I've had a library card since I was a little kid when my mom brought me there every week. I don't have enough money to buy every book that catches my eyes....which is a lot. Instead, I just check them out from the library first and if I really fall head over heels for it I go out and buy it from the store.

Even though I prefer to buy books because it's more hygiene, I do borrow books from the library. I used to buy a lot of books but lately, I've realized it's a waste of money so I try to borrow them at the library. whee

I get 5 books every two weeks. Except not last week last week I only got two because A)these will take longer to read than the usual ones B)I knew I was going to be busy will halloween C)someone checked out the books I was going to read and D)hygiene; we've got swine flu in town and I wanted to lower the risk since my immune system is weak.

I go to the library all the time. When i lived in India, we had a really good little library, and now that i'm back in the States, i'm too broke to buy new books. Also, my city has a great central library.

I normally borrow books from the library when there is a book I can't really find or I don't have the money to get the book brand new. The only problem is that I sometimes keep the book longer than the due date and I have to pay a large late fee. redface

The public library is a ten minute walk from my house, and I visit frequently. It's not well stocked, but it has a system with which you can order books from other libraries in the district. They're not well stocked, either, but it adds a little bit of variety. I don't have the money to buy books, unless they're from thrift stores or library sales.

Avenged7X13 My budget simply does not comply with my reading needs. If I didn't go the library, I'd be spending at the minimum $200 a month on books. I practically live at the library!! same here biggrin

I got into a phase the past year where I just bought books, but out of financial interests, I've gone back to using the library. (Also, I still books sitting on my shelf that I bought that I haven't read yet.) I recently got a card to a nearby city's library...and it is awesome. It's amazing what a bigger budget can do. xD So much more selection than my local library, in books, movies, and music. Love it!

I only go to the library to find a book that is out of print or I can only find online. Like when I wanted to read Carnie Wilson's autobiographies, since they're not in stores, I got them from the library. But, for any book that I can find in a store, I like to own it and have my own copy so I can do what I want with it and take my time reading it without getting a fine. Besides, I don't pay for my books, my mommy does =). I also use the library for books for schoolwork, since I know I won't keep them past 3 weeks and I don't wanna waste money on books I won't read again. And I get some CDs from the library, but they don't have a lot of current stuff at my public library, so normally I just get CDs from there if I'm in the mood for older stuff or soundtracks to musicals or something, which I'm slowly getting into...haha.

Haha, it's not even funny how much I use the library- mine has a thing to where you can order books from other libraries, which is awesome! All the staff know me, like personally and I even have a job offer when I turn at the working age(which is totally awesome). I also can try out new-but-not-well-known-books there because, bookstores don't carry those alot, even though they are completely amazing!

My trips there tend to be sporadic at best. I'm a huge supporter of libraries but I prefer to have my books "on call" when I need them. But I do adore that I can go there to 'test' books I'm not sure I want to buy for myself, or to read a book that is too expensive to buy just at the moment so that I can satisfy the urge to read and save up to buy the book once it's cheaper.
Before I acquired income of my own though... Oh the afternoons I spent in those wonderful buildings. I don't like to read in libraries (I'm terribly picky about my reading enviroment) but I still adore walking the shelves, looking for hidden gems. In fact, even though I spend far more time in thrift shops and used bookstores I judge a town or city's liveability by how big, well stocked and accessable the nearest library is.

Lately my book-buying binges haven't been altogether successful ventures as finding books that I really like so I am planning to make use of the public library more often than I currently am. That way I can use my limited shelf space for what I definitely wish to own.
If I can't find a book through ILL, I will write down the title for later reference. If a second search at a future date fails to produce results, I may look into acquiring a secondhand copy for a discounted price.
