< Continued from Main Deck>

Skidding back into the room, Syn plucked up the quill and stuck it in between her teeth as she rifled through the papers, finding the correct one. Dipping the quill in the ink, she rapidly yet carefully inscribed the time and date onto the sheet of paper.

Sticking all supplies back into the desk, she scrambled in the direction of Ao's cell.

Moving quickly, Baxter walked into the wardroom and began clearing the large table of all decorations and other such clutter. It seemed a shame to dirty such a pretty table with blood and bone, but the tables in the surgical room were far too heavy to port, and tacked to the floor besides.

Reginald moved all of the chairs out of the way and continued about the work of prepping the area to treat the wounded. He only hoped that either Miss Kale or Doctor Morgan ventured to the Medical Deck to retrieve some instruments.

*In her haste, be it adrenaline or the fact she had been in a daze above deck, she had tightened her grip on the medicine case a little too hard, causing pain to shoot though it once more as she ran down the hallway to the Wardroom. The pain still brought tears to her eyes as she came up to the large wooden door that only a short time earlier, she had been waiting outside of to escort John back to his bunk. Jaden bit her lip rather hard as she slammed her shoulder against the door to the Wardroom to get the Doctor's attention.

She noticed for a moment, that the return cannon fire from the opposition had stopped, making it eerily quiet as she awaited an answer at the door. Something terrible was about to happen... she could feel it.*

Serving as a sort of harbinger of doom, fulfilling Jaden's fears, Syn kicked the door unceremoniously open and stomped in backwards, still dragging the Captain since she was too short to do anything else although she had taken special care with any stairs they came across. Tuslo followed her, perching on the nearest shelf and huddling there as a refuge from the battle. Still smudged with soot and her clothes scratched and cut in places from flying bits of wood, she looked first at Baxter, then Jaden, panting as she sputtered to them in a somewhat sarcastic voice (although the sarcasm was more for her own sake than theirs).

"Wellll hello there! Got an unconscious Cap'n here! A nice chunk o' wood fell on 'is head an' he might need medical attention. I'm not a doctor or nurse or even a midwife so I've got no idea whatsoever if he's got internal injuries or a... con... kun... concu... head bonk. So I'm sure checking 'im over would be greatly appreciated."

Seeming oddly calm despite the cannonfire, Baxter looked at Syn and replied, "Well help me get him up on the table here."

Reginald grabbed the Captain's legs and lifted. With Syn's help, they maneuvered him onto the table so that Baxter could examine him. "That will be all, Miss Beaumont."

Where he was hit was obvious enough. The front of his forehead just above the hairline was swollen to great extent. For such injuries he knew only one treatment.

"Miss Kale, fetch a few rags, a compress, a metal coin, some silk, my scalpel and small bone saw if you please. I have to releive the pressure to his brain."

Then he muttered more quietly to himself, "I knew this would not end well."

*Syn's abrupt entry into the wardroom made it obviously easier to get in to lay down the items she had brought in with her. When she had first pushed on by and kicked open the door, Jaden didn't recognize the body in Syn's hands as the Captain.

A moment of shock went through her as she watched at the door, the Doctor and Syn still moving him into position. She walked into the room slowly, setting the case of salves and medicines up on the main table at the far end, as if she were in slow motion. Jaden then began to lay the make-shift bag filled with instruments and bandages up on the table as well as the Doctor dismissed Miss Beaumont. She had just started unloading the blanket of items when she heard the Doctor address her.

She nodded as she came back to reality now fully hearing all the sounds of war once more along with the request the Doctor asked of her.*

"Well, I have plenty of bandages here which could help with rags and compresses, and you should have some prethreaded needles in your bag, I saw to that earlier." She said, shaking her head as she tried to not stare at the unconscious Captain upon the table.
"... um," she fiddled with what was in the blanket, "Your scalpel and other delicate utensils are here as well. I made it a point to think ahead and had them ready below deck..." She thought for a moment on the last two items he asked for: a metal coin and a small bone saw.

*She ran from the Wardroom without a single thought down to the Infirmary deck once more.*

*She panted heavily as she returned with both cases in hand. She looked at the Doctor trying to prep the Captain as she walked over to the table one more and set the cases at the foot of the table.*

"I... didn't know... what... exactly to look... for" she said, breathing heavily. Her face was flushed from running down and back with the tools.
"I... brought... this small one... and this... one," she pointed to the larger of the two cases "It... looked like... you could use... this one as well..." she said exhaustively as she collapsed momentarily in one of the chairs beside the table.

*She sat there, catching her breath, as she thought about the coin the Doctor also asked for. She ran her hands across her legs and her bandaged right hand came across her small leather pouch on her belt. Thinking for a moment, she slipped two fingers into the bag and searched at the bottom for something. Still trying to slow down and recompose herself, she found the very thing she was looking for in her pouch. Picking it up between her fingers, she slowly removed a coin from her bag and took it up into her palm before looking up to the Doctor at the head of the table. She held onto the gold piece she had tucked in her pouch for emergencies and nodded. If there was ever an emergency to be had, this would most definitely be it.*

After assisting the Doctor to place the Captain on the operating table, she stood back a moment to see if anything else was needed. When Baxter dismissed her, she gave a curt nod and whirled to head back to the Main Deck to do the best she could. Hopefully she wouldn't get too injured. The minor scratches and scrapes all over her weren't worth sticking around for. Tuslo stayed on the shelf, somehow fast asleep despite the noise of battle.

"Very good," Baxter sighed as he pulled his straight razor from his pocket. He began to shave away hair that was just above the swelling area where the Captain's head was bashed. With the area free of hair he continued on.

"Good thing your already out for this part, friend."
Baxter said to the unconcious captain on the table. He then took both hands to his scalpel, one to guide and one to steady, and he began to cut down into the flesh of Kurisutofa's head until he felt bone. Just as he finished with the scalpel, baxter noticed an odd momentary quiet.

Looking to Miss Kale, whom was still seated, catching her breath, Reginald shouted,
"GET DOWN!"

Without warning, a shot from one of the Bodicea's guns blasted it's way through the wardroom. After the smoke had cleared and the debris had settled, Baxter stood back up and proceeded with his work. He carefully scraped the flesh from the one of the Captain's skull. The next part was very tedious indeed. He slowly started in with the bone saw, careful not to puncture the brain, afterall, the Captain was not in need of a lobotomy, not yet anyway. He slowly proceeded to cut a small circular hole into the bone. He was done in about two minutes.

Now that this was done, the swelling would recede on it's own, but would not put dangerous amounts of pressure on the Captain's brain while it was present. He then grabbed the coin and a needle that Miss Kale was so kind to prepare. He tied the thread around the coin. He then produced another thread, removing the needle from this one, and tied it around the coin in the opposite direction so that the silk made a cross over the coin's surface. He then proceeded to position the coin over his neatly cut hole in the Captain's skull. He then anchored it in place by stitching the thread into the captain's scalp. Once all four ends of the thread were stitched, he pushed on the coin to make sure it had enough give to allow brain meat somewhere to go to alleviate pressure, but also that it was secure enough to provide at least a modicum of protection from the elements.

"Miss Kale, are you all right?" He had not checked to see how Miss Kale had faired during the onslaught of the cannonball through the wardroom. He hoped she was unharmed.

Dr. Morgan paused for a breather just outside the wardroom- the trip there had not been the easiest and he had had to rest himself several times. The injuries to his ribs were finally giving him a taste of what it felt like to be old, a feeling he dearly hoped he would leave behind with their healing, for he was no longer a young man. He had watched the captain pass by, unconscious, but figured that Baxter knew the trade at least as well as he if not better, and would fare fine without him for a while- what help could he be in this state anyways?

Upon entering the room, he saw Baxter hard at work in a ruined room- it looked as though a cannonball had passed through. Morgan leaned against a wall and surveyed the damage, trying to determine if there was anything he could do and awaiting instructions from the other doctor.

*Light poured into his vision. Blinding to say the least, it confused to see what lay before him, or rather above him: long blood encrusted silver strands hung down his cheek, but what hung over his eye could not be made out. It was a complete mystery to him. At this point, he was none more than stupid. Watching with an almost distant look in his eyes. It was something similiar to watching a play, to look, but not interact.

The thought of pain didn't strike him. He felt nothing, aside from the rapidly beating heart within his chest. The feeling was sensational to say the least. A pun played at his silenced lips and in turn he began to chuckle. But what seemed to seep out of his pursed lips came as a half-coughed chortle: cut off, brief and spitting blood.

Running down his chin, he licked up what blood lay about his lower lip.
Looking above him, he stared into Reginald's determined consentrating eyes as he worked feveriously at fixing Jack's brain. Could Reggy see what he was thinking? 'Possibley', was forming in his mind when he caught Miss Kale & Dr. Morgan out of the corner of his eye. Miss Kale looked as determined as the Doctor, and though he leaned in the corner looking as if he thought himself useless, just his presence was appreciated.

The sounds above deck told of a horrible dog-fight between the two ships, but even though it was so desprate a battle, Jack seemed to put it to the back of his rattled mind. Were there any other crewmen hurt? He hoped not, but only time would tell. Though the thought did cross his mind that if any slack-jawed idiot that came in with a few splinters or a scrap, he'd have them hung.

His eyes rolled back into his head, the light vanished and once again, he seemed to drift into a world of unconciousness. Out of sight, out of his mind.*

*Her mind still wandering as she attempted to calm herself down, was caught offguard by the Doctor's shout to her.*

"GET DOWN!"

*A moment caught in time, like a painting on an easel. It was if everything was slowed down to where she couldn't react fast enough. The cannon ball came through the wardroom with a deafening crash. Glass, metal and splinters of wood flew through the room as the ball ripped its way through to the opposite wall. Jaden's knee-jerk reaction was to dive. Under the table she went as the shrapnel flew through the wardroom and took both whole and partial furniture items along with it. Paper floated through the air as well as snowflake-like shards of glass as it twinkled in the candlelight.

Her bandaged hand came alive once more with pain as she landed hard on it in the corner. She found herself lying on the floor beneath chairs, debris and a tapestry which had been on one of the walls. The thick material saved her from a large amount of slices and dices across her body from the rainfall of glass. She did have noticable slash across her cheek from a stray piece of wood as well as some nicks from shards which slit across her arm, but other than that, she made it out unscathed.

Unaware of any significant pain other than her hand, she slowly got up from the floor and tipped a chair back upright and checked that it had all four of its legs before setting herself back down beside Doctor Baxter. She was unusually quiet. It may have been because she was in shock, or perhaps it was the fact that Reginald was performing intricate surgery on the Captain that caused her to be unusually quiet, but there she sat, backwards on the chair, peering over the Captain with a look of both determination and worry. She never noticed the trickle of blood coming down her cheek as she pushed back her touseled curls and merely acknowledged Doctor Morgan's entrance into the room with a set of piercing green eyes before looking back down at the Captain.

Just as quickly as she noticed the Captain's eyes darting around, looking at both the doctors and herself, he had fallen back into unconsciousness. She grabbed a spare bandage from the floor and brushed off any debris that may have been on it. She wiped the blood from his lips and watched Doctor Baxter intently as he sewed the coin into place. Never had she seen a procedure so intricate as this, and her normal demeanor was overtaken by one quite unusual. She was determined to learn what he was doing intertwined with moments of worry and she was uncommonly quiet. Deadly quiet. It was if she was in a protective state. If the next person to walk through the door to the wardroom was an unwelcomed guest, they would not like to meet her on the other side of that thick wooden door.*

*Mind swirling like scrambled eggs, his eyes open and focus slowly.
Where was he? In a cabin of some sort. Finding the strength, he sat up and looked about the room. Though in shambles, it had potential.

Realizing an odd discomfort, he looked directly at the man whom he took to be a doctor. This was a rather conveinent moment to be in the company of an obviously trained physican due to the fact that he did, infact, have a medically related question. In an oddly quieted voice...*

"Pardon me, sir...

I take it from your tools and blood-covered apron that you are a doctor. If this is true, I'd like to ask you to diagnose me: I'm a little woozy... lightheaded, if you would. Also, I can't seem to see out of my left eye."

*Dizzyness kicked in at this point. Leaning to and fro, he fell back into his laying position, his head slumping to one side. From here, he stared at the ceiling awaiting the man's response. He chuckled to himself. The laughter itself was different. It started low, gurgled and then wore itself into a high pitched tone. It seemed to hang about the room for a moment and then faded.*

"Well, my good man... what are your thoughts?"

*Looking about the room from his horizontal standpoint, he spotted the young woman standing in the corner holding a few instruments. He took on a look of desperation, his eyes watering...*

"Miss... young miss. Please, come closer. Far closer: I beg it of you. I can't seem to speak too much louder, so you'll have to be very much closer."

*Extending his arm, he raised his forefinger and beckoned her forward. A small smirk developing on the corner of his face.*

Staring at the captain, Dr. Morgan blinked hard and shook his head. He turned to look at Baxter.

"He supposed tae be doin' tha', nae?"

He looked back to the incoherently babbling captain and bit his lip.

"Seems more'n a mite strange if ye ask me"

Looking back and forth between Doctor Morgan to the Captain, Baxter finally managed to speak. "This is not good."

He quickly doublechecked all of his tools to make sure there were no signs of brainmeat on them. Finding them clean, he had no choice but to attribute this to the Captain's meeting with the broken yardarm on deck.

"He's lost his memory, Morgan. To answer you question, this is strange compared to his normal behavior; let us hope it's only temporary or I'll have to remove the coin in his head for another procedure."

Looking at his patient, he addressed him directly now. "You can't see out of one eye because you've a patch over it. How you lost it, I know not. Surely some past run in with the British or something of the like, but I was not with you then. You lightheadedness can be attributed to a few things. First, a yardarm above deck was destroyed and came crashing down to the deck with you under it. You were brought down here so that I might tend to your injuries. I'm afraid I had to bore a hole in your head. In any case, the dizziness should cease if you were to lay back down."
