I wonder whether any Steampunk fused music would need to be more or less acoustical... the electric guitar seems a little odd in a steampunk setting... MAYBE I am wrong...

Well, the electric part of the electric guitar is somewhat plausible. After all, if you have magnets, you have electricity.

Touche. but there is a certain... spontaneous passion in Victorian era/Romantic music, which is difficult to emulate or imitate using a lot of technology. Plus, when piloting/operating a dirigible, I personally cant imagine plugging in the Marshall half-stack and rocking out old school. I don't know why, but I kinda envision a musical set up that can be transported from place to place with ease... than again there is the whole 'dance hall' phenomenon. Oh dear, I've talked myself into a corner...

color-me-wretched KumaBlind, you beat me to this topic, I was just going to make one similar! ^_^ Abney Park was what first got me interested in Steampunk. I heart them. It's too bad their music is so hard to find on CD. (of course it's that way it is with a lot of good indie music...) As for more Steampunkish bands/artists, I've got a few suggestions. Perhaps not pure-blooded Steampunk, but more modern music with very classical/anachronistic inflections. These links will take you to the artists' respective MyspaceMusic accounts. biggrin - Emilie Autumn ("Victoriandustrial") - Dr. Steel("Hip-hop industrial opera") - Rasputina("Mystically cellorific") I love weird music. heart None of those would be considered steampunk... Emilie Autumn is amazing though.

Taluria Has anyone not heard "Airship Pirates* By Abney Park yet? Instant love, my dears. *laughs* Instant love indeed..... xd The most played thing on my playlist is currently is between that and their "I Am Stretched On Your Grave" song (*grins sheepishly* I love his voice in that song)... okay, and the Dr. Calgori song, too... and a few others.... *mutters good-naturedly about new music addictions* Interesting to see what type of music is considered steampunk, though... and for a change, I've actually listened to some of them before! xd (Let's see... ones mentioned in this thread: Apocalyptica, The Decemberists = heart , Flogging Molly,* Voltaire,* among a few others....) *goes through the list again to make a list of other artists to check out* xd *I'm still not too convinced how steampunk-ish these are, but... ah well! smile

I won't go fangirl. I refuse to! 'Tis like going drunk, I don't know what I'm saying and make a fool of myself! *struggles* *resigns to half-fangirl and agrees wholeheartedly with you about Captain Robert's voice, but goes quiet about anything else* xd And I love the "Brains" song too! Especially his evil laugh in it..... "The Headless Waltz" and "Come Sweet Death" are among my favourites, too, of his. xd

Skizzors Have any of you seen this, then? It was posted on Brass Goggles. I've fallen in love with the band, but none of their other songs have very steampunk videos.. And I can't judge by the lyrics because, you know. French. I realize it's quite old but I began to translate the song for you... then I found someone who already did! http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=W9QtJERu_2EAlso for the brief discussion on the title: it is definitely "shut up" as translated in that link. The verb "(se) taire" is "to be/keep quiet" but "tais toi" specifically is used just like "shut up" in English, though a bit less harsh sounding. In any case it never has to do with closing anything..except your mouth smile If you want another odd steampunk vid: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=G3xClKcJjA0 It's clips from The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello.. though the song appears to be in Spanish so I can't help much there. -- As for Abney Park? Nathaniel's pretty badass imho. biggrin

I don't really like Abney Park...the lyrics are great, but the music just doesn't sound steampunk. It'd be a lot better if they just punked out some period instruments, did some weird experiments.... Yeah, lame contribution. Sorry.
