XD I remember the days of getting lightheaded playing flute. I haven't had that problem since fifth grade, though. My best friend's a percussionist, and she nearly passed out trying to play my flute. ^^;; Then again, she nearly passed out blowing across the top of a straw while we were trying to "tune" it for a math project.

Ehheh! The good ole days when I used to get dizzy from playing the flute. That hasn't happened recently, well except for when I was playing this summer after being away and not touching it for 2 and a half months. Lasted only about an hour... and I got used to it again... eck.. We were babysittiong one of the Sophmore's flutes... and my friend (as well as a percussionist) was trying to play it and she was complaining about the lightheadedness herself.

Woo! The choir's singing a song that has a flute part, and my BD's having me play it! ^^ There's twenty flutes in the band, too, so I was surprised I got picked. (Then again, I'm part of the core group of the self-proclaimed "band geeks," and we're usually the ones who get solos just because we practice so much, so maybe it's not that surprising. ^^;; ) I like the piece. It's pretty, and not terribly difficult.

Yay! Congrats! I'd never get picked for something like that 'cause miss first chair flute is a teacher's pet. Grrrr *anger rising and lowering*
Um, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, 'cause I still get lightheaded after playing my flute. I also am really out of breath. Sad. Apparently nobody who's in charge of anything likes flutes. sad May hates flutes, the orchestra director hates flutes, and the director of the play hates flutes. He added an oboe to our flute quartet for some reason or another. Now it's not a flute quartet anymore. Oh well, at least I like oboe girl.

Hehe, thanks, you guys! Keltzy Yay! Congrats! I'd never get picked for something like that 'cause miss first chair flute is a teacher's pet. Grrrr *anger rising and lowering* Um, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, 'cause I still get lightheaded after playing my flute. I also am really out of breath. Sad. He added an oboe to our flute quartet for some reason or another. Now it's not a flute quartet anymore. Oh well, at least I like oboe girl. Man, it's times like this I'm glad our band is so informal. We don't do chair assignments in our band. The BD just kind of lets us decide things amongst ourselves and every once in a while chooses people for solos if it's not clear-cut who should have it like it usually is. But anyway, how long have you been playing flute? And how long does it take you to get lightheaded? I've been playing for six years, and every once in a while I get lightheaded when there's a song where we NEVER get a chance to take more than a quarter note worth of breath (case in point: Back in Black). But really, it rarely happens anymore, for me at least. And I think it's hilarious that you referred to the oboe player as "oboe girl," 'cause I do the same thing. XD Whenever I'm talking to people who would have no idea who I was talking about if I used names, I refer to people as "oboe girl" or "tenor guy" or "drummer girl." XDDD

I was having issues today, after sectionals (since we had a double block only play for half of it) (Double block is two 40 min, periods) my band director (<3 to him for being so cool about it) let me take out the altoflute. Oi how much air those things need to play a piece... but it was fun.
@Keltzy: Ack... that's horrible your band is like that, our band has seating but it's rather lax right now (I am supposed to be a highchair second flute or low chair first flute) and I sit next to the oboes since my friend (the oboe) he was like we should sit next to eachother. So yea. And, it really does depend on how long you've been playing, a tip to build up endurance so that wont happen as often, try holding a note as long as you can, also tons and tons of extra practice helps as well.

Hmmm I sometimes get lightheaded durring marching band. That piccolo man. o.O I've been playing picc. for... about five years now and I still have the most difficult time with high b-flat. I can hit the b just fine and about 85% of the time I can get the c.. but not that darn b-flat.
Ick. I always hated seating auditions. I get so nervous when I have to play in front of everyone and then I royally screw up. >< Thats what challenges are for though. biggrin

Our school's rather interesting. Seating is according to seniority, not playing ability. that really bothers me, but then sophomore year, I was 4th chair, and then the three seniors above me left, and I was left first chair for so long.....playing piccolo means I do what I want.
By the way, do any of you guys give lessons? I start teaching next week and I don't know what I should be teaching them. The way I taught lessons last year totally sucked....
