Lahn Rook stood before the mirror in his guest room he had rented and adjusted his hat, made of black velvet and sporting a long silver feather. It matched his black velvet shirt with silver lining.
"The hat indeed makes the man." He smiled as he said to himself. There was a knock at his door. "The others are waiting for you, sir." came a young voice. "In a moment, lad." he replied and gathered his instrument, a silver tin whistle, from atop his bed.
Lahn opened his door and locked it behind him as he entered the hall. People were already starting to gather below for the celebration. Lahn smiled as he passed by patrons and made his way behind the stage. The other musicians and bards hired sat and talked, a group were playing some dice game for money.
"You're late.. uh... what's your name?" came a gruff voice from behind him. "The name is Rook, and I arrived precisely when I meant to. I see no reason to have arrived any earlier, these other fine fellows are having a splendid time." Lahn smiled. "You know what was agreed, we play them together.. ha.. harmonious like. It's tricky to get the lot of you to do it. You only listen to yourselves play and no one else. That means practice. Got it, feather head?"
Lahn repressed a remark about the feather and simply made a short bow before turning back to the others. "As you wish."

And It was such a pity for Lahn that just as he set out to play there was a wizz in the air that was followed by several screams. And laying sadly at Lahns feet was half of a once elegant silver feather- no dought it was once a gryphons... As assassins dropped into place all around the ball room the majority of the bards did what they did best, lead people into finding safety, after all a flute wasn't much of a weapon... And yet there still sat that sad, lonley little feather...

((OOC: Club, I am taking some liberties with Peep here... I know he's a PC but it'll be one time I swear rolleyes ))
Peep quickly drew out two of his self-crafted wands and threw himself into battle with his fathers. An assassin's blade sliced thickly down one arm and Peep staggered behind a crow-warrior with a hiss of pain, nearly dropping the Wand of Sound Burst. He fumbled with one hand for a moment and cursed to himself before simply casting a heal spell rather than searching for his Wand of Cure Light Wounds.
Dirk had noticed his eldest son's damage and with the slightest motion after beheading a sniper, sent Kage to find his other child and protect the half-fey fox-boy. Kage, the shadow lord, obeyed his master and sped through shadow to the darkness outside, finding Elly and Sarya covered in mud. His attention was only on the fox-boy, however.
"Come," the shadow lord whispered to Elly. "You mussssst be kept ssssafe..."
((OOC: Kage had a hiss, didn't he? eek Ah well, I hope so.))

((OCC: sok, as a DM you get to dmg characters as you see fit. and yes, kage does hiss, actully each lord speaks differently, its how dirk can tell them apart if it wasn't for the phsyic link))
Elly jolted, eyes rimmed with tears that he quickly hid. "K-kage, don't startle me like that....I might have attcked you." But despite his words he still clutched tightly to his cousin that still glowed red, sending out ellys shadow long and thin. "....Sary won't wake up.." He muttered to himself, biting his lower lip. "We can't leave."
It was only as he felt a strong arm wrap around his waist he understood that he did not have a choice in this matter. "KAGE NO!" he flailed, still trying his best to hold onto Sarya. "Massster sssaid." Kage insisted, taking Dirks orders as too litteral at times. Besides, the crow girl had gaurds of her own that would allow elly to be skined alive. Standing tall with elly draped over one of his insubstinantal black arms he shook him gently to make him release his hold on the little mortal girl. He wouldn't be able to shadow jump with elly attached to her like that without the chance that he might 'clip' a few limbs off her as the portal between the shadow plane and the material plane closed. "...Ellylone.." He wrasped annoyed. See, this is why the shadow lords hated babysitting duty..

((Whee~ Wow, they aren't even gonna get to the forest this time. xd ))
As Elly grasped at Sarya, his nails scratched her arm and a wave of brilliant green-hued magic burst around her and Sarya jerked upward, gasping. She groaned and clutched her head painfully.
"I'm here~!" sang a woman loudly, showing up from around a corner with a sexy smile that would be a grin were it any less seductive. Her snazzy red dress molded along the curves of her moderate form, revealing that she was here for the party. Over her shoulder was a small black bag that looked odd against her party attire. "Fashionably late, just like I'm supp... eh?" She gave a confused look at the shadow lord and small children. Her long, pointed ears twitched and the expression on her pale face darkened a little, still incredibly hot.
"And what," she finished breathily, "have I found, here?"

Kage gripped elly possesively, turning his body away from the woman with a deep hiss. "Dragonessss!" He took a few steps back, showing his possesive nature over the boy in his arms. "You have no reassson or rhythm here." Elly grinned. "Sary, your ok!" his tail swished happily. He grinned despite the arrival of the strange woman. "And you were glowy!" He laughed, over joyed that his cousin wasn't dead as he had feared her to be. "Be gone!" Kage snapped, he hated shadow dragons...them and leaving there crap all over the shadow plane...

"Oooo, it's shiny!" the dragoness' shadow-filled eyes glued to Sarya, who stiffened, feeling for Blankie. Interested, the woman dropped her sack and began rummaging through it, speaking to the shadow lord cheerfully. "I want it! Trade me."
"AHHH!" Sarya squeaked tearfully, flinging herself at Kage and Elly. "I'm not a toy!"
Completely ignoring her, the dragoness began flinging things out of her sack carelessly. Out went a silver longsword, a whip with rubies in the hilt, a slightly torn royal tapestry, a gleaming knight's helm... the items seemed to just pour out of the bag, landing in various places all over the open courtyard. One item, a wooden box with small symbols in various places, tumbled and skittered to land just in front of Elly, Sarya, and Kage.
((OOC: Maeth, join in the action! razz Kill someone with your whistle or come dig through the dragoness' stuff for a new feathered hat xd ))

He just stared at it for a while. Lying there, slowly gathering dust from all the commotion. As a patron fled past it would weakly take to the air and land a few meters away.
His half feather.
Lahn wasn't one to get sentimental about possessions but this was a direct attack to his style. Frankly, he was a little put off by it.
Finally he looked up and around. A bunch of people seemed to be in a struggle with what appeared to be assassins.
"What's going on here!?" asked the gruff man who was currently half crouched behind a trunk.
Lahn spared him a glance, "Entertainment." Then he bolted off and up the stairs. As he reached the top level where is room was located, one of the black garbed warriors lept in front. Lahn stopped.
"Hello." Lahn said, and drew a dagger lightly, "You may begin." The assassin charged and made to lunge straight at the bard, who stepped aside for the exception of one foot. His attacker stopped inches from it. "I'm afraid I shall not see thee again." And Lahn gave him a hard push down the stairs.
Lahn was already unlocking his door when the tumbling stopped.

((How greatly amusing. Hmm...))
Noticing what looked to be easier prey than the spell-flinging healer, shadow-dancing thing, and double-bladed squirrell-aided ranger, a group of assassins leapt up after the half-fey bard. The one who tumbled smoothly down the stairs managed to stand and follow after landing on a wider step and regaining his balance. A few thrown daggers peppered the air around Lahn and the assassins were happy to fight.
