Durza the Shade I have one of those brushes; it came with my new clarinet. So since I use it, I don't have an alternate solution, sorry. Actually, I think I remember a senior my freshman year telling me that soaking it in vinagar works. I wouldn't get it on the cork, though. But wouldnt you be able to taste the vinegar in the mouthpiece? I dont know whats worse, the taste of vinegar or a dirty mouthpiece.

I'm kinda need help for my flute. My flute has little strings that look like cobwebs that I need to get out of. But the one that concerns me most is there there's these black spots on my flute. I asked my friend about it and she had her teacher check it out. But then I forgot what to do for it. It's been starting to form ever since this year. I think my friend said it was a grime spot thing. But do you know how to get rid of it? Or hat to do with it.

Well this has been a very informative and fun thread 3nodding (can't believe i've never seen it before) Sorry I don't have any new tips...all my teachers taught me was to use germicide and cleaning cloths xD so I had to get creative with paper towels and j-cloths on sticks... i do have a couple of questions though...
1. How would I go about cleaning the inside of my (or I should say my school's) wooden clarinet? I suppose it wouldn't be harmful to wet it because it gets wet anyway from spit and moisture... 2. Cobwebs in your flute?!

I have a strings instrument.
I just use a cloth. Not much builds up besides dust and rosin. I think there's a product I could buy to clean it, but my basses (both at home and school) are school instrument, and Pop's Rosin is expensive enough.

Well, now that I have read this, I should probably clean my tuba. It's a school instrument, but that only means it's old. I'm just not sure it'll fit in my bathtub. sweatdrop When I need to clean my mouthpeice, i just have my mom run it through the dishwasher. (It's a plastic one.)

fire_eyez I'd try the thing with the notes, but our cash is polymer over here, not paper. gonk There may be plenty of fish in the sea I don't use money, ((I'm on the euro, it's odd)) But what I do use is cigarette papers. Like, the papers for rolling cigarettes? Place one under the pad, press the pad down and pull it out. it gets rid of gunk, and stops that annoying clicking sound. I sure do get some funny looks when I go to buy them though, coz I am vehemently anti-smoking. Ah well! ((That works for clarinets and flutes, by the way, the guy in the repair shop told me!!)) but who really wants to date a fish?

Cleaning? Why would you want to clean it? Excess build up is like making additions to your instrument, you could experiment with different sounds you could never make before!! :D
