Sunstrike

There was a pause in movement from Sunstrike's part of the room. He had been quietly rebandaging his chest, wings again folded to where they needed to be.

Unlike Vahn, Sunstrike's eyes could see barely anything within the darkness, so he couldnt read if there were any emotions going through Vahn's face as he made his statement. He sighed softly.

"I hate nights like this....s'too dark...," He stood up, thinking about what to say. "I'm sure your esteemed reputation is intact Vahn...I never really thought it was ever that important to you...just useless baggage, from your attitude."

Grinning, he popped down on the bed beside the other figure. "Sides, I rather doubt something your interested in is just a simple "errand." I know you're worried about the stadium crowd just as much as I am...so whats up...why are we still here and not hiring the next bug home?"

He copied Vahn's position on the bed, sitting against the wall with his feet out and waving back and forth. "I'm not tired, and it'll make a good bedtime story."

~10 Minutes Earlier~

"This is insane!" the commotion within the meeting room was growing to quite the din, as vocal fights broke out. "How can you beleive this Vahn's words when you don't even know where he came from?!"

"I agree. Since when did the Head Magister begin to listen to the words of a man whose identity is unknown?"

"...." Dain remained silent, merely drinking from his cup of coffee.

"Everyone, calm down. Magister Dain! I beleive we need to investigate this matter a little further." Murmured agreement steadily spread throughout the room.

"I agree. I just can't believe that recent occurences are the work of some fictional demon!"

Scoffed laughter was heard, as one man cleared out his throat, waggling his finger about. "To think that a beast that was completely annihilated centuries ago could be the culprit... This is all the doings of the Lizard Clan! Nothing more!"

"If truth be known... It does sound preposterous."

"...Hmm..." Dain continued to merely watch quietly for now, placing his cup down onto the table.

"I believe the rectn discovery of ruins at the Salt Pans is more deserving of out urgent attention!" Called out another man, looking to the others for agreement, as Dain seemed to refuse to utter another word to these foolish people.

"Then it's been agreed that we will send a delegation to the ruins to investigate the matter. This meeting is closed!"

~~

"Ha!" The short laugh echoed out in the dark room, as his eyes closed, leg moving a bit to lay across the bed. His chest rose and fell with each breath, the silence drawing on for more than a moment, Sunstrike's words still fresh in his mind. After a bit, his voice broke the silence. "We can't go back... not yet. I'd never thought I'd be here again... I mean I ran away the first time. Maybe this is just Fate's way of dragging my butt back to finish my business here."

Eyes opened once more, as his right hand fumbled around the bedding, fingers soon clasping around the slim box he was seeking, pulling a slender cylinder out. Placing it to his lips, he struck a match alongside the box, creating a small flame, enough to light the cigarette between his lips.

"You know about the war against the Lizard Clan?"

Sunstrike waited politely as Vahn made himself comfortable...soft plumes of smoke twisting along the only light of the room...the candle was lower now...and the shadows deepend. He shifted uncomfortably at the question, expecting it but still uneasy about the friction between human and lizardkind.

"Dain spoke of it, yes. And the treaty that followed it...apparently thanks to you." Sunstrike grinned. "I'm not sure I believe you ran away though...that's a heck of a boom to "escape" in."

I wonder... if he'd still look at me the same way, if he knew... if he knew... Yellowed eyes opened, gazing out the window, towards the moonless night sky. "Yea, well-- Dain asked me to do him a favor."

Sunstrike swallowed softly and looked down at his hands, or, at least, the bandages that covered his hands.

"What kind of favour? Something to do with his grandchildren...or..." He left the question open, he was curious as to what the two "old" ones had talked about in their absense.

Everything today at the ruins, all the strange glyphs, kept comming back to him...forgotten stories uncovered by misunderstanding eyes...

"It seems the people are going to try for another truce." Thin tendrils of smoke drifted through the air, twisting in and out, as his eyes closed and he leaned the back of his head against the wall. "He wanted you to deliver the signed letter to the Lizard Clan council personally."

Yellowed eyes flashed open and he stared straight at Sunstrike. "It won't be cool, Sun. It will be dangerous... Until the treaty is signed, fighting will go on. And since you're the 'bridge' to both races, some may want to capture you for ransom... Hell, you could even be killed. Which means anyone who goes with you will also be at risk...."

Ah for the love of....

He snorted and looked up, his head making a slight "thunk" against the wall, eyes closed and not meeting Vahn's.

Knew it, didn't you. From the first moment recognition blossomed over his looks in the old mans eyes, he knew. From that little talk about not caring about what someone looks like...The fighting was still happening. More kids like Hibon and Nahara would be born to fatherless, motherless, siblingless families.

"There's something wrong on top of that, though, Vahn...something you don't want to tell me...I've asked this before...Why does a race at peace, suddenly go to war for naught? This didn't happen naturally...something else is the cause...and I'd be diving headfirst into something darker then land dispute..." Blind, out of touch...how could I possibly be a bridge...when I don't know anything about the other culture, the other race...hell he felt out of it enough with the humans...let alone a race he'd never met.

"If I go...I'll go alone. I'll be able to think clearer when I don't have to worry about people I have to protect as well...they won't be able to ransom me, because I'm not officially "part" of the humans." He grinned. "At least this time I'll be sticking my nose in a bit more aware of whats going on...as opposed to just falling in...the amount of times I should have died....well, they almost rank up with you...life just ain't worth living unless you walk the line between "having" it and "losing" it a little." He reached out suddenly in the darkness and planted a hand on top of a tousled red haired head shaking it softly.

"But I'm not going because I have to...I'm going...if you ask me to. If this is something that you need help sorting out with, I'm only too happy to put my daft neck on the line, as I've always been. And I know that if you think it's important...then it truly must be something that seriously needs looking into....I trust you Vahn...and I'll go." He snickered softly. "And you never know, I could be a complete success! Then we can go home and sort everything out for you...okay?"

"There are some truths in the world, better left unknown Sun..." He pushed himself forward, sliding off the bed, bare feet landing on the floor. "We'll talk more about it when we get to that point." Lips held his cigarette in place, as he blew a few rings out, before taking hold of it and flinging it tot he side, where it clattered against a wall, then into the trashcan that was there.

"By the way... where the hell is my sword?" He asked, cocking his head towards the younger man, even as he began pulling his shirt up and off his body, revealing bandages upon bandages. He began undoing the bandages, letting them slide off his body and pile onto the floor infront of him, muscles taunt and then relaxing, the artifical light from the streetlamps outside casting soft light into the otherwise darkened room.

"Well I think I should know some if I'm...going...to..." Sunstrike blinked as the other man shed his clothes, and realized rather nicely that all he had to do was sit and watch. His feet moved again idley as he studied the other man, til Vahn mentioned Flamberge.

"Sw-sword? What sword? Ohhhhh, yeah that one, well...apparently there wasn't really enough, ya know room for four bodies AND a sword, so yeah, it's still stuck in the earth back where they first found us..." It was such a nice view, maybe when he got up some artist materials he'd draw it...

His body.

It was hard to consider, if anything, this being his real body.

"Figures..."

No, that body had been left long ago... a mere husk. Even the body that had been badly lacerated, punctured, and then burned beyond recognition in the finale of his battle with Reiko had not been his real actual body.

"...I really can't lost that thing you know."

The real body of Vahn, the original body... was too much to handle, even in this state, without the magical seal that had first surpressed most of Vahn's strength and gave him a youhtful look.

That body itself.. well, that's another story.

The body that was here, right now-- was one made by science and the energies of a young woman named Tellus. It had been devoid of any scars, and was nicely kept cleaned with proper hygiene, but ever since the last couple days at the Stadium had earned him several scars, all across his chest and stomach, and even on the back of his neck. Although it was hard to notice that kind of detail in the low light setting the room was in at the moment.

"Old man gave it to me and all." He grinned in the partial light, running a finger along the bridge of his nose as he stood there, before bending forward a little and undoing the tunica lent to him, dropping them to his ankles and stepping out of them, wearing only his red briefs now.

"I'm gonna hit the shower..."

"Mm-hm...I'll probably be asleep when you get back..." There was a shift in shadows and Sunstrike wandered over to his own bed, yawning.

"We'll probably get the sword back...maybe in the morning you can ask Dain if it's a good idea. Sorry it got left...if I'd been in better condition-" You'd have your sword...You wouldn't be here, I wouldn't be here...the traitor would have never gotten that spell...

Sunstrike blinked as it hit him all at once...like the feeling had been waiting for a lost moment to gang up on him. He sat down on his own bed silently and let it wash over him...what on gaia had he been thinking?! The fight with Maximos...he couldn't get his head around most of it...he'd just stood up...he'd wanted to get out of the stadium...and then...it was just a blur...

He rubbed the bridge of his nose. Gahhhh stupid darkness....

"I know... what your thinking." He said outloud, his body framing the doorway, as light from the bathroom poured out into the dark room. He remained paused in the doorway. His slim form leaned against one edge of the doorway.

"And don't. What happened, happened for a reason. that's all there is to it."

He lifted his left arm up, his hand waving him off as if to stamp down his point.

Sunstrike sighed and nodded.

"I'm just tired...always sneaks up on me then, cause I can't defend myself." He barked a laugh from the shadows. "I wish I had the ability to just cast it off like that." He flopped over to his side at the opposite end, peeking at Vahn in the light from over the endboard of the bed.

"D'ya know...at one point, I could do that too...but I ended up casting off too much, so I think it's all catching up to me while it can, I'm backlogged when it comes to emotion...You'd best think about that while you still are able, Kas..."

And with that he crawled back up to his pillow, and sprawled atop the blanket, dozing off.

"......" Vahn had turned his head to the side, yellowed eyes catching Sun as he fell atop his pillow. Without another word, he walked into the bathroom, leaning against the sink and staring into the mirror. <********> His fingers tightened ont he marble top of the sink, as he lowered his head; reaching forward to turn the knob and let the water run. Am I really ready... for this? Do I... really have to stop running away? Both hands reached into the basin, bringing cold water to splash against his grizzly face, unshaven as it was, something he'd have to remedy tonight.

Hard to imagine that fifty years ago, I called this place home... He stopped rubbing his face, and looked back into the mirror, before turning the faucet off and heading to the shower, stripping off his briefs and kicking them to the side en route.

Hard to imagine... once more I have to take up that name. He pulled back the curtain to stall and stepped in, hands reaching for the knobs immediately, letting cold wate pour in, splattering and raining against the walls and floor of the stall. Drops of water struck against his flesh, instantly clinging, pooling and running rivets down his body. A body that soon became slick, and drenched, as he leaned forward, letting the water drench his hair, locks of red sticking to his face before he brushed them aside.

"....."

The curtain was pulled back, a tanned hand gripping the material before releasing it. Droplets of water cascaded down his body, hitting the floor, as his wet feet padded along the floor, leaving a trail of water.

"......"

Shaking his head to and fro, red locks sent flying water in every direction, as he 'dried' off his hair, before settling down and fumbling for a towel that lay hanging on a hook. Dragging it off it's hook and around his body roughly, drying off parts of his body. A wet and drooping cigarette was held by his lips, partly lit, and nearly dying out.. he'd been smoking in the shower apparently.
