favorite writing entries EVER.]
Janus SLEEPS...
HP/MP restored!
Dawn breaks. Through the crystal glass window, streams of daylight trickle through like tiny gold cascades, riddling Janus' face with warmth and waking alarm.
Yes. Alarm. Why? Well...today was the judgement day. The long haul. A new quest. Who knew what the hunt would bring? Anything could happen. Janus had to be prepared for the worst, as always. Anything Jona granted would be pretty useful. A weapon, a set of bulletproof armor, bucket of chicken, anything would be better than nothing right now...
There was an old oaken chest at the end of his bed, as promised.

The merc slowly sat up, feeling the best he had in weeks. His bones didn't creak when he got up, there was no need to pop his back and neck as he sat up. Janus didn't even need to take a piss, that's how good it was. It was nice to have a good morning once in a while.
He was still a little groggy, though, so his solid resolve and purpose was distant then. For the slightest moment, he was confused as to why a chest magically appeared near his bed, then- oh, yeah, Jona's stuff. Right.
Feeling a bit like a child at Christmas, he opened the chest.
((Huh, 60 even. That works. I was hoping for anything over 50.))

Aw, hell yeah!
Jona certainly didn't skimp on the provisions. Looked like he now had a new weapon. It wasn't quite like other crossbows he'd seen- Janus supposed those instructions tucked nearby would explain it. He'd long put off getting ammo for his crossbow, and was glad to have plenty of regular stock to add to the few poisonous ones he had. There was a scope, too. It wasn't like he, the one and only Janus Gold, actually needed a scope... but it didn't hurt.
A ring? Plucking it from the chest, he looked it over. What good was a piece of jewelry going to do him? Well, if nothing else, he could hawk it in a tight spot. But should he? Maybe there was more to it then he could get at first glance. Pocketing the cash, he picked up the documents and read Jona's note, then the instructions subsequently.

Jona's note:
Alright, my boy. Congrats on getting this far and making all the right decisions so far. Charisma like yours will get you far in this world. Soon, you'll be just like me...rich, powerful...
But not yet. You must find this subject for me. His name, as we've discussed, is Azreal Lockheart, a convicted felon and highly dangerous serial killer. He now resides in the surrounding area near Amandilla, a larger town consisting of more slums than libraries and hospitals. Our sources haven't gotten back yet with any more details on his current actions and movements, but you'd best move fast. The town you seek is on the far left coast of your map. The dot should be there. You must, MUST move soon, friend. We've charged up your buggy, so no worries there.
I'd tell you more about what you're about to see when you arrive at Amandilla...but I'm sure your new captive will explain himself rather clearly.
Good Luck, Associate.

Magirath Instructions:
To use Magirath Crossbow, please load ammo, pull back chamber, and depress trigger button.
To use enchanting tubes, the arrow-shaped holes through the left stock of your bow, slide arrow tip through and insert the Espercite, ingredients, or otherwise through the cross-sectioned slot facing you.
Here's a description of your weapon:
Splitter
This beautifully crafted ivory crossbow has all the makings of a rogue’s tool, with compass, arrow enchanting tubes, and Espercite hold built right in. As you'll notice, the fine petrified wood shaft, stock, and loading bay are all of the finest quality. Be careful of the black Mistgry strings, however. Any non-Lonarian touch could set them to disintegrate!

Now this was a weapon befitting a merc such as he. It was a fine piece of work and could alter its ammo (he had no idea what Espercite was, but he got the feeling it was useful). Wary of the strings as instructed, Janus fitted the crossbow to his back for ease of retrieval. He nabbed the scope and tucked it away- he'd attach it later. As a last thought, he put his old oaken crossbow in the chest.
Janus stared for a while, looking at the weapon, well worn and humbled by his new toy. He didn't have a care for people, but some objects held sentimental value. When you travel alone, you start appreciating everything you've got.
"I'm gonna miss you," he said quietly, speaking as if addressing a brother, "We've been through a lot together."
Everything was accounted for, then. Well, almost everything.
"You forgot something," he muttered, returning his attention to the ring. He again turned it over and over on the tips of his right fingers, feeling no more impressed than before. He looked again to Jona's note. Nothing? Not bothering to clarify, Jona-ol'-buddy?
As he left the room and strode off for the lobby again, he looked at the back of the note, then tucked it away with the Splitter's instructions.
