`~[Christine--Daae]~` I must say, the only part I liked of his singing was (bite me) PONR and Mirror. I only liked PONR because I haven't heard any other version, and Mirror because it sounds good. My favorite Erik is from the Leroux book. heart . So hated, yet just wanting love (by kidnapping poor Christine, but anyway). They also got one other aspect wrong. Daae is supposed to be BLONDE with blue eyes. They should have stuck whoever played Meg in the role, then the movie would be slightly better. Also, isn't Raoul supposed to have a brother, Philippe? Idiots forgot to add him, I suppose. scream . They got so much wrong I could scream. Carlotta is how she should be, but is a bit too much of a diva, and her freakishly 'boob-tastic' outfits that are too low-cut for anyone on this planet, or any other. They also cut out much more of the book, such as the Persian. But I digress, the movie was ok, they just could have gotten better actors/actresses to fit the parts and sing like they should have. (Plus Raoul is supposed to be a semi-FOP, too. He cries every other chapter!) Raoul isn't a FOP AT ALL. Stop saying that. D: The movie was off of Webber's musical. The man was more concerned about the love story he wanted to create between Christine and Erik because he was writing the musical for his wife-at-the-time sarah Brightman. Webber never even read the book until AFTER he wrote the script. He wrote the musical after seeing the Ken Hill musical, which he'd previously thought would flop. The man did a lot of things wrong in the story, including changing Carlotta's nationality. She's Spanish, not Italian. Just because the countries are close doesn't make them the same thing.

Love him just not as my angel of music. 1. Didn't have the range for the part. I mean honestly he is supposed to be in falsetto in some parts and he butchered the music. 2. I don't remember there ever being a scottish accent. 3. He voice didn't have the quality to it that you knew he was in pain and bordering that thing line of genius and madness. It was lackluster.

Anyone else see something odd about this? Erik cries as much as Raoul does in the book. Stop overlooking that, please.
Most of the reasons I dislike Gerik have been reiterated again and again. He's alright as an actor but as the Phantom, our beloved Erik? No, thank you. You have to get someone with more singing experience, not sex appeal.

PhantomoftheFox Why don't I like Gerard Butler? I can't really name one thing that puts me off entirely. It's more an assortment of little things that just grind my nerves... We do not like his voice so rough We do not like his chest so buff We do not like the way he prances We do not like his spandex pantses We do not like his poofy shirt And how we hates that stupid smirk! We do not like his shiny hair We do not like lack his lack of flair Or how he throws around his cape (Hey, Gerry! Take a clue from Snape!) We do not like him here nor there We do not like him anywhere We do not like the Scottish man That's why we second Uta-san 3nodding Lord of the Rings and Dr. Seuss are bad for me... *cough* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...COUCH COUGH...choking from laughter! this is awesome I agree Gerry isn't a great phantom. I do not completely despise him however. I mean ALW did choose him so whatev. I still think Henk Poort (dutch phantom) rocks the most...well compete with Saulo Vasconcelos the Brazilian phantom

Well they made him drop dead gorgeous (in my opinion) and that kinda ruined the whole entire point of Christine supposedly being terrified of him. I mean, if he's that handsome who would be terrified? But other than that I love him. Heeee.
And that poem sent me into fits of giggles. I love his hair, his floofy shirt, and his cape-swooshing! Along with his bufness ect. >.< But that was still fooneh. Yeah, he's not the real scary phantom but hey, it's better than the skin-sewing mask guy...(and he makes me drool.)

Kuraire Mandy8191 welcometomyhell Quote: 1. yes he did have little singing opportunities before Phantom, but I dont think he did a bad job, it rather fit with the phantoms character, granted he is definitely nothing like Michael crawford NO. Erik is supposed to be able seduce people with his voice. His voice is supposed to be the epitome of perfect music, hence why Christine thinks that he is an Angel. It's not Gerry's fault he's inexperienced, but his voice does not fit Erik's character- unless Erik was a rock and roll sex god, which he isn't.That's what I was gonna say. I completely agree Mandy I personaly think that his voice fit the part because Erik is supposed to have a sexy, on the right side of danger type of voice...does anyone agree with me?? I don't. Right side of danger? Erik is on a whole 'nother level of danger. But that part doesn't come out often in his music, if at all. Music been his only outlet for years; he isn't going to make his voice as scratchy as a broken record player for anyone.

Erik is supposed to have an other-worldy voice akin to an angel's. It's how he was able to convince Christine he was the Angel of Music. As for danger, Erik was psychotic. The man was a walking corpse who was shunned for 50+ years, and spent nothing short of a decade under an Opera House under the guise of a "ghost." He was mentally unstable. That is not the "right side of danger."

I loved Gerry! He was the person who introduced me to the awesomeness of Phantom in the first place! He's not my favorite Phantom anymore, but I still won't start bashing him because I discovered Leroux, Kay, Crawford and Co. Gerry controversy aside-I think EMMY was the real issue with the movie. However-
I liked him in the film because voice aside:
1. He's dead sexy. Yeah. I know he's not supposed to be, but he is and I loved him for it. I still don't mind it.
2. All I Ask of You Reprise. In my opinion he just really seemed to connect with the part in that section. He seemed to get the emotions and feelings of the character in the lesser numbers of Act 2 as well. (Basically all went fairly well except PoNR, IMO.) I felt him acting wasn't too bad....except sometimes he DID go a little overboard, stopped singing, and turned up the whine.
I didn't like him in the film because:
1. Poor guy was miscast. He didn't have the proper range or vocal training for the Phantom. Even with technology. ...Something I feel is going to happen to Mr. Depp in the upcoming Sweeney movie.
2. Music of the Night. Ouch. The Rock 'n Roll voice doesn't work for a lullaby/seduction song. Point of No Return was a bit rocky too.
3. He is dead sexy. Yeah-in the end it's a pro and con. I guess it all depends if you're looking for something canonical or not.
