It seemed Keeper bit for an eternity, but no matter how far he pushed himself, he seemed to get no closer. Eventually he could stand no more, and he collapsed onto the briars. Their thorns stabbed his cheek, his neck, his side, but he felt no pain. Keeper had not dreamed since he died amongst the thorns, but eventually he'd find his way to the hound again.
"You're back!" it barked, eyes wide.
"Back? Have we met?"
The hound's mane bristled, and it said nothing.
