Briar nodded along to what Kechara said, checking the trees for the fruit that matched the description. "Stars and... hearts, you say?" Briar couldn't remember seeing any fruit in those shapes. The gummy fruit all had a similar round shape to them.

Kechara nodded, "I know, it's weird." She replied softly, "I've never seen them except for when Ryuune brought them either." She rubbed the back of her head and laughed nervously, "Maybe He had someone make them? I don't know..."
Crimson painted her cheeks again. Now she regreted her idea even more, "L-let's just forget about them, okay? You must think I'm crazy by now." She laughed nervously again, "Maybe we could find something else instead? Perhaps some berries? Or we could go back to the lake..." Oh jeez, she shouldn't have ever mention the fruits, now Briar would think she was crazy.

Briar smiled kindly at Kechara. "I bet they tasted really good," he said, turning his gaze to the trees again. The branches of the trees in this area were bare of fruit. He guessed this wasn't the best place to look for the fruit. "I'm sure we'll find them, though it might take a while."
He paused and looked over at Kechara again. "Forget about them?" He frowned in a bit of a pout. "But now I want to try these fruit you've talked so much about."

Kechara sighed, ears drooping slightly from her various negative emotions. She laughed ruefully, "Most likely." She looked back and waved her free paw dismissively, "Probably not until spring then. I suppose I shouldn't have suggested it at this time of the year." She laughed, embarrassed at herself.
"...!!" She turned away from him cheeks a brilliant red and eyes wide, C-cute...! She kept her face turned away as he continued, "R-really? B-but...are you sure?"

Briar smiled and walked over to Kechara. "Of course," he said, leaning forward to nuzzle against Kechara. "Why would I not?" He pulled back and looked around. "Hm, perhaps we should try another area. I don't see any star or heart shaped fruit here."

Kechara flushed darker, expecting her face to just burst into flame at some point. "Y-yeah..." She whispered and looked around, carefully avoiding looking at the red male. "Perhaps if we go deeper into the forest? Maybe there'll be some there." She took a deep breath, attempting to calm herself. When was she going to get used to these things? With her luck? She'd be acting like this for years to come.

Briar smiled at the blush darkening Kechara's cheeks. She looked pretty with reddened cheeks. "Good idea," Briar said, nodding to her suggestion. "Shall we go deeper into the forest then?" He held out his paw to her so that they might walk paw in paw through the forest.

Kechara glanced at him, then to his paw and nodded, taking his paw gingerly.
Ah!! she yelped silently, grasping her mate's paw a bit tighter. She hadn't realized "deeper in the forest" meant the setting around them getting darker. What if the monster was here? Even with Briar with her, fear curled in her belly. She turned her head from side to side, simultaniously looking for both the fruit and anything that might be hiding.

Feeling the squeeze on his paw, Briar looked toward Kechara. He noticed she glanced around the forest as they went deeper into it. But it wasn't just looking for fruit; she seemed to be looking for something else. Briar squeezed her paw back and gave her a reassuring smile. "There's nothing to worry about here," he said, hoping to calm her fears.

Kechara nodded silently, wanting desperately to just run away but forcing herself to move forward and stay with Briar. She'd be safer with him, than by running away.
A flash of green made her pause in step. She turned slightly, craning her neck to get a better look. Perhaps it was a leaf? Or maybe...maybe it was that monster? The moonlight had altered how he appeared so she couldn't be sure what color the monster had been. She shook her head, scenting the air. No...nothing smelled like the monster, he had smelled of decay.
She tugged gently on his paw, "This way, this way," She whispered, smiling, she had smelled something else, something distinctly fruity.

Briar frowned at the lack of fruit in the trees. Surely the fruit Kechara had described existed somewhere. He didn't notice the flash of green that Kechara saw. He was much too focused on looking in the trees for the fruit and keeping an eye on Kechara to ensure he wasn't going too fast for her. When she tugged on his paw, he let Kechara lead her off in the direction she had indicated.

Kechara ducked her head under a branch, still making her way toward the glimpse of green she could see. "I saw something." She told him as an explaination, walking more and weaving her way through the branches and roots and bushes for once in her life not being clumsy and tripping over anything. She finally broke through the trees and halted, staring at what she found.
They'd found the tree all right, but the green was moss, already beginning to decay. The tree itself was huge, it's branches reaching far into the sky. Why hadn't they seen it before? "Oh..." She whispered, taking in the trees bare limbs and the decayed fruits that lay on the ground under it. "I...I guess we're too late..." She whispered, tears pooling in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Briar, I'm really sorry..."

Briar followed after Kechara, wondering what she had seen. When they came to the large tree, he frowned at the bare limbs and rotting fruit on the ground. Obviously, it wasn't the right time of the year for this tree to bear fruit.
"Don't worry about it," Briar told Kechara, reaching up a paw to wipe the tears forming in her eyes. "Now that we know where the tree is, we can always come back when it grows fresh fruit." He smiled at her.

Kechara shook her head, "No, no," She whispered, "This is horrible, what are we going to do?" She stepped forward, "There's got to be something." She whispered, voice growing firm, "Even if we can't find the fruit, there has to be something we can eat." She ducked under a tree branch, searching.

Briar blinked and followed after Kechara. "There might not be any thing to eat here," he said, frowning at all the rotten fruit on the ground. "But I'm sure there's food elsewhere."
