[I decided to change Maki's color. <3]

Looking from the new boy to the girl, Maki couldn’t help but become more and more excited. How long has it been since she’s seen any other girls close to her age? Quite a while, since everyone at the temple was always busy doing different things. They were always doing lessons, and the only place that Maki seemed to see people was when she was looking for food. How funny that was that?

Turning first to the fuzzy male, which race she couldn’t tell exactly although she thought that she’s seen someone who was similar to him back at the Cantina. ”The Kitchen is behind us, and there is lot’sa good fruit!” She said with a nod of her head, ” I’ma sure that there is something you’ll like as well. Oh, Tis Maki as well. It’s a pleasure to meet chu.” She said simple to him with a bow of her head as she turned to the Twi'lek girl.

Back at the cantina, Maki knew quiet a few Twi’lek’s including a few of her own caretakers. Although she wasn’t very good at speaking Rylothean, she could at least get her points across. But first, she wanted to use Basic and hopefully the girl understood that. Letting go of Edan’s hand, Maki turned with a smile to the girl. ”Yep, we talking to chu. I’ma Maki Sekel. It’s a pleasure to meet chu. Where are you from?” She asked, she was worried that the girl wouldn’t be able to under stand her.

So, speaking very slowly, Maki spoke Rylothean although it wasn’t as natural as her basic. ”My name is Maki Sekel, It’s a pleasure to meet you. Are you new at the temple?” Of course, it didn’t have the same speaking pattern as her basic, so people would think she was speaking better than when she spoke basic.

Pala moved closer, when the purple-haired girl assured her that yes, indeed they were talking to her. She stopped next to her, fish in her tank swimming in circles furiously after the little tsunami she gave them while walking.
She was getting ready to anwser her first question, when she heard it repeated in her native language. What a pleasant surprise!
"It's nice to meet you, Makisekel. My name is Pala'olan." She anwsered in twi'leki, and then switched to basic. She must've noticed, that her basic got much better after those few week in Master's residence. "I was born on Ryloth, but lived mostly on Tatooine, unless I traveled. then I didn't." She smiled. "And yes, I am indeed new here."

Edan blinked in shock, staring at Maki when she started speaking in a different language. He himself only knew Basic, and -like the poorly informed child he was- simply assumed others of his age would be the same, human or not. So he stood in silence as the two girls spoke a few lines in the that strange language, at a loss for what to do until they thankfully reverted back to Basic.

It was the first time he ever realized he wasn't a fan of being unable to at least understand conversations he was situated around. Though the prospect of perhaps learning such a language was rather exciting.

"Sorry about confusing you, I didn't mean to," he apologized with a generous bow of his head, rising it with a warm grin on his face. "I'm Edan, it's nice to meet you, by the way. Though, sorry, what did you say your name was? I couldn't catch it." He'd heard Maki say her name, so would only logically assume the Twi'lek had said her name as well.

In fact, he was currently praying she did if only to try and avoid a very embarrassing situation.

Pala moved her eyes to the boy, and smiled to him warmly. "I said, that my name is Pala'olan, Edan. And nice to meet you too." She grinned. Talking with people of her age was quite..pleasant. Yes, it certainly was. "Is my twi'leki too fast? I can try to speak slower next time. I rarely talked with people not native to it, so I don't have much..." She paused for a moment, looking for the right word. "...practice. I don't have much practice. Sorry for that." She smiled again, hugging her things.

Edan shook his head apologetically to her words. "No, it's not that. See, I only know Basic, so it's not that you were speaking too fast but... I just don't know Twi'Leki." He repeated the name she used for the language, though with an unavoidable edge of uncertainty as he wasn't exactly sure if that was the proper name for it.

But practice? Practice with Basic did she mean? There was an odd concept to him. "That's alright," he still said in his automatic gentle nature. Even if he didn't fully understand, no reason to do something that might be taken as mean.

"Oh!" Pala blushed, angry with herself. It was way too easy to make mistakes by assuming things!
"I am so sorry...I must have misunderstood you...I should've listened more carefully. Please, pardon mu ignorance!" She bowed quickly, and the fish she held started swimming in even more furious circles. How dare she?!

"Oh no! Please, I didn't mean anything by it. I'm from Dantooine and we almost never get ships and people coming to our planet. So I really don't doubt that other kids from other planets would know your language, it's just... well, I never got the chance," he explained as kindly as he knew how, if not frantically to try and solve the sudden awkward situation. Oh the horrible power of miscommunication.

"It's probably my fault anyways for wording things wrong, so don't worry."

Watching Pala’olan and Edan speak back and forth between each other was quite interesting for Maki, as she tried to remember exactly what Pala’olan had said earlier on. So the girl was from Tatooine, and seemed to speak both Twi’leki and Basic which was quite interesting. As for Maki, she knew quite a few more languages than most people did. After all, she was a slave at a cantina and needed to speak to the customers, so she learned whatever they spoke.

After being quiet for a while, she decided to join in their conversation. ”Edan, Chu doesn’t have to worry about it. I’sa should have spoken in Basic to Pala’olan earlier. But.. I was so excited earlier. So, both of Chu don’t have to worry.” She said, patting Edan’s back in a friendly manner.

”Did Chu have a cantina back on Tatooine? I’ma wondering if I knew anyone there. ” She said, trying to change the conversation a little. Speaking proudly she continued, ”I’sa was a slave back at mi home, so I knew quite a few other slaves who got sent to Tatooine, so maybe you’ve seen some of them. One was named Ni’luo, an Ithorian boy about our age?” She asked, although she doubted that he was known.

Camlan watched as the one called Pala and the one called Edan talked back and forth. He understood when the purple haired girl had spoken in another language, though he certainly could not repeat it. As the son of traders, he could say the basics in a few languages but since they rarely traded with Twi'lek. Normally another would be there for pick up.

His ears perked when he registered that the kitchens were right behind him. As if on cue, his stomach gave a little rumble and Camlan looked away embaressed. "I am sure whatever is in the kitchens will be good. As for what is in the kitchen, I am sure it is better than what the cook made on my parent's freighter. They are traders."

Tatooine and Dantooine were two places he had seen and visited. In fact, he was born on one of those planets. Camlan couldn't remember which one, they both sounded the same to him. "Maybe we can all go in together?"

He was happy to have Maki jump back into the conversation, even happier to see the subject switching. "It's alright, Maki." Truth, it was probably really smart for her to speak in Pala'olan's native language, if only to take away the possible unease of being in a new place like this.

The talk of the cantina drew him into silence again, bright smile fading into a soft smile as he listened. He really wished Maki would stop using the term "slave", even if it was the truth. He always cringed whenever he hear her say it. But it was an interesting thought, that Pala might know Maki's old friends. In fact, it made him think of just how small the galaxy was -all things considered, that is- and how connected the planets and their people were.

Camlan's words shook him from his deepening thoughts, to which he turned to the boy with the smile still plastered to his face. "The food here can't be that bad," he agreed, faltering slightly when the sound of his own grumbling stomach to which he laughed and nodded in agreement to his later words. "Yeah, lets. I think we're all pretty hungry anyways." With that, the boy slowly made his way back into the previously exited room, only to cry out when he saw Jin darting around the room with a bowl of fruit on his "head" and a fleet of hyper squeaks and whirls and beeps.

"That droid... is insane!"

"You were working in a cantina?" Pala suddenly became more interested. "My mother was taken there a few times, and she never wanted to tell me how it was! Even after I was going to be sold there!" The girl shook her head, slightly annoyed when she remembered that conversation. "What is it like? I was always curious. I almost ran away from that jedi man from sheer curiousity!" She laughed, thinking how silly it must've be.
"Ni'luo?" she thought for a moment... "I think I've heard it somewhere, but I'm not sure. Sorry to disappoint you."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 10, 2007 11:13 am

"Don't worry about it, Ni'luo was.. oh I'sa can't think of the basic word for it." She said, trying to think. But, instead she spoke in Ithorese
"Fathers son." She said, nodding her head. It was the man who she consitered a father, his birth son. Nodding her head, she ended up saying the best that she could in Basic. "Father's... son? I'sa don't know how to explain it. I'ma sorry."

Looking up towards Pala, Maki couldn't hold her excitement. In moment, she was very closer to the girl and smiling brightly. "Yep, My mother sold me there. And you were almost about to be sold to one? Where were you before that?" She asked excitely as her own curiousity seemed to overcome her.

"I'sa was lucky though, since at the Cantina he made me be a waitress instead of a dancing girl. That's how I'sa was found for the temple."

"Well, my mother was a dancer." Pala smiled, remembering her. She was a very gentle woman... "And a very good one, I must tell. So good that Owner let her keep me! He was..." She paused, looking wor a good word. She never knew who exactly he was... "...I'm not sure...he was a collector, I think...he was collecting people. Every time he came back from the journey, he had somebody new with him. But later on he rarely went anywhere. Not much money, I think. He liked dice too much." She nodded slowly. Mother always said gambling was bad. That is, when the Owner didn't hear her. "That's why he was borrowing mother. Me, I think he was to pay with for his debts to the cantina owner. Or he lost me in cards, I'm not sure. Too bad I never got to know how it looks inside." She smiled brightly. That was one of the things she was always curious about.

"Chu's mother was a dancer?" Maki responded with excitement, as she looked over at her. "Then you must be really good at dancing as well. I'ma good at singing, so maybe one day we can have fun together? Ne?" She responded after hearing about her few friends life before the temple. That was when a great idea came to her, as she looked at Pala. "I'sa know! One day you'll get to visit a cantina, and we can both enjoy ourselfs there. At least, enjoy not being slaves there. Ok?" She asked, with a grin on her face. "And we can enjoy the food there too!' She really was just a hungry girl all the time.
