Ballet RecitalShaking like a leaf, Chailyn stared at the stage. She felt like her stomach was in knots as she squeezed her hands tightly into fists. The fabric of her skirts swirled about her legs as she trembled. Her gown flattered her small body, the small pink floral design embellishing her child-like stature and innocence. She seemed perfect for it and had the audience known what she was dancing to it would've been easy to see she was perfect for the part as well.
The opening number of the recital was upbeat and would've had the tale smiling, if she wasn't scared to death. A million scenarios flashed through her mind of how things could and would go wrong. She hated being in a strange place, it made her nerves worse if that was possible. She was too afraid of getting lost to even think of running off. And what if she did run off? And her mother couldn't find her? And then she'd be lost and alone. She just couldn't win. No matter what she did there was a chance things were going to be bad. On one hand, she could hide (and never be found) or she could humiliate herself in front of a million people. Neither were appealing to the toddler.
Chailyn was so caught up in her thoughts she didn't at all notice her classmates flood around her. They would come on shortly after she started her solo and then she could melt into the masses. Then it wouldn't matter if she fell or tripped or knocked someone over because no one would be able to tell it was her. It was the part where she was alone that made her a nervous wreck. She'd been too nervous to eat, too nervous to say anything, even too nervous to dress herself right. How one exactly could dress wrong when they only had to put on tights and a dress was impossible to explain but Chailyn had managed it.
It seemed like hours had passed before it was time for the dreaded solo. Inhaling sharply Chailyn scuttled to her mark on the stage, wishing the curtains would never part. She closed her eyes kneeling on the floor and facing the curtains. She fashioned her skirt to rest around her. She took another breath refusing to look up as the curtained opened. Two spotlights focused on her before the music started.
The soft playing of music began as Chailyn raised her arms up lifting herself up. She twirled, a pirouette followed by a gentle motion as her hand reached out for a seemingly invisible suitor. She stepped back twice before twirling around, her hands held closely to her heart. She seemed to falter, swaying forward as a faux smile appeared on her lips. She faced the audience, a look of shock and then pain on her face as she stumbled back. She shook her head, as a man and woman danced onto the stage. Hanging back, she waited until the woman disappeared off stage. She turned as if to leave, before stopping and turning to see the man beckoning to her. She back stepped before rushing forward and leaping forward. She seemed to laugh as he took her head, spinning her around like a princess.
As she spun, he let go disappearing off stage and leaving her alone. She faltered as she stopped, falling to her knees and bowing down. Everytime she finished, she really felt like she wasn't that girl. As the curtains closed, the applause did little to ease the feeling. Instead it seemed to make it hurt more. She sighed before pasting on a smile and rushing off stage. She headed straight for her mother's arms, seeking refuge as her mother's praise and love washed over her.
Chailyn muched prefered the group number, Dancing Through Life. That, she was ready for. It was fun and made her feel happy, all the bad feelings dying because happiness was their winter and her summer.

Running Away She ran, her bare feet pounding on the marble flooring. She could hear boots pounding on the ground behind her as well as the click of someone's heels. She was more afraid of the latter catching her as she ran. Her cinnamon hair thwaped against her back, the flames of the lanterns lighting the firebrick highlights. A corner was coming up on her fast as she mentally wrestled. She knew they'd split up but which way gave her more chances to outrun or outthink them? She'd always been good at this but now she faltering.
She was behind her. She was catching up and Chailyn was beginning to panick. She skidded on the slippery floor, barely managing to turn left. She slammed into the wall letting out a yelp. She didn't have time to catch her breath, she couldn't think. She just had to run. She took off hearing shouts but not the voice of who she was really running from. The guards could catch her for all she cared. They didn't scare her.
She scared her. The girl who had the same face, the same hair, the same eyes, the same everything. The only difference was her intent, her heart. She wasn't scrambling, she was walking with ease unlike the other.
Chailyn scrambled faster her heart pounding her chest. She could feel the beating in her throat, in hear head, even in her clenched fists. She didn't even noticed she'd turned the wrong way. Her purple eyes faltered before focusing on the wall in front of her. There weren't any doors, there weren't any windows, there was just a dead end. She stopped dead in her tracks. She whippered around backing up against the wall.
She was coming...
Chailyn tossed and turned in her slumber, something that was rather odd for the tale. Beads of sweat dotted her forehead as she tried to slow her breathing. She whimpered clawing at her pillow, attempting to reach for someone to help her. She dug her fingers into the soft pillowcase clenching the material. Tears pierced through her eyelashes, slipping down the front of her cheek as she opened her mouth. A shaky breath followed by a high pitched whimper prodded her sleeping companions to nuzzle at her. It didn't seem to help at all as she curled into a ball.
A paw touched her shoulder and Chailyn bolted up right, causing the cat to fall backwards. She sat on her knees, staring at her surroundings. She was safe? She let out a slow breath turning slightly to see her pets watching her. She swallowed hard, brushing the tears from her cheeks. She didn't feel safe. Her hand reached out, taking hold of the black plushie that was nearby. She cuddled it, pulling her knees up and burying her face.

Settling In Anemone opened the door, she'd been washing the dishes in the kitchen. She peered at Nalira, her face falling into one of concern. "Nala!? You poor thing! Come in!" She paused looking over the poor tale. "Of course you can stay here for awhile," she nodded as she ushered the girl in, shutting the door behind her. She sighed trying to think on her feet. She had to get the tale out of those clothes, that was for sure.
"Nalira, we need to get you out of those clothes," she said. She gently began to lead Nalira to the closet bathroom, which happened to be near Chailyn's room. The tale was inside reading a book, or trying to when she saw Nalira and her mother. Before she could jump up to hug her friend, her mother cut in. "Chailyn, can you go see if Aislinn has some clothes Nala can borrow?"
Chailyn nodded a little unsure what to say. She smiled waving a Nala before rushing off to find some clothes for the tale.
Nalira blinked, looking down at Chailyn, stumbling back. She was gorgeous. She watched as the younger Tale rushed off to find some clothes, looking over to Ane, wringing her hands together gingerly. "Chailyn is beautiful." She murmered, looking up at Ane thankfully.
"You really don't have to do this." Nalira whispered to Ane, waving her hand through the air lamely. As she waved, her sleeve slid down her arm to reveal a trail of purple tell-tale marks. Nalira blinked, unable to close her mouth. Oh god, they were hideous. She ripped her sleeve down, her mouth becoming suddenly very dry. She squeezed her eyes shut, her stomach turning over at the mere thought of what she was doing to herself.
"You're right, I don't. I want to, Nalira. And Chailyn is beautiful, just like you," Anemone brushed some of the tale's wet hair from her face. She frowned seeing the marks on Nalira's arm. This wasn't going to be easy, not at all. "Once we get you cleaned up, we'll get you set up in Chai's room and you can get something to drink to warm you up," she gave a smile trying to ease the tension that m ight build up. The last thing she wanted was for Nalira to run.
"I don't think Nala would like pink, Linn. Don't you have anything else?" Chailyn said digging through the drawers. She'd found some jeans, pajama pants, some shorts, and even a skirt should Nala want to wear it. A pajama tank top and sweater were easy enough but all of the cherub's shirts were pink, or had pink on them. She sighed settling on a white t-shirt with a pink star, it was an extra large so the pink wasn't too noticable. "Thank you Linn!" the tale said with a smile, toddling out of the room. She headed down the stairs and passed her room noticing that Kali, who was about her age, was already hard at work rearranging the room. Sometimes it helped to have magical siblings.
"I hope you like these, Nala!" Chailyn chirped setting them down on the counter by the sink.
Nalira smiled, going slightly red at the compliment. She wasn't use being complimented. She was used to being called things, having been lived on the street, but beautiful was not one of them. Nalira turned, smiling at Chailyn, mumbling a thanks under her breath. She looked over to Anemone once more, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
"Should I .. have a shower, or something?" She asked gingerly, wringing her hands together. She shifted her attention to her feet, shuffling them awkwardly.
"A shower would probably be best. I can put your clothes into the wash to get them clean," Anemone said giving a smile. She ran her fingers through Nala's hair and moved to the cabinet taking out some shampoo and conditioner.
"I'll brush your hair when you get done! Aislinn taught me how to braid hair!" Chailyn spoke up having been watching her mother intently.
"We'll let you shower. We'll be right down the hall in Chailyn's room," she said before shutting the door so Nalira could shower in private.
Nalira sighing, sliding down the closed door, drawing her knees up to her chest. She slowly reached into her pocket, sighing heavily, her heart almost stopping. There it was. Nalira's mouth went dry as she stared at the needle pressed against her arm, feeling it slowly sink into the tender skin. She didn't need to do this, she wanted to. It wasn't an addiction, she could stop if she wanted to. She threw her head back, her breath becoming slow and gentle, her eyes closed in what seemed like pure extacy.
She wasn't addicted Nalira smiled weakly as all the pain seemed to fade away. She leant her head back agaisnt the door, losting grip of the needle in her fingers.
"I'm not addicted." She whispered. These were the lies she told herself everytime.
Chailyn settled in her room, looking over the changes that had been made by Kali. The little elf gave a small smile, proud of her work and yet hating it. It was rather bright and cheery for her tastes being that the wall was painted a soft purple. Chailyn's bed was pushed into the right corner, while Nalira's bed had been pushed into the left. Both beds were big with the main difference being the colors on each. Chai's bed was covered in deep red and purple blankets, a few stuffed animals resting on her bed. Nala's bed was covered in by deep green and gray blankets, the rest of Chai's plushies on it to keep her company.
In the middle of the wall, right in front of the window, was a big dog type basket for Laban and Taini to sleep in. They were nestled in it, sleeping while Chailyn waited for her friend. Her stomach was in knots as she looked up at her mother, their eyes echoing the worry of the other. "Is Nala ok, Mommy?"
"I hope so, Chai. I really hope so..." she murmured. She ruffled Chailyn's hair leaning down and giving her a hug before deciding to check on Nala. She was probably just being silly but she was dead worried. She walked down the hall tapping on the door with her knuckles. "Nala? Are you ok?" she asked. She didn't hear the shower running, she didn't hear anything. She twisted the knob, the door wasn't locked. Trying to edge it open, she peered in but the door didn't much move. It didn't have to. The syringe rolled out under the crack.
Anemone looked at it, her mouth dropping as she bent down and picked it up. She didn't know what had happened to Nala, why she was doing this, why she wasn't with Lemon, what had happened to Lemon, or anything. Worry reigned over confusion, pushing the questions away. She had to call the shop now, and maybe a doctor.
Nalira blinked, feeling her back slide back slowly as the door opened the slightest. She frowned, looking over to see Anemone standing there. She smiled, tilting her head, giving her a small wave.
"Sorry, didn't I lock the door?" She said airly, rocking on teh balls of her feet. She was far too gone to notice the needle in Anemone's hand. She pulled the door shut, sighing at the comforting click, indicating the door was locked. She turned, slipping out of her soiled clothes. She stepped into the shower, turning the two different knobs, letting out a groan as the warm water trickled down her back. She hadn't had a shower in so long. Sure, she'd cleaned herself with water, but not like this. She reached forward and grabbed the shampoo, massaging it through her hair happily.
"No..." she breathed out unable to form anything else at the moment. As the door shut, she clenched her jaw looking down at the floor. She didn't know Nala but a part of her crumbled just at the idea of trying to tell Chailyn about this. She didn't want to lie to the tale but she couldn't say she thought Nala was injecting herself with a drug or maybe more. She flinched hearing the click of the lock, before slipping down the hall and into the living room. "Linn? Can you go play with Chai for a bit? I need to go out...or I might need to go out," she said shaking her head as the cherub opened her mouth to ask a question.
With a nod, Aislinn rushed off as Dulcea stood up her ears perking as did Cillian's. "I'm going to make a call. If I need to go out, I need you and Cillian to watch the kids. I want someone with Chailyn and Nala at all times. Especially Nala," she added not ready to explain anything. She looked at them as they both headed off, her eyes going to the phone. Dialing the shop, she listened to the ringtone. "Someone answer."
Nalira turned the shower taps of slowly, sighing as the last bead of warm water slid down her back. She leant her head against the shower tiles heavily, smiling. She moved from the shower, stepping out and grasping the towel and pulling it around her body. She dried herself off quickly, reaching for the clothes that were laid out neatly for her. She smiled, not minding that they had traces of pink.
She moved from the bathroom, slipping through the door easily, a slight spring in her step as she walked. She flicked her wet hair from her shoulders, wrapping the towel logically around her head, keeping the water from making her clothes wet, yet again. She hummed happily to herself, fiddling with her fingers boredly.
Chailyn slipped off her bed, peering out the door with a smile. Her friend seemed in a good mood now. "Nala all better now?" she asked assuming the tale had probably just been sad because she'd been living on the street. Or at least she thought so. They still had no idea where Lemon was or if she was ok. Chai wasn't sure what to think about the guardian's absence not that she was thinking about it much.
Laban and Taini poked their heads up. They relunctantly decided to come Nala. The feline purred, the canine simply wagging his tail as they offered to be friends. "Laban and Taini are my pets, they'll be your friends, too!" Chailyn added with a laugh.
A Few Hours Later... Chailyn yawned as she snuggled under the blankets. She smiled up at her mother as Anemone covered her up and kissed on the forehead. Her eyes looked over to Nalira shining brightly. "Good night Mommy. Good night Nala." she said quietly. She was pretty sure her friend was already asleep though. She would've said it louder but knew the tale had probably had a long day and needed sleep. "Mommy, I'm glad Nala's going to stay with us for now," she whispered sitting up. Her joy with Nalira being here made her forget about her nightmares and sleep didn't seem so bad not that she wanted to go to sleep. She'd gotten her second wind and would've preferred playing with her friend.
"Mm-hmm, but it's bedtime. You should lay down so you can fall asleep. Then you can play with Nala tomorrow." Anemone smiled, giving a soft laugh as Chailyn pouted. It was a good thing the tale was argumentative and half asleep already. Watching her daughter plop back down, she stood up picking up the white feline who had been pawing at her ankle. "You sleep with Nala tonight, Princess. I need you to watch over her," she whispered to the cat. A soft mew came from the cat before she walked over to Nalira's bed and put the cat down. The cat padded up to Nala and nestled next to her gently.
With a light sigh, she moved to the door and turned off the lights. She desperately hoped someone would get her message at the shop. She was worried about Nala....she was worried about Lemon. And if Chailyn found out about her suspicions? She wasn't sure she could deal with that. She shook her head gently pulling the door shut a little ways.

Dangerous Games I'm a little scared to let Nalira stay here. It's not that I think she's a bad girl, I don't. It's the fact that when she came here and I said she could take a shower, I found an empty syringe. She's doing something though I don't know what exactly. I left a note for Huni at the stationary shop when Chailyn, well rather Princess, found her on the streets. I tried calling the shop but I didn't get an answer, so I left a message.
I'm concerned, I think that might be too light a word for it. I'm quite terrified actually. I don't know where Nala's guardian is or if she's even alive. Something must be wrong, otherwise why would Nala be living on the streets and doing God knows what. I never thought I'd say this but I hope someone is looking over Chailyn, keeping her safe. Maybe they will start looking over Nalira, too.
For awhile I've begun dreaming of angels and even having a slight obsession, everytime I see angel wings or pictures I feel like I'm forgetting someone. I don't know what to make of it but if ever I did meet an angel, I hope that they are looking over the tales. Especially Chailyn, I worry about her and perhaps even myself.

Perchance to Dream Chailyn let her head fall forward, her eyelids slowly falling over her irises. She looked worn out, disheveled, and a little afraid. She lifted her head again, trying to stay awake. She hadn't sleep for awhile and while at first it hadn't been hard, now her mind was too sluggish to enjoy anything.
She barely noticed that Nalira hadn't been sleeping much either. She wasn't sure where her roommate was not but she was too tired to care much. It wasn't that she didn't care, she just couldn't focus. Her mind keep yelling at her to sleep, her body joining in.
Taini stared up at her, knowing Laban had gone out to attempt flying agian. She purred nuzzling against the tale, trying to distract her mind. The balan really didn't know what was going on but she was really trying to ease the poor girl. She looked rather, terrible to be honest. She nuzzled into the girl's lap and continued purring not realizing she was putting the poor thing to sleep.
Chailyn's head slipped forward, her eyes closing. As Taini pushed her head against the tale's stomach, Chailyn fell back against the bed. She didn't even realize she'd fallen asleep. At least not right away. Only a few moments of rest and the nightmare snapped back into action. The tale bolted up right, wrapping her arms around the cat like creature.
"I can't fall asleep, Taini. I can't," she whispered.

Metaplot: Handsome AdonisQuote: Location: A Playground Park in Gambino District ||] || Characters: Adonis + Chailyn + ?? "There. What about there?"
"Look at that shoddy place. And the dust is being kicked up everywhere. What could you be thinking, to request I spend my time there?"
"Geez Donny, you know I liked it better when you could hardly speak coherently. But now.. well, the moment you start spouting Shakespeare, you can find yourself another bab-"
Donny's head swiveled sharply around, and he glared threateningly at Harmony, who had been assigned as his caretaker for the afternoon. Which his track record of running away, they were being extra cautious. However, she knew that the word babysitter would have him cast himself into the wind and out of her reach; so she paused at the glare, and gave him an awkwardly apologetic smile.
"-eheh, I mean, find yourself another companion."
Companion to Donny sounded more like servant, and this contented him. He handed her his umbrella (why he had one she couldn't understand, it was a dry and sunny day) and trotted off to regard the playground with distaste.
"How.. devastatingly dirty." His face scrunged up sadly and he flopped down on a bench, contemplating whether it was worth the effort to get dirty in order to have a little fun.
Chailyn gave a sigh. It was not fun having nightmares, still she'd been prompted to get some fresh air. She was happy to get out of the house though she'd lost track of Nala. She'd ended up trudging along until she got to the park, her mother somewhere behind her. She looked up from the ground, a smile lighting up her face.
He was definately older, but it was the same blonde hair. The same wings that looked like a night sky dotted with stars. The same comet tail. And yet he was so different, even more shiny than before. She gave a laugh, she couldn't be anything but happy looking at Adonis. She started walking quickly towards him, before breaking into a run. It was lucky she didn't fall.
"Donny!" she shouted stopping before him. She laughed picking up her hand and waving, struck by his growth. He was handsome, almost gorgeous if a boy could be. She wasn't sure if she could hug him, if she was allowed to even touch him. He looked like a king, one far out of her reach so to speak.
"You're so big and...sparkly now!" She couldn't even feel jealous that she wasn't grown. She was dazed.
The sour look melted when he heard his name called, and his head tilted up to look for it's source. He saw Chai running towards him, and felt his face light up in a smile. He stopped himself a second before it happened however, and gave a furtive look to Harmony. The girl blinked, before rolling her eyes and turning away. Thus he was free to express his emotions without compromising his stature as her owner, and he turned his eyes back to Chai, and broke out in a grin. Hopping off the bench with ease, he snagged the hand that waved at him, and kissed the top of it, before picking up his friend in his arms and giving her a big hug.
"Chaichaichai! I knew it was a good idea to come to this place, but who would have guessed how good!"
Harmony swiveled around and gaped at him for a moment, but he acted as though she did not exist.
He put her down and flopped back on his bench, still grinning widely.
"I haven't seen you in forever. How have you been~?"
Chailyn laughed, a blush covering her cheeks as her hand was kissed. Her eyes lit up as he picked her up giving her a big hug, just like the first time they'd met well almost. "Donnydonnydonny!" she micmicked, though it was much harder with a two syllable nickname.
"I've been good but I've missed you! And you grew! Just like Lance! Everyone's growing up! You're so handsome and shinier than ever!" she tilted her head as she noticed Harmony.
Having been set down, she turned to the girl. "I'm Chailyn, you can call me Chai though," before she got up onto the bench to sit beside him. Her purple eyes locked on Harmony before turning back to Donny.
"How have you been, Donny?" she asked. She'd have to ask her mother or someone about a way to keep her friends in touch. She wanted to see them more, she just now realized how much she'd missed them especially Adonis.
Donny's chest puffed up slightly as she called him handsome, and he gave her a sedated smile. "Yes, I know." He responded softly to her compliments, and briefly wished there was a mirror for him to be able to enjoy the view himself. If only for a moment.
"Lance grew up too?" He tried so very hard not to think that if he grew more beautiful, would that mean Lance had grown more ugly? He promised himself that he would not think of Lance as ugly, but promises such as those made in the haste of childhood seemed foggy and damp in his mind. He couldn't quite remember why he had accepted Lance as he had.
He would make sure to find the clothes he had let Lance wear that day.. and donate them to a worthy cause.
Such as a new scrub cloth for his pegasi.
"Well, isn't that nice."
His smile remained solid and pasted on his face, never once letting his actual thoughts project onto his expression.
Harmony gave the cute little girl a warm smile, and curtseyed softly as was her custom. "A pleasure to meet you Chai, my name is Harmony. I'm Donny's si-"
"You've never met my pet, Chaichaichai?"
"Donny. Now that you're older I won't tolerate-"
"Daddy bought her for me in a store. So, have you seen anyone else lately?" His subject change was as swift as his brush off of his sister was. The girl pursed her lips and gave the boy a stern look, but he ignored it.
It was a bit funny to see Donny puff his chest out. She supressed her giggles though as he asked about Lance. "Mm-hmm. He isn't as shiny as you, though." She didn't want to say that either was more handsome, she really couldn't pick one over the other. They were both gorgeous and too different to really compare.
She tilted her head as he said it was nice, about to agree when Harmony spoke. She turned giving a smile. "It's nice to meet you Harmony!" She blinked as Donny called the girl his pet. A look of confusion leaked into her bright eyes. A person could be a pet? That seemed odd to her.
"No, I haven't met her before." She offered a sympathetic smile at Harmony before shrugging. She was younger, she couldn't possibly have any idea about the subject.
"I saw Linny and Aido quite awhile ago. I see Nalira a lot, she's staying in my room for awhile." She didn't mention that neither seemed to have been sleeping well.
Anemone hung back watching the two friends, unable to hear anything they were saying. She gave a smile, opening the book she had brought with her and beginning to read.
Chai always was one of his most intelligent friends. He merely nodded as she spoke of the inevitable inadequacy of Lance's growth, and watched in careful silence as Harmony and Chai spoke. He didn't trust what Harmony might say to Chai that might poison her mind with false information. As soon as they had finished the formalities, he stole Chai's attention back to where it rightfully belonged; on him.
"Aido? Nalira? I don't recall either of those people. So you have a new roommate? How is that working out for you? She has been treating you well, I should hope?"
This pet business was getting out of control. So what if their father had in fact bought her as an egg from a store! Harmony was no one's pet.. she was her own person, and she certainly wasn't going to take this kind of treatment from that little pipsqueak any longer.
Harmony stood there for a moment, briefly stewing in her own thoughts, before she heard a familiar jingle in the air, and froze in horror.
Donny perked up instantly, and swiveled his head left and right, until he saw it. There it was, in all it's brilliant white glory. His grin turned maniacal, and he bellowed out loudly.
"IIICE CREAAAAAAAAAAMMMMM!!"
Harmony flinched at the scream. Some things would never change.
It was probably the fact that Chai considered Donny one of her, if not her best friend, that made her blind to any display of ego. He'd always been one to flaunt his goods. She didn't see if as a flaw, nor did she really think he had any flaws.
"Mm, Nalira's very nice. Neither of us has been sleeping-" she stopped hearing a jingle. It was almost ridiculous to think she'd never before heard the sound. She was taken back at the sudden outburst from Donny, looking much like a deer caught in the headlights before giggling. Even she knew what ice cream was and she had to admit it was always a wonderful thing.
Anemone's head shot up, her eyes wide. She dropped her book not knowing what Donny had said, only that he had screamed. She took a slow breath, as she saw that Chailyn was giggling, her heart beating fiercely against her ribcage. He'd definately scared her.
Without much warning, he scooped Chai up in his arms, scrambled up to stand on the bench, putting one foot on the backrest to shove him upward as he alighted into the air and took flight. The jingle was soft because the truck was a block away, but he could have heard that tune from miles away.
"Icecreamicecreamicecream" He chanted, carrying Chai off to the truck. He glided down to land nearby, his feet stumbling as they attempted to try and compensate for his landing procedure. He finally got his balance back a foot from bumping into the truck itself, and put Chai down. Immediately he took her hand and led her to the window, where an agitated worker was waiting to take their order.
"Chaichaichai what do you want? You can have anything you want!"
Behind them, far behind them, Harmony was slowly trudging toward the truck with her head in one hand, shaking it.
Chailyn's eyes went wide as she was scooped up, her eyes closing at first. Taking a breath, she opened her eyes looking down. Somehow she found it soothing to fly and graciously leaned against Donny.
Too enamored with flight, she didn't notice the stumble. "You're so graceful!" she said in amazement. He must've been flying since he'd been born, even though her original flight with him had been far less. She eagerly took his hand and followed to the window with him.
Placing a finger to her lips, she pondered what she wanted. Vanilla was just too plain, chocolate wasn't right, and so she settled on, "Chocolate chip please! It's speckled just like your wings!" she told him.
"A fine choice," Donny commented, obviously pleased that even her choice of ice cream reflected his greatness. Chai was soon becoming a companion Donny would not want to be without.
"I will have a banana split with vanilla, strawberry, and caramel ice scream. And extra hot chocolate on top, and.. sprinkles. Oh and peanuts."
The ice cream man was already done with Chai's order while listening to Donny, who hadn't waited until he returned to place his order. When he handed Chai her ice cream, he gave Donny a narrow lipped frown, before getting to work on the rather large order.
Once done, he lowered the boat down to the boy, who looked as though he was about to do a dance in glee. "Thank you, thank you! It took you long enough though.." This last part was said a bit quieter, but the man heard it well enough, and gave Donny an exasperated sigh.
"That'll be five dollars kid." He murmured, and Donny looked up at him with a spoonfull of ice cream in his mouth. Money? Why, was this man not going to give him the ice cream for FREE?
Donny realized that everything came at a price, and this man deserved his pay. Therefore he gave the man the best prize he could think of. He pulled the spoon out of his mouth, and put his hands to his hips, posing regally. His wings flared out behind him, and he beamed at the man, who he was sure would bask in his glory and be satiated.
In fact, he may even get some change back on this one.
The ice cream man stared at the posed boy, a single brow cocked. They stood there, silently, for a good 10 seconds.
Donny was getting tired of standing like this.. his beaming disposition was fading to one of impatience. The ice cream man had been looking impatient long before this, however, and he opened his mouth to yell at the boy, when a five dollar bill was plunked down in front of him.
Harmony gave Donny a withered look, and the boy gazed back at her in confusion.
"He.. got to bask in my glory, AND five dollars?"
Harmony slapped her forehead.
"There had better be a second helping involved.."
Chailyn smiled as Donny handed her the ice cream, her mouth gaping as she listened to his order. Her first thought was that he was going to get sick. On second thought, she found that it wasn't that big, now if it had been as big as the tale it would've been a different story.
She was just as dumb-struck as Donny, so much that she stopped licking her ice cream. She looked at the man pondering where they would get money. She was all set to rush off and tell her mother when his pose caught her attention.
He looked very regal with his wings flared out behind him, even more so than before. For some reason, she felt that she should bow to him. But she didn't, instead she turned her attention to how one could capture the moment. It didn't seem like a picture would do, it'd seem so small.
"They should make a statue of Donny..." she murmured. Not that it could possibly do him justice but it was the thought that counted. She looked at the man expecting a smile but he seemed agitated. "Maybe he's got bad eyes?" she asked. How could someone not smile?
Now, she remembered Harmony and looked at the girl. "Thank you," she nodded her head, "Would you like some?"
Harmony rubbed her temples softly and shook her head. "No, thank you Chai. I think ice cream would just make the headache that's quickly forming even worse."
Donny spooned up his ice cream in quiet contemplation. There was suddenly so much to think about that it had actually stunned him into silence. First, the sheer outrage of that man being paid actual money after witnessing Donny in all his glory.. it was scandalous. Secondly, he realized as he stuffed another spoonful in his mouth, that he may have underestimated Chailyn. He always knew she was smart enough to understand him, but to offer the suggestion of a statue made in his honor? He realized with some certainty that no one in the world understood him as well as Chailyn did. This was important information, and he stored it away for later use.
His list of those he could trust was growing smaller by the day, but the trust of those who remained high on the list only grew in strength.
"Why are you staring at Chai like that, Donny?" Harmony murmured, flicking his ear. He blinked and glared up at her haughtily, then stuck out his tongue.
"Becuase I can!" He shot out, picking out a piece of banana and throwing it at her hair.
Chailyn started to apologize that Harmony had a headache but was temporarily distracted by the remaining thought of a statue. She had to admit it would be hard to capture just how wonderful and gorgeous Donny was in one, especially if it was only of one color. It wouldn't at all do justice to his wings, his hair, his eyes, and everything else about him.
She licked at her ice cream cone, taking a small bite a moment later. What would be able to capture his royal-ness? She blinked, her lashes kissing the skin under her eyes. "A statue wouldn't show how wonderful you are though, Donny," she murmured.
Her purple eyes strayed to Harmony wondering if she would re-act. So far she didn't seem to fond of Donny's ego and it didn't seem like Chailyn's words would help any. Not that Chailyn really thought she was egging on Donny's ego or anything else. She didn't even notice Donny was staring at her.
Taking a bite out of the waffle cone, an idea popped into her head. "There should be an island named after you! You could have a castle and a whole court of people there! You'd be King!" It definately seemed like she was the perfect ego-building sidekick for Donny.
Trust. It came so rarely. Knowledge doubly so. Donny had uncannily almost finished his ice cream when he heard Harmony's reaction to what he felt was simply further proof of his wise decision to keep Chai close at his side.
"Oh, don't encourage him." Harmony sighed out, shaking her head as she patted Chai's head and walked off. Donny's eyes narrowed to slits as they watched her walk away, fuming at the treason his pet was offering him lately. He shoveled the last bit of ice cream into his mouth and threw the boat away.
"Come on, Chaichaichai. Let's go exploring. This place is stifling." His eyes remained watching Harmony walk away, thinned in angry contemplation even as he snatched up Chai's hand and attempted to lead her His eyes remained watching Harmony walk away, thinned in angry contemplation even as he snatched up Chai's hand and attempted to lead her away.
Trust. Trust that those around him would not eventually turn against him as they did in his dreams. It was a commodity that seemed far too sparse for his liking.
Chailyn looked up at Harmony questioning what she meant. She was only musing outloud, not to mention stating the obvious. She didn't mean to upset the 'pet' as Donny called her.
As her head was patted, she shook her head shrugging her shoulders. It was a good thing she had finished her ice cream, as it would've been hard to continue eating once Adonis snatched her hand. She pushed herself to her feet giving a nod. "Yes, let's go explore. I'm sure Harmony is just...a bit...jealous," she hated to say it but if she had been his pet, she'd be a bit jealous.
"Or maybe she wants more attention?" she mused outloud. Her mind was suddenly stuck pondering what was wrong with Harmony. Luckily, the sun managed to hit Donny in just the right way that she was distracted.away.
"Jealous. Of course she's jealous! I can't blame her or anyone else for that. But that does not excuse-" He froze in mid-step when a flash of hooded figures filled his sight. His body tensed, and his lips parted as his jaw dropped open.
"What.. who.." He whispered, taking a step back. The hooded figures.. the ones from his dream.. were they now invading his conscious time as well?
Were they coming back for him again?
He looked down at Chai sharply, as if only then remembering she was still with him, and his hand tightened around hers.
Whatever it was, he was not being rational about it.
"This way." He whispered, and without much warning he broke into a sprint, running back towards the trees and out of sight.
Harmony rose her head sluggishly, searching for the two. When she realized they weren't actually in sight anymore, her eyes focused and narrowed.
".. Donny, where the heck did you go now?"
Chailyn blinked at the image finding it odd. She didn't remember what to think of it. The figures seemed to be talking in gibberish, it didn't make any sense to her. She snapped out of it as Donny tightened his grip on her hand.
She couldn't remember what they'd be talking about and she shivered. She looked around unable to see the image cleary now. She wondered if the figures were here. It seemed impossible though.
"Don-" she was cut off as he broke into a sprint. She followed as best she could being dragged by the older tale. Being a toddler never did agree with running. She clenched her free hand, determined to keep up with him.
Donny obviously had no idea Chai had seen the image too. All that he could think of was that those hooded figures were the same ones that overtook him in his dream. With a vision as vivid as that, he didn't want to take any chance that perhaps there was more to it than just a dream.
He could feel her lagging behind, and a twang of guilt forced him to stop for a moment, only to gather her up quickly in his arms. He couldn't let them get him, nor would he allow himself to lose Chai to them either. His face was clustered in childish determination as his wings flung out their full expansion from behind him.
"Hold on." He whispered, and waited until he felt the tightening of her arms before taking flight on a hazardous journey through the trees.
If Donny hadn't stopped, Chailyn probably would've tripped soon enough. Her legs were starting to tire and going into the trees meant a ground littered with sticks. She was lucky he had stopped, only to gather her into his arms. She let out a sigh of relief thinking she could rest.
She felt like she had collided into him at first. As his wings flared out, she wrapped her arms around his neck pulling herself up a bit. Rather then shake with fear, she gave a nod to Donny. She was ready to fly.
"Mm. Let's go," she murmured. Her heart started to beat, excitement flooding into her. She'd flown with Donny to get ice cream but this was different. The attitude wasn't as carefree and oblivious as before, having been mesmerized by the shiny tale.
This time she was much more aware of the air around her. It was more serious and almost fleeting. She could almost feel a sense of urgency from him and she wondered if something was wrong. Had he seen the image to? Was that why he was so determined to go somewhere?
The wind whistled through his wings as he swiveled left and right to avoid trees. His wingspan was his only problem, and he felt the sting of branches as they snagged against the ends of his feathers and tugged a few back with them. He felt a core feather snag on a branch and rip off, and winced, making a sharp right angle turn upwards to fly up over the trees.
When he burst through the canopy of trees, he stopped, hovering above the sea of green. His wings beat furiously behind him to keep them hovered as he scanned the area they had been running from.
The trouble is, when faced with an ocean of leaves, it's hard to tell where one direction from another.
Still, it didn't seem like anyone was coming from any side, and for now that was good enough. He lowered gently down to one of the more stable treetops, whose high branches seemed thick enough to hold their weight, and alighted onto it. His arms stayed around Chai just in case the branch broke and he needed to fly again, but they loosened enough to let her know they were safe.
"I think we're okay now. Maybe I was too fast. Yes.. that must be it." He should have known no dark and mysterious entity could keep up with him.
She hid her face in Donny's neck though her eyes peered outout. She tensed when she saw the branches grab at his feathers, tearing them from his wings. Passioned hate rose up for the sin the trees committed by tearing feathers out. It made her mad but moreso worried. Not having wings of her own, she didn't know if it hurt or not.
It wasn't until she felt him wince from another feather being torn that she realized it must hurt. She frowned, wishing he would stop so he couldn't be hurt anymore. Her mind clouded over by the thought of the figures. They seemed...or rather he seemed to be running from them. Did he know them then?
Breaking through the canopy of trees, she calmed. Her nerves settled as she nuzzled against Donny. "It's beautiful up here," she murmured, giving a smile. Feeling his arms loosen, she knew whatever they had been running from must not be coming. "You've seen those figures before, right? Mm. I think, they're too dark to come up here."
"Light won't stop them." Donny breathed out, his voice tense. "Nothing does."
He blinked, and shook his head, clearing his mind. "I unno. You saw them too huh? Whoever they are, they're bad." He didn't know this for sure, except he was completely certain that he was right, and that was enough proof for him. He winced slightly, and curled his left wing around to look at it's end. A tiny trickle of blood was almost unnoticeable against his dark feathers, where his feathers had been plucked out. The very end of the wing was now bare, it's light bony color peeking out of the dark like the snowy tip of a great dark mountain. He reached out and touched it, and the wing retracted from his touch instinctually, singed by the pain.
"Oh..." Chailyn sighed feeling foolish. She'd only seen an image for a brief second and they certainly weren't anywhere she had been. She didn't think they were here now though. At least she hoped not. "Donny...are you ok?" she asked.
She couldn't really see the blood against his wings but she could see the bone peeking out. Now she was sure that was bad. "We'll be ok if we sit here for awhile. You're too fast for them," she stated with a nod.
After a few minutes, it was clear no one was actually following them, and they were safe. This alleviated the fear and anxiety that had Donny on full alert, and he slumped back slightly, and began the slow revert to his normal, cocky attitude.
"You're right, of course." He looked her over quickly with a careful eye. "Did you get hurt any?" He doubted it; he had taken care to keep her close, and he had made sure to keep anything from scratching his own perfect, delicate skin, which meant she should have been close enough to be safe, too.
Chailyn looked over herself just double checking that she wasn't hurt. She shook her head. "No, I didn't," she said giving a smile to Donny. "I'm sorry your wing got hurt."
She gave a frown hoping that it didn't hurt. She felt a little guilty. And for a moment her mind wandered back to the image she'd seen. Trying to sketch the details out, she found it harder to remember what she'd seen. Besides the two figures nothing really registered in her mind.
"What do you think those things want? Who do you think they are?" she asked gently.
"Oh.. don't worry about it. It was only the feathers, anyway - they grow back."
He would have normally fussed horribly about the damage, but there was a sullen quiet about him due to the recent event. He absent-mindedly stroked Chai's hair, and tested his wings to make sure they he was telling the truth when he said it was nothing but the feathers.
"They're bad. Bad people." He resolved, nodding sagely. "They want to make you ugly like them, and then they want to make you suffer. Sometimes I dream about them, but if you saw them as much as I saw them then that means we saw them. And if we saw them then it can't be a dream. It can't be."
He sighed softly and looked down towards the ground, before collecting the small girl in his arms and hopping off the branch. He hovered them slowly downward until they touched the ground, where he let her go.
"Maybe we should get back to the park. I think we should walk though."
He didn't think they should walk. He just didn't trust his wings at the moment; the small change of feathers could cause any number of flying issues.
Chailyn was a bit worried about the lack of fuss Donny made over his wings. Then again she wondered if maybe he was just trying to make her feel better by not fussing. It must've hurt quite a bit to have his feathers torn.
The stroking of her hair made her feel more at ease. She listened as he began talking about the bad people. She didn't like the way he talked about them. She shivered, chills running down her spine as she scooched closer to him. "I dream about running away from someone else..." she whispered.
As she was collected in his arms, it didn't much matter about the bad people. She was already thinking about getting back to the park once they landed. "We can figure out how to make a statue of you for the park!" she chirped in hopes of making Donny grin.

A Present from ElenaChai, Thank you very much for the koi. Mum has some that look like them, so I put them in their own pond so we wouldn't get them confused. Mum and I went shopping and found this neat store with all sorts of things, and I saw this bracelet and thought of you. I hope you like it! ~Elena
Chailyn's droopy eyelids twisted the note's letters and she blinked trying to clear her vision. She had slept, despite her attempts but she was still tired. It took her a few tries before she finally was able to understand the note. She smiled, goofily, opening the box to find a golden bracelet. Her goofy smile faded away replaced by awe. It was simply gorgeous. Beautiful red and pink gems dripped from the golden chain, perfect pearls and oval shaped white stones inbetween. She fastened it around her wrist staring at it for awhile longer. It was like glimmering stars wrapped around her wrists.

Its Killing Me Two months ago was my birthday. It passed like most of the others since I came here. Alone. I suppose at the time it was nice to have the few friends I have, not even really sure I can call them that. I mean...they are but yet I never see or hear from them.
When I got home, the kids were all mostly sleeping. Chailyn and Lance and Alexei seemed to have Finding Nemo on loop so it was playing still. I could hear the older kids playing upstairs, mostly Prem and Emma and Valencia playing Zorro.
I want to say that everything is fine but it's not. Chailyn seems to be avoiding sleep, so I've been taking turns staying up with her at times. It doesn't seem to help. She talked me into watching something last night to stay awake and thankfully she had fallen asleep before the end. I didn't want her to see my crying.
I've started wondering if I'm not meant to be loved. Everyone seems to have someone. I'm alone and I've given up. I'm destined to be that little girl that grows up into a crazy cat lady or something. So far I seem to be adopting children instead though. Maybe I only have children in hopes they'll never leave me alone.
Anemone sighed, shutting the tome and standing up. Her eyes flickered to the bracelet Eight had given her for her birthday and then the angel statue beside it. She sighed walking to her bed and flopping down. She was deteriorating, too worried about whatever was keeping Chailyn from sleeping to ignore her own feelings about things. She was slipping into a somber state though she tried to hide it.
She was tired now, climbing up to rest her head on the pillows. She closed her eyes giving into sleep. Maybe she'd feel better after. At one time, she remembered being happy about life and now it seemed it was all falling apart. What had happened? Whatever had, it was gone now. Forever.

The Worst Kind The children sat around staring at the air in silence. Dulcea held onto Aislinn and Miette, Kali nuzzled into Cillian with Cyrus, while Prem and Rosalind hang onto each other. The dog tahnee was almost glad they didn't have any family they needed to call. She felt like she should call someone but she had no idea who. No one could do anything, though perhaps once they had some news she could call the tale's friends. Or maybe that was a bad idea, should such little children be told their friend was in the hospital? It was all so confusing...
In the ambulance, a pen size flashlight moved back and forth over Chailyn's eyes. They didn't dilate when the light was moved away, nor did they constrict when the light came back. They seemed fixed, almost as if her eyes were staring at something and she couldn't see the light. It was odd but it's not what concerned the EMT.
The tinge of blue around her fingernails and lips was the definitive sign. The dry cough, the pain in the chest and abdomen, the hesitance in movement, and fever were like icing on the cake. Pneumonia had set in more quickly than they'd ever seen or heard. It was hard to believe that only yesterday the little girl had seemed perfectly fine, though she had had a fever and did complain of some chest pain.
Anemone sat to the side, holding onto Chailyn's hand gently. She was shivering, not because of cold but rather fear. Things were not going well lately and this was like a kick in the stomach. She'd called the doctor after finding that the child had a fever and her lips were beginning to turn blue. She could hear how alarmed he was when he told her to call 911 for an ambulance. The words had barely managed to slip out of her mouth where she lived, she'd almost fainted when the doorbell rang. The sound of sirens enough to make her heart sink.
"Ma'am, we're here. There's some paper work you'll need to fill out but we're going to get your daughter treated first." It prompted a nod from Anemone but she couldn't find anything to say. She watched as the gurney was pulled out from the ambulance, the legs expanded as they rolled into the emergency entrance.
It was surreal. She couldn't even hear anything. She was too lost in the idea that this was...something. Her mind blanked on a word to describe this event. The only thing she could do was follow like a zombie, too shocked to do anything though silent tears began to slip down her face. It seemed so wrong. What happened if... She shook her head, refusing to think like that. It wasn't cancer, though even that could be cured sometimes or at least taken out, it wasn't deadly. It could be and the child was in a dangerous stage but still...it could be treated. She had to believe her little girl would be ok.
As long as she'd lived in Gaia, Anemone had never been to a hospital. She frowned finding the air burned her lungs. It smelled so unreal, it was hard to believe people were in here. The scent of coffee made her want to gag as she moved passed the nurses' station. Moving quickly to keep up with the EMTs, she followed into an examine room so they could get Chailyn ready by inserting an IV.
The tale whimpered as the pressure in her chest pushed down harder. She moved to curl up but heard people tell her to stay still. She gave a slight nod of her head. She didn't want to move, she didn't want to breathe. Every movement seemed to cause more pain, especially in her chest. She didn't even notice the needle pierce her skin, a sensation of floating came over her. It started at her feet, her skin tingling as the feeling seemed to lift up dissolving as her eyelids shut.
"It'll help her get some rest, then we can get some anti-biotics into her body to help fight the infection."
Snapping her head up, Anemone looked at the doctor. When did he get here? Wait, who was he? Why were Chailyn's eyes closed? Horror flooded into her eyes at first before it sunk in. She gave a nod, still unable to say anything. She hoped she was having a nightmare. It seemed so real and yet at the same time it seemed impossible. The more she thought the heavier the feeling in her heart became, her head becoming light headed as she sunk down into the chair again. She didn't even remember standing up.

The Worst Kind: Part II The moniter beeped, a steady heartrate the only good thing about being in an ICU room. These rooms seemed more messy because of all the machines nearby, the wires around the back of the bed a horrible addition to the idea of being here. It seemed as if one wrong move might pull out a cord or move a wire that could cause a machine to stop working.
Curled up in the chair beside Chailyn's bed, Anemone was literally a wreck. For the first few moments she'd be ok, until the look of the room sunk in. A child didn't deserve to be in here. Even the children's ICU was unwelcoming, a foreboding sense of disease and death looming over every step. She felt like her daughter was in some dark alley, not in a hospital.
Perhaps it was lucky that Chailyn was still fast asleep, the medicine they gave her seemed to have conked her out. Though Ane wasn't sure if she was relieved or worried. At least asleep, her daughter couldn't feel as much pain but if she had been awake, if anything was wrong or getting wrose she could say something. It made her want to scream, to break something. She shivered, closing her eyes tightly. Why this? Why now?
Shakily, Anemone stood up trudging out of the room and to the small desk of nurses. "Could someone stay with her? I want to go to the chapel..." she trailed off when one of the nurses nodded.
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on her while you're gone," the elderly woman said giving smile. She patted the young mother on the back reassuringly before making her way into Children's ICU Room 6.
Blue eyes trailed over the floor, watching the edges of the tiles form a line. She pushed at the double doors, watching as the hallway became filled with carpet now. She sighed, going into the waiting room and writing on the dry erase board that she would be in the chapel. She didn't dare look at the other families, knowing they were going through similar things. If she looked at them, she'd break down there wasn't much more she could take.
The chapel was on the first floor, not far from the surgery waiting room. She blinked watching a father and daughter laugh about how many times they'd been here. It sounded so foreign, so wrong to hear laughter in this place. She shook her head, looking at the wooden outlay that showed this was the right place. On one side, in the wall a statue rested though she was too aloof to notice who it was. It was the stained glass that caught her attention, the colors giving her a little relief.
It took a moment before she went inside, finding it a little tiring. Thankfully, it was empty inside since she didn't want to face anyone right now. She looked around, examining the benches of dark wood that made the dimly enclosure seem dark. She had thought it would seem light or at least hoped in part that it would, the mood she was in wasn't suited for a dark environment. Though how a hospital could be much else at the moment...she didn't know.
Chailyn stirred slightly, giving a yawn as she blinked her eyes. The steady beat of her heart distracted her as she looked at the machine. She pushed herself up looking at the lines, curious as to what they meant.
"That's your heart beat," the elderly nurse said with a smile. She stood up moving to stand beside the bed. "It makes sure your heart is healthy."
"How does it know my heart?" Chailyn asked looking up at the nurse. She looked like a grandmother almost and it set the tale at ease. She was sure her mother was nearby and had only left for a moment or two.
"See this," the nurse touched the O2 moniter on the little girl's finger. "This shows us your heart rate. Watch," she smiled taking the clip off as the heart rate flatlined for a moment. Putting the clip on her own finger, the heart rate began to fluctuate again, small beeps coming from the machine. "And it measures your oxygen."
"Oh. So my heart tells my finger how it's doing and then it tells the machine?"
"Something like that," the nurse gave a small laugh. Even ill, children always managed to put things in terms that sounded so simply and yet so silly. "Lunch should be coming soon. Since it's Friday and the doctor OKed your menu, you get to have a small pizza or chicken strips! Both come with a chocolate chip cookie and mash potatoes, how's that sound?"
Chailyn's stomach growled and the tale giggled. The medicine hadn't worn off so the pain was gone for now and she was definately hungry. "Is it cheese pizza?"
"Yes, it is. If you have pizza you'll get some mandarin oranges and milk. We have apple slices and grape juice with the chicken strips."
"I think I want chicken strips," the tale nodded giving a smile. Lunch was always a good thing.
"I'll go let your mother know you're awake."
"Thank you...um, what's your name?"
"My name's Jenny."
"Thank you Jenny."
It didn't take long for Jenny to reach the first floor after turning in Chailyn's lunch order. The ICU was always hectic at meal times. Unlike the other patients who turned in there meal plans a day ahead, it was hard to tell who would be in ICU when it came time to eat. So they had to try taking orders a hour or so before. Of course that only counted the patients, in children's ICU the nurses tried to help the families out by offering to help get them food from the cafeteria or sitting with their children so they could get food and eat. The rules here were lax, meaning families could eat in the patient's room or waiting room, though they preferred that it was only at meal times. They didn't want patient's sneaking unhealthy food.
"Anemone?" Jenny called out stepping into the chapel. She gave a small frown, seeing the shivering form. Walking down the aisle, she patted Anemone on the shoulder. "Chailyn's awake, the medicine has eased the pain so she's doing fine. She'll be having lunch soon and if you'd like to eat with her, we can get you something from the cafeteria."
"Hmm? Oh. I'm not very hungry. Thanks. I'll go see her now," she murmured standing up and giving a weak smile to the nurse. She crossed her arms over her chest, moving forward slowly.
"She's going to be ok, it's just a bad case of pneumonia. With some rest and medicine-"
"I know...but, I have a bad feeling..." she said softly. She shook her head, if she knew anything about life...it almost always got worse before it got better. And she didn't see why this would be any different. She didn't believe anyone had heard her prayers.

The Worst Kind: Part III Her face was turned towards the window, her eyes closed while dried tears stained her cheeks. The machines were too loud to hear her breathing and for a moment, it seemed like she was dead. She wasn't though, instead she was merely sleeping not ready to leave her daughter's room.
Anemone looked drained, her face solemn and skin pale. Her clothes were rumpled, her hair tangled like she hadn't bothered to move for a week. She sighed in her sleep, restless as ever. It didn't come easier these days, more or less it would hit her like a ton of bricks and she'd be unconscious rather than asleep. Dreamless and restless sleep made for an exhausted mother, who was afraid of leaving her daughter for a second.
Jenny knocked on the door lightly to annouce her presence. She could see that Chailyn was alseep and moved to see if Anemone was ok. She frowned seeing that the woman hadn't eaten her food, no wonder she was so exhausted. That was the third meal she hadn't eaten.
The nurse sighed, picking up the food trays. At least the little one had eaten dinner. She wondered how the child was doing, she seemed to be feeling well but it was hard to tell if she was actually getting better or if it was the medicine.
Hours later, Chailyn woke up. She rolled over looking up at the ceiling for a moment. Sitting up she yawned and noticed her mother sleeping in the chair. She hadn't seen her mother sleep since they'd been there. Now if only she had someone to talk to or play with. The hospital was such a boring place to be. Even in the children's ICU, it seemed dull and terrible.
"This is the most boring place," she murmured with a sigh. She'd have gotten out of bed but she knew from experience that it was hard to get down without pulling the IV. She pouted, wishing she even had a stupid deck of cards to play with. She really didn't like any card games. She hoped she could go home soon, she missed her room and going outside.
She was frustrated a little, tired of being cooped up in this bed. She couldn't really lay on her side, only her back and it drove her a bit nutty. She didn't like sleeping on her back because she liked looking around when she fell asleep. The ceiling was rather boring to watch. She'd gotten to take a walk down the hallway and had noticed how much the tiles looked yellowed with age. It wasn't exactly the thing she wanted to notice.
Television in the hospital was the same at home but you couldn't watch movies unless they were on. She'd had the urge to watch Dumbo, she loved when his mother reached out through the small barred window and cradled him. Of course, it wasn't on so she couldn't do that.
Which lead her to thinking of waking her mom up. She could throw little things at her, but that was a little devious for her. Then again she was bored out of her mind. No wonder people went to bed so early, the nighttime was dull. There wasn't anything to do because everyone was sleeping, there was nothing on TV, you couldn't call anyone, and...well it was dull.
"I hate the hospital," she pouted. If she'd been older, she'd have ripped out the IV and tried to escape. Even getting grounded or time out was more fun than this. "I want to go home," she whimpered. She pulled her legs up, kicking at the itchy blanket. Why couldn't she go home? She felt fine.
