Heather Beauchamp Toss 1: 2 Toss 2: 0 Toss 3: 2 Toss 4: 0
Heather's hubris, it had seemed, had gotten the better of her, for as Icarus, she fell. Instantly deflated as she watched the wreaths fall harmlessly between posts, Heather glanced at Max, no less enthused than before. Had he not noticed that she had missed entirely, or what his faith in her that unshakable? Whatever the reason, he continued his cheerleading while Heather tried to pick up the remains of her pride and try again while simultaneously looking for a plan B since she was probably not going to be winning that stuffed snowman.
Would he like the antlers maybe? If Heather had a matching set, he should be fine, right? She could sell it. She'd sold him on consolation prizes before -- Heather really did have terrible luck at these games. And that's all they really were anyway -- luck.
With that thought, Heather could feel her bruised pride taking over and her moon turning surly. Because of this, she was not able to simply stop either. She thrust the money at the girl one last time -- it was the last dollar she'd set aside for this damned carnival -- and snatched the wreaths from her hands.
Taking a deep breath, Heather tossed the wreaths a fifth and last time.

Heather Beauchamp Toss 1: 2 Toss 2: 0 Toss 3: 2 Toss 4: 0 Toss 5: 1
One.
All she needed was one more successful toss. Then she could get the snowman for her brother and be the best big sister ever.
And one more successful toss was what she made.
For a second, Heather wasn't really sure what had happened. She stared at the wreath as it rested neatly around the rim of the snowman's top hat as though it didn't mean anything. But it did mean something. It meant everything. Heather made a sound of disbelief and Max poked his little head over the counter of the stall before letting out a celebratory whoop.
The girl behind the counter grinned brightly as she handed Heather the snowman. It was softer than Heather had expected, not only because of it's stuffing, but because of the fabric it was made of. Plush fibers knitted into swirls making kind of furry rosettes... Heather only got to marvel at the snowman for a moment before Max snatched it from her with a gleeful shriek and took off with it. Of course, because the snowman was as tall as he was, his getaway was not fast, and soon Heather caught up with him and took his hand.
"Okay Max, let's get home. I'm thinking... hot chocolate for you and your new friend?"
Max nodded eagerly and buried his face in the snowman as he walked home next to the best big sister in the world.

Afton Gracey Had this been a game of chance, Afton might not have opted for giving it a go no matter how much he thought Hart would enjoy some of the prizes. Tiny hats and jingle bell bracelets weren't his ting, but the snowman pillow didn't look too bad and.... There was also the matter of the deer. That was something that looked like it would be right up Hartley's alley, if he didn't already own it. Did he own something like that? Didn't matter. To the booth they went, money in hand, ready to hand it over one bill at a time to see what they came up with between the two of them. "That's one for me.... You going to give it another go?" Clementine Drew 17, 8, 14, 6, 18
It had taken a good chunk of time for Clementine (and her parents, of course, but they hadn't been anywhere near as soaked to the bone as she'd been; there were side effects of being newly fifteen and gawky and still growing, baby fat mostly gone, lanky in a way best described as awkward) to warm up from how cold she had been, to clean the twigs and leaves from her hair and dab salve over the thin scratches on her face, and to change clothes into something much warmer. There had been a short, and mostly undignified, portion where she'd half - dried her hair in a public bathroom with a hand dryer, but honestly, she'd been a lot more undignified in the process of getting it wet; her capacity to really care very much about how nasty her hair was? She would be a nasty gross yeti when she wanted to, and only then and no more.
Ahem. Anyways. She'd gotten her parents to leave her alone (and, as far as Clem was concerned, nowhere near soon enough) and hand her enough money to enjoy herself, because she didn't want to be coddled and convincing her parents to try and salvage a date night out of this whole festival was a trick that worked practically every time. Eugh. Godddd when would they stop being so lovey-dovey with each other??? She knew it was a good thing that their marriage was still in tip - top shape, but, like, she had enough troubles figuring out romance. There was maybe five - maybe ten? - minutes of wandering, distantly grumbling all the while, before she found something she wanted to try.
The Tinsel Ring Toss, at first thought, sounded good. Then Clementine remembered, painfully acutely, that she had absolutely no talent at throwing anything -- Frisbee was a miserable experience, even Wii Sports Frisbee (and hadn't that been a thing to discover at such a tender age; she could admit, now, that it'd been funny, but it hadn't seemed very funny at all when she'd done it and promptly cried for half an hour), and she was pretty sure ring toss was close to frisbee. Was it? That sounded about right. But she had five rings, so that sounded like she probably had a one in five chance of not failing, or something like that, because Clem was god awful at statistics and couldn't have calculated an actual success percentage to save her life.
But, hell, she tried anyways. Five rings! How bad could it be.
It could, in fact, be completely disgusting. At one point she almost managed to hit the girl manning the booth, which sent both of them into a flurry of simultaneous apologies until Clem broke out into a wild coughing fit and dropped her two remaining tinsel rings on the ground. And then she almost stepped on them, which would have really added insult to injury.
In the end, at least, she came away from the booth: slightly poorer, considerably more annoyed than she had been, and secure in her knowledge that she was absolutely disgustingly godawful at ring toss.

Hartley DeereHe'd been a bit surprised when Afton had asked if he wanted to go to the carnival. It was a bit of a silly thing but he'd almost expected Afton to think it was something a little to 'kiddy' for him. Hartley had been glad when he'd asked though, not wanting to go alone and not sure anyone else would have gone with him. It was turning out to be a good day though. The weather was a bit chilly but not too cold and there were plenty of things to do and see at the carnival. "I don't think I'm going to be all that good at it no matter how many goes I give it." Hartley smiled slightly, having completely failed at his first attempt. "You're better at this stuff than I am." Even if he was eying some of the prizes. He didn't need a pillow that looked like a deer head but .... Rings Gathered: 1

Afton Gracey "Maybe you just need to warm up your hands a little before giving it another go?" His brow quirked as he reached over to take hold of Hartley's hands, bringing them up to his lips to puff a breath of warm air over them. He released his friend's hands with a broad grin before handing over another few dollars to give them each another go. "I've got two rings right now and you've got one... Says right there we can combine our tosses at the end, so let's see what prize tier we can get to between the two of us, alright?" It was the way they usually played games-- working together-- at least when they were playing multis. This was no different... Right? Roll 2 // Total Rings Gathered: 2

Hartley DeereHartley was going to pretend that the flush on his cheeks was because of the cold breeze and had nothing to do with Afton's on his. "I'm not entirely sure that's going to help." He managed a soft laugh as he took the next batch of rings he was given. He was pretty sure, given that he knew his hands were shaking a bit, that he wasn't going to be able to do anything with the rings. He was right too. "Hopefully we can get something good, still going to be more of your rings than mine." He smiled, nudging Afton gently before his friend started his turn. Rings Gathered: 2

Afton Gracey "We've got two rings apiece right now-- means we've got enough for the reindeer if that's all you want, but why stop at just one when one of us might get lucky enough to up our skill level enough to do a little better?" His brow quirked as he looked at his friend, obviously focusing more on Hartley than he was the task at hand. Maybe ring toss really wasn't about skill as much as it was the absolute dumbest of luck. Unfortunately, his luck was only dumb on some days. Today it was smart and very much against him. ".... Why don't you give the next set a go?" Roll 3 // Total Rings Gathered: 2

Hartley Deere"Maybe you should really concentrate on your next one?" Hartley managed to snag another ring but he was starting to wonder if the game was rigged somehow. Afton was usually better at skill based games than he was and so he'd expected his friend to do much better. "Not that you're not trying but you're usually better than me. Better hand eye coordination and all." He was good at games but not the same way Afton was. He had to sit on the sidelines a lot when Aft was doing the more complicated things. Rings Gathered: 3

(Seren Yong - 1/5, No Wins)
Seren came across a booth with adorable tinsel wreaths being used as a ring toss game. She glanced at the prizes, and bit her lip, considering her wallet, the price, and the game... And decided she could afford a few rounds. She had gotten some nice Christmas Bonuses from some of her students... well, their parents, mostly... and so she wasn't as strapped for cash as she could be.
She got in line, and waited, eyes bright and curious as she examined each one of the various prizes... She was so hopeful! When it was finally her turn, she bounced on her toes as she handed over her dollar, and got her rings. She eyed the snowmen, as she lined up her first shot... And nope! It bounced off. Not a single one got on, though there were a few near misses, where it looked like it... Then bounced off and landed on the floor.

(Seren Yong - 2/5, 1 Win)
She shrugged and sighed, and forked over another dollar... She was really hopeful, she wanted to get the prize! Also, she felt like this would be good practice for accuracy training, or something. She was slower this time, as she considered the little Snowman Army, and how close each one was to the snowman besides it. She tossed her first shot, biting her lip as she did. The ring... brushed the snowman's hat but kept going. She made a soft, frustrated sound under her breath, and lined up her next shot. This one looked like it was going to go on but... it banged the snowman NEXT to the one she aimed for, and just slid down instead. The next two shots were similarly close but not quite...
And then her final shot hit. She made a happy sound, bouncing on her shoes, and beamed at the girl running the stall. "Can I have the top hat with the silver star, please?" Her eyes were glittering in excitement.

(Seren Yong - 3/5, 5 Wins)
Seren decided to do more... One win was nice, but it would be lovely, she felt, if she could keep going. There was no reason NOT to, she had decided she could afford five bucks for the game, and she did like all the prizes... So she handed another dollar to the young woman, and took her next five tinsel rings. She was feeling good about herself, after getting one on... Not prideful, just pleased she had succeeded!
She lined up her first shot and... It went right on. Her eyes went wide, and she tried again... And again. All five shots went on, in fact, and her jaw just dropped in excitement and surprise. She turned to the woman, and said "Sn...Snowman plush, please?"

Seren grinned wide and handed over her fourth dollar... She had managed five in a row, which she suspected was some kind of miracle, but maybe she could manage more? She had to keep trying. Unfortunately for her, this was not such a lucky round... No matter how hard she tried, every throw, every angle, seemed to just completely fail to get her where she needed the ring to be. She sighed and shrugged... she HAD managed an amazing run the previous time, after all!

Seren handed the young woman her final dollar she had decided to reserve for this, and began to toss her rings. She only managed to get two on this time, but in her opinion, two was perfect! She had won, and won a fair number of times, and even gotten the biggest prize of them all. She smiled and asked for one jingle bell bracelet and one pair of Reindeer Antlers. She put her various prizes in her bag... other then the huge Snowman, who was too big for it... and headed off, a bright smile of pride and happiness on her face.
