On extra note, does anyone else besides me think that Jin has terrible Korean? Geeze. They keep him from speaking good English in the show, and they also force him to speak bad Korean. Not to mention the fact that the translations are horribly bad. So is the script in the Korean scenes. No one talks like that!
Because David Fury is an alumnus of the Joss Whedon School of Bad Dads?
Okay, that explains the first question.
But what about the bad Korean?
Well, Daniel Dae Kim is Korean, but more Korean-American, and I don't think he's ever really spoken Korean before Lost. I think he's doing it all phonetically.
And re: the scripted Korean... Well, I just don't know. You'd think they could at least ask Yun-jin Kim if it sounds natural, but I guess not. Or get a good translator, at least. I think what they do is write the scenes in English and then translate them word-for-word.
It's sad... seeing Korean end up like that.
Oh well, might as well be happy with the fact that people from my country appear in my favorite show!
