Pf, the Crusades were to protect the Holy Land from the Muslim heathens. ninja
But seriously, some of them -were- to make it safer to pilgrimige to the Holy Land. At least in part. Now, the other part was to kill heathens, and loot and pillage, but part of it was to make it safer for pilgrims. sweatdrop

Ah, but that was never supposed to be the church's job. That's the job of the government and the military.
I see your point, but i have to argue. Christians where charged with spreading and living the gospel, nothing more. Hell if we were, my approach to this whole pro life thing would be a lot different. If the catholic church were more concerned about it's ministry and not about if it could explore some village in the desert, it would have done far better.

The government actually turned to the church I think.
All the lords were fighting amongst themselves and the Church gave them a unified battle.
No excuse, but a reason. It worked to their advantage, too...how convenient. stare

yeah, the crusades were, for the most part, a fight for power and control using God to justify it... sort of like the crap going on in isreal/palestine
