Without looking it up, what comes to mind when you hear "Moyamoya"?: When I hear the word MoyaMoya, honestly even after reading everything you've posted about it, I still think that it's these young kids getting super excited over a yummy treat that they get so rarely called "Moyamoya" so they are bouncing and yelling "Moyamoya! It's time for MoyaMoya!" What disease/illness/syndrome has affected your family the most? : Depression. It's a daily struggle to keep myself going most days, but, I do try to find one positive thing in each day. What is an Orphan Disease?: It is a disease where so few people in the world have it. I think the number is like less then a couple hundred thousand. They can be caused by any number of things, from genetics to enviromental issues.

Disease Name:Distal Myopathies How rare is it?: 1-9 in a million Summarize what it's like: Early adult onset or late adult onset specific form of distal muscular dystrophy. Mostly caused by mutation in several protein related genes. With distal myopathy its the degeneration of the muscles starting in the distal limbs (feet or arms) and progressively moves inward to the shoulders, hips, etc. With my family we have two mutations, a sub form of Weilander and then we have a mutation that starts in the 20s/30s that progresses quickly and starts to affect the diaphram/lungs/respiratory functioning.
