Roogan-Sama Roogan-Sama Says! And also, we do more then keep tempo, and if it wasn't for us you bandies would loose tempo and suck a**. Thank you very much. :] Yeah, and your pretty much exactly right. our band director told us to stop playing in the middle of the song to see if the band could hold it up without us, and they fell apart within 5 seconds.

i have to say, that saying a whole group of people are cocky is wrong. there are some people in every stinkin section that are cocky, but its not because of the instrument that they play, its because they're idiots. so, not all drummers are cocky.
secondly, you definetly do not know how hard it is to play any marching drum for a long period of time. your back hurts like hell, your forearms hurt like hell, and basically your whole body hurts like hell. i'm not saying that your instrument is easy to play, i'm just saying that you shouldn't say that drums are so easy, cuz you don't even know.

Not all drummers are cocky. Hell, our pit section this last year wasn't cocky at all. Unfortunately, a lot of us tend to be cocky; no idea why, we just are.
That being said, drums ARE important to the band. They help keep tempo; I've been told several times by different friends that they look to me whenever they need to keep tempo.
(And hey, there ARE other cocky people in band... I distinctly recall a saxophone player who is cocky with music AND with video games, before getting his a** whooped in Super Smash Bros. Melee by my flute friend playing as Peach. Good times =D)

Drums aren't hard if you can play simple beats. Try learning ALL the different rolls and rythems, which would include being able to read Percussion music.
Trumpet players are also phenomenally cocky.

I play drums and I'm pretty sure none of the drummers that I play with are cocky. Sure they're crazy and maniacs sometimes but it just makes it way funner.

BlRahshj why are drummers so cocky??? its not like they have a hard instrument all they have to do is keep tempo i do that playing the a. sax and the baritone... i've picked up the drums n there not hard... set is but im talking about marching drums... I marched with both the baritone and the snare/basses/quints, and I have to say that hands down, the drums take the cake. Especially the quints...try playing on 5 surfaces, marching differently (crab stepping) and attempting to watch the director, then on top of it carrying those things. You know how much they weigh!? Anyways, not all drummers are cocky, ok? Please don't stereotype us, alright?

well yes the drums do not seem very hard at first i agree but when u get into complicated stuff i mean that is the part where it gets hard. try the tenors for instence they are difficult to learn because u have to deal with like 4-6+ drums at one time that takes some time to learn it is not something u dicide to do and the next day your the next greatest tenors player ... just saying ... the other drums are a bit more simple but they still take some skill even though as u put it we "just keep tempo" yes that may be true in some bands but if they did not keep tempo it would be hard for u to play the instuments that u play ... just my input smile

think what percussion REALLY is. when u think about rythms you think like " we can do that or thats nothing special" but the truth is it is for example u might be able sing a really fast rythm but ur hands cant corrospond or adding accent/ certain sticking. then u have mallet percussion. which most percussionist i've meet have the hardest problem. for they may have to play a harder rythm than the rest the band but the variation of notes mess them up stare

stare evil what are you yakking about!!! Drumming is very freaking hard. I want u to come 2 my drumline practice and play the crap we do! Any retared can bang on a drum, but it takes talent to lead an intire band plus tote something around that weighs about 45 pounds! Drumming is not a passion; it is obsession. You can't think u can just strap on a drum and lead an intire band; it takes alot of dedication and practice to do that. I've played drums for 7 years and I still have alot to learn. Give some respect to the drummers; we drummers (expecially bass drummers) cannot see you when we march. And not all drummers are cocky and stupid. Just so you know. we have to put up with stereotype jokes and people like you who think its easy mad
