Well im german and im 15 but im not going around and killing people in the will of the "mother" . its just stupid to think that the games are to blame for the crimes . everybody must think about it . arent ALL games based on killing ? even in mario you jump on a mashroom-monster and it dies but nobody say´s OMG mario killed a mashroom -.- . i hate people that blame games for crimes its nonsense. its just like blaming german people for the past or americans for the doing of bush.

well thats just what i think >.>

goombas aren't mushrooms. They are ACORNS.

MAN, if they EVER pass a law like that, I'm going to RALLY EVERY VIDEO GAME FANATIC IN THE COUNTRY and meet in the desert. There, I will split everyone into groups.

"Black Comet"(Shadow The Hedgehog), "SeeD"(FVIII), "Reunion", "Shinra", "SOLDIER", and "AVALANCHE"(FFVII), etc. Will be of these groups

and then, the riots, crying out, "Reunion calls! Bring back video games by the will of mother!"

And then, the disturbed parents will be choked by the stream of teens and adults alike untill they will be forced to return video games to there former glory.

------------------------

Either that or establish "Neo-Midgar", which will be a video game black market

------------------------
also, I want that shirt.
Heck, I want enought to wear one every day!

Here is what people need to open their eyes and realize. Video games are one of the only ways that sane people can vent. If I get pissed off at something, I come home, pop GunGrave in the playstation, and pwn some #(*&$(*@$ with undead hellfire pistols. But does that mean that I would go out and do it in real life? No. Because I and every other gamer knows the difference between reality and a simulated game.

What I'm waiting for is when they take away the games. Then some kid who gets bullied everyday is going to come home and say, "Hey, there's no more video games so I can vent this s**t out...so I guess I'll have to let it out on real people!!!" Then all those people who are offended and against computer simulated rocket launchers, are suddenly gonna have real ones crammed up their rear ends.

Nice...missile suppository.

Well, I wouldn't say that it would be "every gamer" who knows the difference between reality and simulated games. It is the few who do not make this differentiation, who have lost sight of this line that divides both, that cause gamers this ire, and bring scrutiny and claims of criminal behavior and intent our way. It only takes one idiot who shares your hobby to shoot up some people and say "I learned this from Doom!" to get the media and parents going.

Honestly, I agree with your main point that video games, especially violent ones, are a good way for kids to vent, or at least spend their energies in a way that would not bring harm to anyone else. Although I did not accumulate stress from bullying or harassment of any sort, playing video games, violent or not, was a fun way for me to cool down, and let the day end.

What's unfortunate is that, like many folks have said before me (I might have already said this, but don't recall where, exactly), video games are like the new Rock n' Roll and comic books. They're new, the older generation doesn't understand them, and in turn, comes to fear them. It's a natural response that a lot of folks have, although a lot of times unwarranted.

Those teens in Germany (the ones involved in this particular case) are helping to increase this ridiculous fear over video games. These individuals in question apparently are not mentally capable of seeing the line that separates fantasy from reality, and have little if any care regarding the life of others.

It's not the game, so much as it is what's in the head of the gamer that determines if stuff like this happens. What's sad is that the majority of folks who do play games, even if it's just Pong on your calculator in math class, fall under the label of "psycho killer" or "juvenile delinquent", even though many of these people who play games are hard working, smart, and probably some of the most pacifistic people in lifestyle that you'd meet. Not that they all are, but they certainly aren't criminals.

Point taken, and I fully agree with your argument. Another thing that is against us is bad parenting. Parents raise kids and show neglect and uncaring for their children, then when the kid does something stupid like setting the school on fire, or shooting up their class, or whats similar to the article at the beginning of the topic, then the parents to make themselves look better find something to blame it on.

I can guarantee that 9/10 incidents that have been blamed on video games are just cases of framing the video games for something that the parents had done over many years. And whats worse is that people are starting to believe them. Scientists are raising flags on video games faster than the Irish can get drunk. And those are the scientists that people listen to, ignoring the fact that there are just as many scientists that say the exact opposite.

There was an article posted a while back in some magazine that "video games of most sorts promote good hand-eye coordination, and some actually increase intelligence by promoting use of the mind, rather than the body itself". this is the only GOOD thing I'e seen for videogames since 2000

2. I would totally join the video game protest.
3. FFVII ish not too bad ethically.

Ridiculous....

The problem today is the fact that parents don't want to take any blame at all for their kids' actions. Their scapegoat is TV, video games, and even anime now that a general amount know what it is.

Parents are the reason that everything is so crazy. What happened to the days when you were allowed to smack your kid around for being a dumbass? Now people just try to find something other than themselves for raising kids that are violent.

That article is a prime example of it.

I agree with the bad parenting. Parents are too lax lately....letting their kids go to hang out friends and buy whatever they want....cell phones, video games, iPods, basically your 21 century digital girl. My family's different....since we're Asian and we live in a very strict atmosphere. My parents fear that I might take something from the video games and become violent. The problem is that the parents don't THINK that anything would happen. The Rock n' Roll generation was violent already. I mean, some dude shanked a police man because they didn't let him go to Rock concerts.

Thats some bs but I guess when u bored n can't think of somethin u blame the first thing u can think of even if it's the greatest game ever.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 08, 2007 2:15 pm

Its stupid, and sad that people blame the games when most of the time they have nothing it to with it. I mean this case. I can't really see how FFVII would tell anyone to go out and kill anyone. I think its terrible that they blame it when the people playing had a bad personality to begin with. With the so called game related crimes it makes more sense if they have bad personalities to begin with. They are just probally just into the game or something and probally wanna get that favorite thing involved in their crime. That might be one reason why video games are blamed quickly. Because a person with a bad personality likes the game. That could be it. I mean, I do play some things like Devil May Cry but I never got the idea to go out and kill for real. Though I did once think of killing myself when I got depressed then suddenly thought of Spira. But that doesn't mean that FFX makes me want to kill myself. It just means I could have gotten depression from my mother, it also means that something happened that caused me to be that depressed. But still, they would still blame it because I thought of it before thinking of ending it. Oh, I don't usually think like that. Actually that was the only time they.

sweatdrop Perhaps I should stop

The only ones to blame is the media. Since like ever the media to even simple news and made them so damm bad and evil so that everybody goes crazy.

Also there is nothing that can´t make people go crazy and force them to go out an kill.

These "Final Fantasy Killers" or all the other "Videogame Killers" are´t that bright and are mentally very unstable, so of course if something happens (like in a Game like FF) that they don´t really understand (for exsample for what Sephiroth stands for in FF) the only thing they can do is going out and realising that fear and anger.

This won´t be the last killing that has been done because of a Video-game. ... .... hmmm that reminds me of the Witch-burning all over the world. Dejá vu
