“He’s a master when it comes to keldari.” Kaimana offered quietly as he stood and watched next to Ami and Noelani. “Give it a few more minutes and he’ll have them slithering peacefully away so that we can pass.” Even he still didn’t believe it whenever he saw how easily Kieran handled some creatures, but the beastmaster had years of experience dealing with such things. There was just something about the patient Yaeli that seemingly affected everyone and everything around him, including wild beasts. I really need to learn how to do that. He mused as he watched as the keldari slowly started to return to the shadows away from the passage that they needed to take.

“I knew that he had a way with them since I saw his familiars before, but that was insane.” Noelani whispered as she slowly approached Kieran now that the passage was clear. “We can head out, right?” She asked as she studied the path watching the last of the keldari as it slithered away and back towards the crystal room they had emerged from. “What was even in those crystals you gave them? Those weren’t normal…” At least they weren’t crystals from this particular cave. Could one even have special crystals for keldari?

Kieran chuckled as he listened to Noelani’s questions. “I always have some crystals on hand that have a bit of a dusting of sleeping powder on them.” He admitted quietly with a small smile. “It helps when I have to deal with them a lot back on Yael. I don’t like hurting the keldari but I know it also is hard to pass them without starting a fight, especially in passages like these where they have made a nest.” As for the tune? Well it was something his own daughter had helped him come up with whenever they played with keldari together as she grew up. Aia always loved the melody and would sway around them when the pair hummed it.

“You’re amazing, Kieran.” Nanami whispered after quietly clapping for the performance. “I’ve never seen keldari before, but that was something I won’t forget any time soon!” She promised before laughing at the comment about treasure. Ah, yes! How could she forget? A slight flush decorated her cheeks as she nodded and gestured to the path. “The final right, so here we go.”

“Sheesh, stop showing off so much ole timer.” Kaimana joked as he patted Kieran on the shoulder and started forward. Even he was admittedly impressed since the stunt had saved them from having to fight and risk getting bit by any of the keldari. He would never taunt Kieran’s familiars again, that much was for certain. If anything it made him nervous about exploring Yael one day. If Kieran was so prepared for Keldari that he even brought crystals then how many did he encounter when adventuring through Yael? One too many for my tastes. Acknowledged Kaimana before emerging in the final cavern and forgetting all about the keldari once they saw the chests that lingered throughout the cavern. “I think we did find treasure, yep.”

“Treasure indeed.” Noelani let out a gasp as she walked forward into the room and set to opening a chest. “These coins are strange, but made of gold.” She acknowledged as she held one up in the glowing lights, the gold gleaming despite the dim lighting in the cave. “This alone is enough to pay for a house.” She teased Kaimana before moving to the next chest and opening it, some old jewelry tumbled out and she held out a particular piece towards Nanami. “Pearls, dear? Or would you be more interested in this dagger nestled inside? I can’t believe there’s actual treasure here. Kaimana you did it!” Even if the other chests were mostly empty or full of things that had been taken by the elements and creatures over the years, the first two were plenty enough to make this trip worthwhile!

“There must be some history with these.” Kieran mused as he went towards some of the other crates. This one was packed with rare pottery that he was interested in. “We can study the engravings on these to see what country it may have come from. I don’t really recognize this myself.” He admitted as he held it close, the Yaeli’s gaze narrowing thoughtfully as he tried to read the strange hieroglyphics. Either way it was enough to satisfy him so while the others mused over the gold and gemstones, Kieran found himself surveying the area for anything of historical note and for any potential surprises. Thankfully though it looked like the keldari was the last surprise for them and he let out a relieved sigh once he passed the final chest without triggering anything. “Pick what you can carry then we can see about arranging another visit to this place in the near future, if wanted.”

“Why not both?” Ami smiled sheepishly as she accepted the pearls and allowed Noelani to lace them around her neck. “I suppose this is a good find.” She teased Noelani quietly. “Thank you Kaimana for trusting us to come along on this adventure.” The Kawena added as she glanced over at the Matori while wrapping her arms around her lover. “This definitely will pay for a good vacation, right? Maybe some time to stay in Matori without needing to rush back to Oba.” That would be the dream and then they could enjoy time with the children and work on expanding their own home while Kaimana built his new one. But first to get all of this back to Matori…that’s going to take a little bit. As long as the rest of the crates weren’t full of anything heavy that they wanted to take back maybe one final trip or even this one would be enough…maybe. Nanami pursed her lips thoughtfully but decided it was simply best to enjoy the moment and celebrate with the others instead of jumping into calculations for everything.

“Anytime. Glad you guys decided to trust me enough to tag along.” Kaimana joked even though he was honestly amazed at this find. While the treasure from the ship had been great, this was just as much if not more! Why would anyone have gone through such lengths to hide treasure unless…what if they were running away from someone, hid this and hoped that the decoy treasure on the other ship would be enough? Then the decoy went horribly wrong and they actually lost everything instead in either a bad storm or some fight with the other ship! What a story if so! “Sad that they didn’t get to come back and reclaim this since they lost the ship instead.” Mused Kaimana quietly before walking over to join the others, the Matori placing a silver tiara on Noelani’s head with a grin and picking out a few pieces of jewelry for himself and those back home. He couldn’t wait to bring all of this back and start working on his own home, one that he hoped to share with someone else in the near future whenever they weren’t traveling through more of the world.
