Natalie laughed, watching the two of them. So cute! She thought she recognized the guy's voice, but she couldn't be sure. Still, if Remi was locking lips and being sweetly abashed around him, he couldn't be all that bad.
Another drink of her punch and a gaze around the room (finding Ary and Ahneta as newcomers, and noting with some sort of shock how low and possibly illegal Ahneta's dress was cut), and looked back into Carver's eyes.
"Smell?"
She leaned in sniffing. "... Grapes. You smell like grapes!" Natalie giggled. He smelled faintly sugary and very artificially flavored, but she liked it.
"Well. I'm glad you like it. It was hell organizing it."

"Don't blame me for the grapes," the punk said gloomily, trying to hide his paternal amusement at Remi and the stranger. As long as Remi was comfortable, that was fine, though it made him feel jadedly amused at how old-fashioned he felt. "It was not my idea. I've no earthly fathoming how I was made to do it."

Another sip.
"Something's telling me..." She pursed her blue lips, thinking. "Admon's amazing persuasion techniques. That I'm guessing involve lots of manhandling. And swearing. And..." She leaned in again to try and place the scent. "... Soda? Kool-aid?"
Natalie reached up and tugged on one of the straggling strands of her ponytail. "That's why I went with a wig."

"Blame college theatre," he laughed, "Else I probably wouldn't have come." The outfit was a bit snug now, but his tailor had done alright loosening it up. Angie would have thrown a fit and called him a softie, but he had had a feeling that Remi would be there, and he would take anything as an excuse to see her.

"You can blame my friend Chloe for this outfit," Remi took a sip of the punch, having almost dropped it when Stephan kissed her before. Something tasted slightly funny about it, but she disregarded it in exchange for continuing on with the conversation. "She works for some fashion design company, so she grabbed probably the most elaborate thing she could find just to make me uncomfortable."
Chloe was all for flamboyant costumes where Remi just wanted to fade away into the corner. She didn't like standing out. It made her self-conscious.
"I wasn't planning on going, but then Chloe found the invitation and dragged me here. Well, that and Gavin wanted to dress up too, so I couldn't really say no after that."
Gavin was off being Hawk Man somewhere with the other children. She'd dropped him off much earlier, before getting into her own costume. Considering she hadn't seen the other children in a while, she figured they all must be having a good time.

"Admon wanted to come; I suppose it's his swan song," the purple punk said gloomily, having outed himself with Natalie. "He'll be leaving, I think. He has that certain look about him. God knows where he got the kool-aid idea from; I'm panicking about being the Peculiar Purple Pieman for the rest of the week. I do hope this washes out."
He rubbed the back of his neck. "So the children are here as well?"

"It should, I think. Just use good shampoo." Yet another sip, and Natalie caught herself pondering how fun the sound 'oo' was to say. "He's leaving? Oh. I mean - I'm glad, I suppose, but he is an old friend of yours. Er. Odd friendship, though."
She smiled, gesturing with her head down a hallway off of the main school lobby. "In one of the classrooms, having their own mini party."

"How adorable," Carver said, the world's most unlikeliest punk, and he smiled: "And I'm afraid that no matter what happens, Admon and I will be attached to one another forever. It's a two-for-one deal, I think. I just have to spend my entire existence apologising for him."

"Hmmm..." She pursed her lips, thinking. "I'd say that you didn't need to apologize to me, but something tells me that you still would. That right?" Natalie giggled and tugged at one of the pieces of kelp twined in her wig. "So, how did you two meet, anyway?"

Ari had dropped Ina off in the room where the other children were and left her with affectionate words of encouragement. The purple toddler didn't seem to need it though. She seemed rather thrilled to be in a costume. She was wearing a outfit of an indian, with feathered headband and beaded fabrics and everything. It fit oddly well with her ears and tail, unlike if she had tried to be something else which might have make her look like she was trying to be too things. She stood on the balls of her feet, peering round the room openly with golden eyes to see who was about. Her ears perked with curiousity and remained forward confidently.

Finally, Gavin could be like his idol.
He had spent the last thirty minutes or so strutting around in what he thought was the coolest costume ever. Except that in actuality it looked quite hideous. Remi had relented and let him go as Hawk Man, much to her distaste. Therefore, Gavin sported a wig of long, spiky blue hair which he swished around just to see it move. His arms were covered with camoflauge sleeves that ended at his shoulders, leaving his tiny chest bare. His bottom half was adorned with pants in the same camoflauge. After much work and paper mache, Remi had fashioned a beak for him.
Though he looked quite strange, Gavin believed himself to be the most awesome person in the room. Who could beat a hero costume?
Getting tired of strutting, he noticed a very familiar tail swishing around the other toddlers. She had very familiar ears too.
"Ina!" Gavin darted over to her, trying to launch himself into a hug like always.

Ina squeeked as suddenly something strange jumped at her and began to squeeze her into an embrace. For a minute she was stiff, her ears quivering, before she was able to place the voice with her accute hearing and...place his smell. Did she always know Gavin had had a smell? Wierd. She hugged him back with a giggle, though she winced slightly as she worked around his funny beak on his face, "GAVIN!" Her tail began to wag happily and she grinned widely.

After Gavin had gotten his fix of fluffy goodness, he finally let go. At first he was distracted by her tail. It was so swooshy, just like his wig. He would have started making his hair swoosh too, but that required a lot of head shaking which just made him dizzy.
"What is Ina?" he asked her excitedly, staring at the various indian paraphenelia--not that he knew it was indian, of course. Whatever it was, it was sure pretty. And it had a feather. Feathers made everything pretty.

"I'm a indian!" Ina chirped brightly with a twirl. Her mommy had told her stories about indians. They did all sorts of cool stuff! They lived in the woods and they rode horses and talked with spirits and danced around fires! It had sounded like so much fun! She wished she could do that stuff. Dressing like an Indian was the next best thing! She paused to oogle at his costume, especially his blue wig. After gawking for a bit she asked, "What you....?"

"He was a friend of my wife's," Carver said absently, eyes fixed on the mid-distance, somewhere with the kelp that Natalie was twiddling. "I mean, I met my wife when we were young; but then she went off for a while, and came back with Admon in tow. I suppose he's like a parasite. Anyway, from then on, I'm afraid we were rather a trio. - Does that help? I'm sorry, that sounds dreadfully vague. It seems so long ago that I was nineteen."
