But props on using people from COMPLETELY different generations, Eternity, when things like Boca patties and other forms of MODERN vegetarian diet weren't around. Jesus' existence is not in question, it has long been known that HE did exist, whats in question is whether or not he is really God's son but thats because we dont even know if God exists. I named those who were known to eat meat, being 'smart' can be a range of things whether philosophically smart or mathematically smart, the point is he is considered a genius, and so was Jesus and so was Buddha.
No Buddha did eat meat, it was a rare meal of course because he was only given food offered to him in after becoming the Buddha but prior to that when he was prince he was known to eat meat a lot and did not neccessarily condemn meat-eating.
Buddha in the Anguttara Nikaya 3.38 Sukhamala Sutta, describes his family being wealthy enough to provide non-vegetarian meals even to his servants. After becoming Buddha, he accepted any food offered with respect as alms, including meat, but there is no reference of him eating meat during his 7 years as an ascetic.
On one occasion, a general sent a servant to purchase meat specifically to feed the Buddha. The Buddha declared that
... meat should not be eaten under three circumstances: when it is seen or heard or suspected (that a living being has been purposely slaughtered for the eater); these, Jivaka, are the three circumstances in which meat should not be eaten, Jivaka! I declare there are three circumstances in which meat can be eaten: when it is not seen or heard or suspected (that a living being has been purposely slaughtered for the eater); Jivaka, I say these are the three circumstances in which meat can be eaten.

I dont care if you think wikipedia is an unreliable source, usually when it is unrealiable their is a 'questionable information' thing at the top, if you want to refute this evidence feel free to using another source that is a neutral source of information.

Love Is Destructive Unibini Ok yeah plants do feel unfortuantly because they are living thing (well thats what my biology teacher told me anyway) but u are right about them obviously not having brains too so i suppose is they did feel any pain they wouldn't actually feel it because well they have no brain! sweatdrop ...plants do not perceive pain. Perceiving pain requires a nervous system and nerves to return to a brain in which a message for the sensation of "pain" to be delivered to that specific part of the body. ...which NO plant has. Chickens, on the other hand, do have brains and nerves that allow them to feel "pain". The dumbest s**t I've seen an anti-vegetarian post is "Corn has an IQ of 3." And no, that's not a joke. Someone actually said that. rofl LMAO!!!! rofl

I have been vegetarian for two years, before that i ate meat. I still call myself a vegetarian. Yes Buddha did eat what was offered, as do almost all monks of the Buddhist order. People who worship Buddhism are usually the ones that offer the food, they know that it is bad kama to serve meat. Although i have to concede that it is debatable whether Buddha was vegetarian or one that ate meat.

Love Is Destructive Celtic Mystick Actually, I do believe they feel pain its just not in the way we do. Their brains are like their entire form because each part of them has a memory cell, mostly in leaves though I think. But how I know that they do is that this one time someone was copping a tree down and me and my friend swear to god we heard a scream from it. I have been in long study of spiritual influances of trees and their personality types of what kind of trees feel what. They do in fact remember and can feel things and sometimes even speak! They are far more then decorations upon a garden or lawn. Although not many believe this but experience to me prooves what science cannot. If you weren't being sarcastic about that statement, then you've just said one of the DUMBEST things I've ever even seen. Ever. You can't remember anything if you don't have any place to properly store it. Memory cells don't have brains, and your post is just full of stupid. Mmmmkay. The world isn't all about matter, there is also energy. Science can't solve everything, it is only there to help us learn not have a person say that one thing is true and another isn't. So no matter what you say people will believe what they want when there is no facts to proove that it is wrong. Because to proove it you have to check every single living thing.

My best friend's a vegetarian mainly because she doesn't like meat (which I find hard to not do because I love Wendy's.... and Taco Bell.... and McDonald's.... and I think you get the point.)
Also, E=mc2.
The 2 is supposed to be kind of over the c, but I don't know how to do that on the boards yet.... if you can do it.
Also, I figured out my energy in 7th grade. We'd been doing the same type of math problems and I was able to figure it out once I figured my mass in kilograms. The multipy that by the constant speed of light squared (constant speed of light x constant speed of light).
And there you have your energy.... You'll have to find how to do your mass, though, I forgot that...

Considering we do know he did eat meat prior to his great revelation I think its safe to conclude that he was more than likely a meat-eater, whether he only ate me in rarity or on occassion, I have had times where I have gone a year or two without eating any meat whatsoever.
I responded with a post of meat-eater intellegent people because your post seemed to be a bit on the "Oh well lookie here, only vegetarians are smart so stick it!" razz

Blood`Eternity I responded with a post of meat-eater intellegent people because your post seemed to be a bit on the "Oh well lookie here, only vegetarians are smart so stick it!" razz Personally I don't believe if a particularly famous thinker or large populus believes in something that it means we too should believe it. Although I do believe it is worth enquiring into. Some people however like to follow the examples set by people (rolemodels), my post was for their benefit.

I agree, I believe in things based on what I personally believe in, I like eating meat because I personally enjoy the taste of almost all meats and I think its my right as a creature of this earth to feed from and give to the planet earth.
Also for the record, I am an existentialist and do not believe in any Gods or deities.

E=mc^2 is physics, not in the same sense that earlier poster was talking about (and if it was, so much for that whole "energy" argument). Energy is produced by anything. Batteries produce energy. Not the same kind that nature is composed of, so, therefore, is irrelevant. And also, if you love those places so much and eat there often, I strongly suggest you get away from it before you get the health problems that go with it. I hereby would use the movie "Supersize Me" as an example.

Eating at fast food restuarants cause obesity and unhealthy people because the meat is processed, and they're cooked very unhealthy(fryers). The only reason why that guy got those affects from eating fast food is because he was eating 3 whole meals from Mcdonalds everyday for a month. That's a whole lot of fat for your body to try and handle, but if it was spaced out more it wouldn't of had the same affects.
Therefore, his experiment is pretty much flawed for the average human being.

I hereby would use the movie "Supersize Me" as an example. Believe what you want but I have experienced things on a spiritual level, been places you will never go. You can argue all you want but it will never change of how I persieve things. You can believe of what you will with me but it will still not change who I am. Your continuous struggle to proove me wrong are only showing of what you truly are and the more you do it the stronger I have feeling for what I experience. You can believe what you will but that does not excuse what is true for me. Things are not always how you persieve them, everyone experiences things differently in life. And even life its self has more then one set way of living and thriving. I have studied and watched my entire life to know these things that I say, they are true to me because it is the way it comes to me. I will respect your opinion as to it is your way of thinking not mine. I urge you to do the same for me. You have no right to judge what I have experienced just as I have no right to do that to you.

Being a vegitarian also has benefits simply in the amount of energy that you can get from your food. Think of it this way, when a pig eats corn, the pig uses that energy for himself to do, well, what pigs do. But then when you eat that pig, your only getting the leftover energy of the corn that the pig ate, scientists estimate that you can be getting as little as only 10 percent of the energy from that corn. So, being a vegetarian, or just eating more of the greens that we all need to eat everyday, will definitly benefit our energy levels.

I'm not a vegetarian, mostly because I have no problem with killing animals to eat them.
And also because vegetarianism doesn't prevent animal deaths. You wouldn't believe how many animals are shot, trapped, poisoned and otherwise hunted to protect grain crops. For example, when I go around the farms here, livestock farmers will tell me to take as many rabbits as I'd like [usually 2-5]; farmers who have crops on their properties will ask me to remove as many as I can.
