Kagerou Osajima Hello. Anyone to wander into ED subforums may be familiar with me. My name is Mary, though I often go by Kagerou online. Kind of an RP character thing. I was born and raised Catholic. Until college, went to Catholic schools. Its not really that bad. Actually, one of the perks was the ability to have religion classes and at least hear people talk about such things. I certainly appreciate it more as an adult, as it's help me be more reflective and understanding of people I disagree with. I've always been of liberal temperament, and skeptical of metaphysical explanations... which set me up well to become an agnostic and eventually all together atheist by the time I hit my teens. Without a soul, I'm still quite spiritual though. I've been studying Buddhism as a religion.. and especially Zen philosophy fits very well with my own. As for Western philosophers... my favorite at the moment is Voltaire. Voltaire is very cool. *points to sig* good choice, though for an atheist he was a very religious man...haha, just proves another illogical point that makes the universe a giant paradox. Welcome Kagerou! Happy Thoughts.

Although I have been in this guild for a while I guess I didn;t post here. So I feel bad. It polite and customary to introduce yourself to everyone and I failed. So here I am now to make up for it. I'm a junior in highschool, although when I joined I'm pretty sure I was a freshman. I enjoy listening ot peoples perspectives and I enjoy reading and discussing philosohpy. If I ever wanted to clap my hands, it's now. I haven't bleieved in god since my sophmore year. I'm not against it, just apart from it. I have had occasions in my life where I questioned why I was here, and why do I have a reason to be the person I am or the person I or other people want me to be. So I decided to stop judging myself and others and have been slowly opening myself up to others since then. " A person's true nature is revealed when no one is around. " I feel like time is slowly running out for me. BEing a junior in highschool scares me, because I'm always worried what I'll do when I don't have a designated schedule, or when someone has told me to do something. So individuality is something I greatly admire and hope to achieve. I'd like to have conversations with you guy.

Yo...welcome...all that nonsense. I appear to be the only one really running around PA these days...it's cool to have someone else to talk business with.

My name is Raeden, you can call me Rae if that is easier. I am actually a Psych major (Junior in College). I finally decided to take the intro to Philosophy course, and I am really glad I took that instead of the intro to Ethics class. Philosophy is SO much fun! I never knew how much fun it would be! I never knew that I actually *do* think philosphically at times! It reall amazes me. I have actually been thinking about teaching philosophy as well, but we shall see how it goes. The department professors are thus far interesting and easy to get to know, so that is a good thing. All in all I am very new to the true philosophy, not the BS that everyone talks about! I am very interested in this group, so thank you for allowing me to be in it!

Amen to that. I took Sociology, for lack of a Philosophy course, and now I'm a jaded, cynical b*****d.
So yeah, hello and welcome to the newest recruits, and hope that we can breathe some life back into this place. I'd elaborate, but Fooly Cooly.

Hey everyone - I am currently in my third year studying philosophy at University and i love my subject which is why i am hopefully going on to do a masters next year then maybe a Phd depending on money and other factors. I have quite a wide ranging background in Philosophy - i know the basics quite well e.g. Plato, Arostotle, Descartes, Locke, Hume, Kant. I have also done some Leibniz and Spinoza, Scopenhauer, a little Nietzsche. I am into Sartre at the moment but he is soo hard to read. I haven't done very much ethics. My main interest is Philosophy of Mind which is incredibly interesting and baffling at the same time I am currently doing my dissertation on Brain Bisection and the unity of consciousness so if anyone has any opinions about this area i would love to discuss. I also did a course on formal logic but am pretty hopeless - i must refresh my skills sometime as it was in my first year. I am very friendly so feel free to pm me if you want to discuss anything (i will do my best confused ) um...yes i think that is all i wanted to say.
