Chobah was running the second she heard the sound of battle in the woods. She was there in seconds, through ways only she knew of. She watched as the dark man took Kamiss' sight, sobbing silently, unable to move. Then, as the man stepped away into the trees, she dashed from her hiding place. Certain it was safe, she knelt by her friend, her pain at seeing him so almost as unbearable as she knew his was at being so. She screamed into the forest, sending up black masses of crying birds. No one responded, no one came. And so she stayed, between Silas and Kamiss, as darkness fell around them. She bandaged their wounds as best she could, but she was no woodsman. They needed help she sould not offer. She called out for help, over and over, in her mind and into the sky. Waiting.

Kamiss awoke, and immediatly was scared. By birdsong, he could tell he was still in the forest. He could hear two people breathing heavily, and knew one of them was Silas. Kamiss opened his eyes-and saw nothing. He stretched his mind and felt a bandage aorund his froehead and eyes, but knew that wasn't the problem. Reaching his concious out to the left, he brushed Chobah's mind breifly. "Chobah." Kamiss whispered hoarsely. He tried to sit up, and got to a half-upright position. He raised his hand, and from a distant river a trickle sounded. A small glob of water entered the claring, and Kamiss swallowed it. "How long have I been asleep?"

"Shh, sh. Not long. It's almost dark though. We need to get you somewhere safe for the nght, but no one has come. I tried to get somewhere here, to help you..."
Her voice was cracking. She couldn't help it.

"N-No..." Kamiss said, pushing himself up on hands and knees. Though his loss was only his eyes, he was feeling drained of power-equal to that as if he ahd lost a limb. "He... He'll have a-attack-" Kamiss coughed. "He'll have attacked the village by now." He stumbled forward. "I-I Need to fight him." He stretched his mind past Chobah's, and found Silas'. A picture of his body entered Kamiss' mind, and Kamiss was able to bend down and pick him up. He threw his concious around in a circle, and found Raiynoc circling around of the clearing. Land. He thought at the dragon. "Can... you fly a dragon? Nobody's in... the tavern, so I won't know w-when we're there."

But you need to rest. You can't fight like this...

"Yes, I can fly a dragon. Is Raiynoc here?"
She stood and peered up into the darkening, cloud-covered sky, but could see nothing.

See... Kamiss has lost his sight. He'll never see again...

She almost lost it then, but held strong.

Raiynoc dove from the sky almost immediatly, and tore the ground up with his claws. Kamiss jumped onto his back, not between the rider's larger spikes but the smaller passenger spikes. "If I... don't cut out Trrar's eyes, Silas' eyes, mine, and everybody else Trarr has attacked will never get their eyes back. He w-won't kill yet, because he is just from the dark plane and won't be able t-to kill until he has more eyes trapped in his blade's magic."

Chobah nodded.
"I understand. What about Silas? I can't lift him. Can you...raise him up with your power?"

Still stuttering, Chobah climbed between the riding spikes on Raiynoc's pack, patting the familiar dragon affectionately, if a little absentmindedly.

Kamiss grunted in response. His brow furrowed and Silas was lifted off the ground and bundled to Raiynocs belly with magical ropes. He sighed and leaned back. "Fly." Kamiss said. "I might be able to help you." He pushed his mind gently against hers. "Let me see with your eyes."

Chobah blinked rapidly at the double vision that she felt for a moment, then adjested. She could help Kamiss see.

"It's not far. C'mon dragon, let's get them safe."

Chobah whispered in Raiynoc's ear, feeling the answering grumble more than hearing it.

The dragon lifted off the ground, using the might of its wings to get the loft needed. Soon they were gliding silently through the sky, and Chobah was scanning the trees for the break that would show where the Inn was located.

"Take Raiynoc up." Kamiss said. "That way we can see how far Trrar has taken this." Kamiss let go of the partial hold on Chobah's mind, and sent his spirit to Raiynoc. He then blinked beneath his bandages, as his sight adjusted to a deagon's view.

Chobah nodded, utting a hand on Raiynoc's head.

"Up, friend. We need a better view."

The dragon obeyed swiftly, powerful muscles and tendons carrying them almost the the stars. They could see the entire continent, from the eastern sea to the western mountains.

Through Raiynoc's advanced sight, Kamiss could see down into the village. "It seems okay." He siad out loud. Kamiss looked to the left, acing the western mountains. And past them, the towering skyscrapers that signaled the lands of technology-the land Kamiss rebuilded. He wanted badly to go over there, get a gun and blow Trarr away, and return to peace, but it didn't work that way. Kamiss sighed, and chucked Silas off Raiynoc. He guided his fall, stopping him before he hit the ground, and guiding him into the inn. Kamiss drew a strength reserve from Raiynoc, and threw his mind out as far as he could. He touched many minds, but none were Trarr's. "I don't know where he is." Kamiss said.

"Don't worry, we'll find him. But for now, you need to rest."
Chobah vaulted from Raiynoc's back as the dragon landed, eyes on Kamiss, waiting to see if he needed help getting down.

"We'll get you some sleep, then we can plan our next move. Alright?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 24, 2006 12:31 pm

Kamiss didn't dismount; he slid sideways, legs dangling off raiynoc and finally falling. He reached a hand out and twisted, landing upright and with no injury. "Sure." He walked inside the inn, saying no more, and immediatly fell asleep on the bed in his room.

Chobah stayed out in the yard, letting her overly-taxed mind puzzle through all that had happened in the past few days. So much pain for Kamiss. Probably too much for him to handle. But how could she help? Her only power was the ability to communicate with animals. Great for scouting and passing secrets, but nowhere near strong enough to help with a battle. Especially one of this importance.
She knelt by Raiynoc, leaning against the warm hide of his (His, right? Not hers? I honestly forgot.) stomach. The steady rhythm of the dragon's breathing calmed her a little, and she started to drift off to sleep.
In her dream, she saw Kamiss, a blind and broken man, wandering the streets of a ruined city, searching for something he could not find. She called out to him from a building, but he kept moving. He stumbled in the street, and fell, and the street opened up and swallowed him. The dream disappeared in darkness, and Chobah rolled over on the dew-wet grass. The rest of her night was dreamless.
