Adrian couldn't help an amused smile that graced his slightly aged features when Nell gave a curtsy in return to his own bow. Already he could tell he would enjoy her company immensely. At the mention of her own Raevan, the Brit followed her gesture towards the other darkly clad Frei Cordelia was interacting with. Ah, how serendipitous that they would be meeting one another for the first time just as their charges were as well. "Guilty, I was somewhat tempted. Don't let the grey hairs fool you, I move a lot faster than one would think."
At Reuben's approach, he accepted the younger man's hand and gave it a firm shake. "Mister Rothmore, a pleasure to make your acquaintance once again. Cordelia and I are doing well for the most part, thank you. Keeping busy with a new venture, our very own shop to be precise." Adrian's happy expression fell for a moment at the mention of his daughter. "Ah, yes, Ebony is still missing unfortunately. But, the police have found a lead in Durem. Someone matching her description was seen wondering the woods about the time she'd disappeared. So I have great hope this will lead to her being located finally."
To the introduction of Reuben's own Raevan, Adrian brightened again and looked the mushroom boy over. He really had to suppress the want to make a fungi/fun guy joke then, cause obviously that was too much a dad joke even for him. If only Ebony had been there to scold him with a look. Alas, "He is not exactly how I had imagined, but I suppose they never are. Nonetheless, he seems wonderful. Congratulations!"
With a shrug, "Nah, I wouldn't say that. I'm sure you'll both tire of me soon enough Aadi. Oh, I hope it's okay that I call you that?" Though Cordelia was trying to act humble, she couldn't help wanting to show off a bit for these younger Freis. She wanted them to like her, needed them to. She was a lot lonelier than she cared to admit, even to herself.
It wasn't until then that she noticed that Dair seemed a bit...preoccupied? His gaze kept wandering towards the sea. Was there something out there in the ocean? Squinting and looking out beyond the hot sand, the Basilisk couldn't make out anything of interest. Only boring old water as far as the eye could see. She would have asked what he was looking at if she hadn't been side tracked by Aadhira's gentle pat and question.
"Uh well, let's see..." the snake quickly searched the surrounding areas for something that the colorful peacock could borrow. Since she couldn't go in the water, neither her nor Adrian had bothered packing any sort of floatation devices. Otherwise she would have just let him borrow one. The sight of a group of humans (her granddad being part of them) and a beach ball sparked another bout of mischievous grinning from her dark lips. No...she couldn't...could she? She really shouldn't be a bad example for these younger Raevans and yet...where was the fun in that?
Pointing towards Nell, Dair's guardian unbeknownst to her, Cordelia asked slyly, "How about a beach ball?"

Vesna laughed. "There's way more anime than Dragonball Z, Zeke!!" she admonished. She opened her mouth to rattle off a list, but when he mentioned the food she'd brought, she turned sheepish again. "Ah, well.... Maybe later?" She pouted a little. "You know I was on a team with Cesc when we had to find all those fel essences, right?? And he showed me his instagram and all, and I thought maybe I could try to bake something cute, too, but it just... Didn't come out right! That's okay, though, isn't it? I mean, if everyone could bake really well, we wouldn't have bakeries..." She scrunched up her face and added, "It's still frustrating, though!! The tutorial made it look so easy!"
If Zeke was concerned, Vesna didn't notice. "Anya'll probably like Eden, then! Eden's super fashionable."
She grinned at her best friend, and nodded. "Yup! Well, first I had to give it to Xiu. I traded it for a high five, then he traded it for, like, the balance of life and death or something?? I guess it makes sense, though. I mean, gods probably get bored, too, you know? Plus," she pointed out, "My 3DS case was very cute. And it already came with games, and 3DS games are pretty expensive." Xiu, who had had to replace all of them, knew this firsthand.
She startled as Raz snuck up on Zeke, when she caught her breath, she gasped. "Raz!!" she squealed. Raz was probably the coolest guardian she had ever met, and the only human she had ever met whose hair was pinker than Eden's. "Hi Raz! Hi Solo! What've you guys been up to?" ____________________________________
Lorenzo nodded curtly. "It would be good for Aadhira and Vesna to have the chance to get acquainted later. It anything, they could keep each other company in case we ever have to drag them to a conference."
He smiled at Ian. "I've been meaning to place an order, but I won't talk business today. I'm actually forbidden to. Vesna says I've been overworking myself lately, and maybe she's right-- needs must, though." He furrowed his brow. "I think Vesna has an Instagram. I find it unlikely that she has a YouTube channel. She's become more self-sufficient recently, what with my schedule. I only vaguely know what she's interested in now, but I'm sure it's much the same as usual. She's been studying a little necromantic theory, too, but only because one of her friends is." He laughed. "If I'd known it was that easy to get her to apply herself, I would have tried it a long time ago."
He rubbed his neck. "The last Lab gathering- it's hard to believe that was Vesna's first real outing." He laughed. "What a disaster it turned out to be! I nearly had to resurrect a man on the spot." He fell silent for a moment, perhaps contemplating all the things that could go wrong on a beach, and cleared his throat, looking slightly pale. "Still, I'm sure today will be fine."
Sam listened to the way Reuben talked about Ryder, smiling in a knowing way. She knew this speech, she often spoke of her chargers like this. It always exciting to have a new creature to take care of and these Raevans were no different. As more appeared she marveled at how they all looked so different, each displaying some traits of the soul they were given and the essence. It made her think as to what her child would one day look like. At his question she smiled, "Oh it's been a hoot. One of the possums had her babies so we've got little fuzz balls climbing all over her at the moment. Poor mama, she just waddles about with about ten babies attached to her."
At his question about Volleyball she nodded and smiled, following him down to the beach. "Oh sure! Love a good game! Should be quite fun!" she grinned as she reached into her ever present backpack and pulled out some leather straps to pull her hair back and tie it down. "Must tame this mess first, otherwise I'll trip over it."
As the walked Reuben seemed to meet some other people, introducing Ryder to them. She looked at the Frei now that he was closer, marveling at his appearance and his ability to....fly?.....float? She couldn't tell really. His coloring was amazing, something she'd only ever seen in rainbows by a waterfall. It took a few minutes but she finally managed to pull her tail into a manageable tie. "Alright, ready for sand diving!" she chuckled. "Also hello to you Ryder, I'm Sam."

As a few introduced themselves Sven realized that, hey, names were a thing.
"Ah, I'm Sven. Sven Beyer." He raised his hand to give a small, sheepish wave, immediately sticking his hands back into his pockets, shoulders drawing up and a leg bending as he listened to the ongoing's. His phone buzzed softly in his pocket and he reached for it, giving it a quick once over. Of course, his editor. Whistling faintly to himself, he tossed the offending phone into one of his discarded shoes. That could wait. Probably. Maybe.

LuLu stifled a yawn as the volleyball game pressed on. Everyone involved looked to be having a stellar time. Nonetheless, the rabbit had grown tired of floating in place and observing. It was time to change locales.
She gave a hesitant glance back to the BBQ stand. It was one of the few places she had passed by earlier. The sigel noticed a few familiar faces hanging around the grill and tables now. The idea of joining them provided just enough motivation to spur her through the thick miasma of grilled meats. LuLu fought off the odor the best she could by breathing through her mouth. She waved to everyone but singled out the familiar faces of Xiu and Eden with a warm smile. "Hello."

"More than okay!" She was suddenly so shy about having brought something; it was entirely too cute! "No matter how it looks I bet it tastes delicious. And hey, you said Lorenzo tried some last night right? I'd take the fact he hasn't died yet as a damn good sign. Trust me, when I started I could barely cook at all to the point where I'm pretty sure I gave one of my friends food poisoning." He paused to consider - had it been a friend or had it been himself? Or both? Either way the aftermath of trying to replicate one of his mom's recipes from memory had consisted of a lot of vomit and put him off cooking anything other than his "safe" foods for a long, long time. "But hey, look at me now! They put me as one half in charge of feeding you all!"
He grinned. As if on cue a small lick of flame shot up from the coals and appeared with a hiss of dripping fat but just as quickly faded.
"Well, I know you guys can't exactly eat-eat like humans can but hey if either of you want to try something, Laz and I will be happy to serve you!"
He pointed toward the food tables.
"And if you look over there we already have a bunch of stuff set out if you're curious about potato salad or the like. We even have a--AHH!"
Suddenly there was something COLD against the side of his face and it sent him jerking with a startled cry and a slapped hand to the offended spot. With a whirl he came face to face with the luminously devious grin of Raz who was holding a can of something-something out in one hand.
"Why you!!! C'mere!"
With a laugh he pulled the pink-haired devil into a big bear hug, picking her up off her feet for good measure.
"You're an a**, you know that right?" He whispered the words in her ear so as not to offend young ears before setting her down on the sand again, pecking her once on the cheek. "Not nice!" Zeke declared more loudly for all to hear, and made sure to put his hands on his hips while pulling off his best 'sorely offended' face. He even threw in a toe tap to top it all off.
Vesna greeting Raz and her ward brought Zeke's eyes to the big, burly Akhlut. Remembering the boy's reaction the first - and thus far LAST - time he'd seen Anya, he hoped he was another one who wouldn't be disappointed by the current lack thereof of the Widow. Zeke raised a hand in greeting and offered another smile.
"What's good Solo? Been a long while buddy!" He looked just as embarrassed by his Guardian as ever.
"I see you guys have met Vesna! How about Eden? Eden, Raz and Solo. Raz and Solo, Eden! And over there we have Lazarus and Xiu. And I think that's everyone..."
He trailed off when a new face approached and it was most definitely new for him! The rabbit-eared Sigel was a beauty to behold and when she offered a greeting he was quick to return one.
"Hello there! Nice to see you dropped on by to the party! I'm Zeke, and I'm afraid in all the years I've been with the Lab we haven't met Miss...?"

"I do find myself concerned with him getting bored while I'm occupied with work," she admitted. "Aadhira seems... easily distracted, so having them entertain each other might be good. Of course-" Jannisari nodded towards Ian. "Eden is welcome, as well." Friends were an important part of any young thing's growth, she thought, even if she found more time herself for those she considered colleagues. Dual purposes, perhaps.
"Aadhira has an instagram." He was far too lazy for anything like maintaining a youtube account, but there were things Jannisari would not admit to other company because of how they reflected. "Do you suppose Vesna will attempt to follow in your steps and become a necromancer herself?" She tapped her fingers thoughtfully on her thigh.
Dr. Jannisari hadn't been a part of the Lab for their last outing and knew nothing of it. Aadhira didn't wish to talk about it and, as long as it wasn't causing any issues, she saw no reason to press him. "Are all the outing so... eventful as that one, Mr. Fischer?" Jannisari sounded less than pleased at the thought.

Eden had been busy texting away on her phone and editing a new Instagram post as best she could with the glaring sun. There was a certain mischief in her eyes behind her trendy sunglasses and in the curve of her mouth. But when she heard Vesna say her name again, she hurriedly locked the device and looked back up at the crowd. LuLu had joined the fray, prompting a welcoming grin from the nymph as she waved to her fellow fashionista.
"Hey LuLu! Oh my gosh, you look so cute! How's it--" Suddenly another newcomer arrived in a flurry of activity, making Eden float back just a bit. Her wings fluttered and she couldn't hide the 'what the heck' purse of her lips as Zeke and his fellow fluorescent-haired friend wrestled. She was shadowed by yet another Raevan, this one perhaps the most monochrome one she had met do date. Reks was mostly shades of gray, sure, but this guy was straight out of an old-timey movie--slicked back pompadour and everything. She had to admit, though... his look was intriguing.
"Nice to meet you," she murmured when she was introduced. She flipped her hair over her shoulder and toyed with the pendant around her neck. There were so many people here, definitely more than last year's gathering. She felt her phone vibrate in her hand and her rune pulsed with it, but she ignored the alert for now.

Ian's brows raised over his sunglasses. "Oh? Well, you're free to call or stop by anytime. I'm sure Eden would love to entertain Vesna while we talk business," he chuckled. He always felt a bit torn about putting together bouquets for Lorenzo and his clients. He knew it was necessary and every florist had to do funeral work from time to time, but it never failed to depress him. At the very least, it did motivate him to make the arrangements spectacular.
"And yeah, a group gathering sounds like a great idea. I'm sure they'd all be inseparable." He smiled over at Eden and Vesna, where the group was causing a bit of a commotion. It was probably ridiculous, but his heart had jumped a little at the noise. The lingering memories of last year and the halloween gathering even before that had left him a bit jumpy.
He made a hesitant face, taking a slow breath through his teeth. "Well, in my experience, most of the time. Before last year, there was a halloween gathering with quite the--supernatural maze. There was combat involved and everything..."
Lazarus considered for a moment of Xiu relieving his horrid shirt. His possessive side kicked in a little bit, telling him that no! No one should see Xiu topless aside from himself. Then again, his logical side told him that it is completely fine for a dude to be topless at a beach. And since he don't want to sound like a possessive boyfriend in such a public setting...
"It's fine if you take off the shirt. There are plenty of topless guys on the beach." Although his tone doesn't sound as enthusiastic as it should.
Once the steak had rested, he began to slice it. Thin slices smaller than a quarter of an inch thick. His knife work was confident and clean, although not as swift as professional chefs. "Here." He offered, picking up a quarter of the sliced steak with the knife and fork and dumping it into Xiu's plate. "I hope you'll enjoy." He smiled before turning to the crowd before him. "FRESH TRI TIP STEAK, HOT OFF THE GRILL!!!" He shouted, catching the crowd's attention. "I only lightly seasoned it with sea salt and pepper, no extra additives. Even a Frei could eat this if they only eat a few slices." Lazarus continue on to explain. But of course, it is up to the Frei whether they want to eat or not of course.

Well, the cat’s out of the bag now… thought Xiu when he heard Vesna animatedly recounting the incident with the Death God. Truth be told though, perhaps it was a good thing. One less secret to keep at any rate.
Glancing back to his boyfriend, Xiu gave Lazarus a perplexed look. The fiery one seemed less than enthusiastic on the notion that the offending shirt be removed in public. Apparently Laz wasn’t keen on him joining the ranks of the topless males strutting along the sands. Which did not worry Xiu overmuch. The offer had been made in jest after all.
Holding out his plate for the freshly grilled steak, Xiu smiled when Lazarus handed him a choice cut. “It looks wonderful Lazarus, thank you,”
By then Lazarus’s attention had shifted to the other picnic attendees and Xiu was left to his own devices. Perhaps he’d have Lazarus to himself once the fiery Raevan was off duty.
As he was about to leave, a familiar face appeared and Xiu beamed with delight. “LuLu! So glad to see you! Err…are you here to sample some grilled meat? There’s a batch just fresh off the grill,” said Xiu, nodding in Laz’s and Zeke’s direction. He did not think that rabbits ate flesh but then again LuLu was a Raevan. Perhaps she could.
“I was just about to head over to the dessert table and grab a soda. Perhaps a key lime pie too. Would you like to join me?”

[ Solo & Raz -- BBQ stand w/ Zeke, Vesna, Eden, and Lulu ]
Raz let out a shrilled laughed as she playfully tried to stop Zeke from hugging her. Though, obviously, the woman was more than willing to get that hug from her good friend. Bear hug versus bear hug, with all the good squeezing involved. “Awww, but you know you love me~.” She teased and let out a giggle when the other guardian gave her a peck and returned her to the ground. Vesna’s voice greeted her next, and the pink haired woman grinned at the lovely Raevan. “Hey Vesna. Nothing much, but the summer heat! I hope you’ve been having fun.”
“Hey Vesna, Zeke. Sup.” Solo floats up with a small nod as his greeting, though there was a small roll of his eyes at his guardian’s cheeky grin. “Yeah, met Vesna and her guardian a while back. Can’t really forget the cool bean now can I?”
While Solo was holding his urge to ruffle Vesna’s hair, Raz was taking note of the new individuals they had just met. Eden who was pretty as a flower, Lazarus and Xiu who both have legs…And then a lovely rabbit who came floating in. Someone who even Zeke didn’t know! Aside from her attire, Raz would be lying if the tattoos(?) on the Sigel’s arm didn’t catch her eye.
“It’s a pleasure!” she greeted with a wave to everyone, “As Zeke mentioned, name’s Raz.”
Solo lifts his head for a moment as if to see if anyone needed him, but when nothing came up he went back to his own attempts at greeting. Eden’s response to the introduction resulted in a sleepish grin from the monochrome raevan who greeted back, “Right back at’cha. It’s not every day I get to meet someone so lovely.”
Hearing that the steak was done, Solo looked at the food curiously while Raz pulled out her cellphone. Why did the latter pull out her cellphone? To take pictures of Solo of course. It’s rare for Solo to show interest in solid food in the first place, but the fact he was now picking up a slice needs to be put into the photo album. One bite, and the monochrome Raevan was hooked. Apparently he really liked meat because he was reaching for seconds. However, amongst the excitement of meeting new people and the newly acquired taste for steak…Solo did look a little disappointed. He would occasionally take moments to scan the area for someone spotting purple hair, but it would seem she wasn’t here today.

Following LuLu's urging, Pohl had ever so briefly angled toward the volleyball game, but he hadn't stayed to play. Instead he had floated back to his guardian's side, vaguely overwhelmed by the sights and sounds of the barbecue and the beach. Confronted by so many things to see and people to meet, Pohl hadn't known where to go next, given the absence of small animals to demand his immediate attention.
"Do you want to build something?"
With his wide eyes still trained on the clusters of guests, Pohl nodded shallowly, trailing after his own arm as Fisher tugged him across the sand. He came back to himself as a cool line of white goo snaked down his arm.
"Rub it in so you don't burn."
"Burn?" Pohl sounded faintly alarmed.
"Not like the stove, don't worry. It's called sunscreen. Sun tan lotion."
Pohl began to rub as instructed, nodding as he did. Once he got over the initial shock of the chill, he found he quite liked this sunscreensuntanlotion. It smelled like protection, a feeling that only intensified when Fisher slathered his face with it as well. The slimy layer was less pleasant there, but once he got his fingertips and palms clear of the stuff, it grew far more bearable.
"What are we building?" Pohl asked, watching as his guardian got settled.
"A castle."
"Big enough to live in?"
Fisher chuckled. "Not this time. But maybe someday we can try making a bigger one out of more permanent stuff."
Pohl considered this quietly, unmoving save for the buzz of his wings. Eventually he nodded, floating lower to examine the pails and small shovels that Fish had unearthed from his bag.
"You fill a bucket with water and use it to wet the sand. Then you mold the sand in another bucket, turn the molded sand over after it's had time to set, and stack the bucket-shaped sand things on top of each other." He chuckled again at Pohl's obvious confusion. "Come on. I'll show you."
