August 2017 Math Prompt "GEMDAS is a mnemonic used to remembered the order of operations in math problems; Grouping (such as parentheses), Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. Today we're going to play a little game to see how much you have learned." Rules: Roll 5 d20s. Treat the numbers as if they are in this pattern: N1 - (N2 + N3) + N4 x N5 = Sum. (Example if I roll 5 d20s and get a 5, 18, 9, 20 and 4 it'd look like this 5 - (18 + 9) + 20 x 4 = 58 ). Post the sum with your result. Post a small RP response in the thread with how your student felt about the assignment. 4 - (4 + 1) + 3 x 17 = 15 Sweet Tart had such a head ache as he looked at this math problem it made his neck hurt, why did he need to know this stuff anyway. His head ache wasn't helped when he started hitting his head on his desk and he sighed then he tried to do the math problem hoping he had gotten the problem right but he wasn't sure. He sooo didn't have a future as a math person because he wasn't good at math in the least. Sweet grumbled about evil math questions trying to ruin his day why were some numbers negative anyways?

Compared to how she felt when she was a freshling Yin felt so much better about her world than she did when she was little. She looked around the class room wondering if any of the other students needed help, that was if she got her math problems right, she could have been wrong when she thought she was right. Ok, Yinzhen wasn't 100% confident just yet but she was working on it.

It had been his dream for a long time, he wanted to take care of infants and freshlings, maybe even juniors. He got up and handed his math work into the teacher then went to sit back down and read one of his medical books still the math class ended. He wasn't really paying attention to any of the other students while he waited for the class to end.

He handed his paper in any way after all he didn't think that everything had to be right for him to pass this math class. After all no one was perfect he certainly wasn't these days missing one eye and scars marking his body. He had gotten off lucky though, many from the battle had lost limbs or their lives, like his parents who hadn't survived the infected invasion.

August 2017 Math Prompt "Today, we're going to count as high as you can!" Rules: Roll a d100 and see how high your Freshling can count! Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Gaius' brain was powered down. The boy could barely structure a sentence let along count to one hundred. The boy blinked blearily from lack of sleep, vision swirling together. A crooked little smile fell on his lips, and the boy made an incoherent sound. Was it ... a number? Even Gaius wasn't sure. A few minutes later after reigning himself in, Gaius started to count. He got to about 19 before the poor boy dozed off.

They were starting to learn about GEMDAS, and while he had heard horror stories he never truly believed it would be as bad as his older siblings made it out to be. How wrong he was. Raa had screamed several times during his assignment, reefed in his hair in frustration, and even start crying once or twice (three times, actually). He was more than happy when the clock struck 1am and he could finally throw his pencil out the window, his homework complete. Shame he had to be up at 5:45am to get to school ... were teachers aware of the workload they gave their students .... ?

It was incredibly embarrassing that, at her age, she couldn't ******** count to 100. Her cheeks flushed in frustration. Maybe it was just stage fright. The need to perform and to perform well that caused her to stumble and stutter and for her mind to go blank. Yah ... that had to be it ...

Castiel scratched at his bangs as he tried to figure out where he went wrong on his last question. Where had he gone wrong? Did he not follow the path he was supposed to? Why did math have to be so HARD! Castiel's head fwumped down on to his desk with a small groan, his pencil rolling away from him. He did not want to finish this assignment ... not one bit ...

Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Keres could count pretty high, numbers basically where repetitions so once you knew the pattern it was easy to count pretty high. However everyone else wasn't doing too well so Keres didn't want to seem like a know it all. They had enough problems do to other things, and their voice was so soft in the first place. Taking a deep breath, Keres got to about 30. It would have to be good enough. Saying things out loud was tricky, those who got the assignment could show off but those who struggled with math, well they struggled out loud and then poeple would make fun of them. Couldn't they just write it down?

Cider detested math. Numbers made less than no sense to her, and when she came face to face with this problem, she felt like crying. She really, truly felt like bursting into tears in the middle of the classroom. The numbers were so big and there were so many of them…well. Gemdas, right? So first she had to do the addition in the dumb brackets, so that was easy, that was twenty three. So now the equation looked at least a little nicer…
11 – 23 + 17 x 11
Hardly any nicer, but hey. She was trying. Now she just had to figure out what seventeen times eleven was…
After a few minutes working it out, she came up with 187 so now the equation looked even nicer. Sort of.
11 – 23 + 187
Well, what was 11 – 23? It would be a negative number…so…negative twelve? So…now it was just
-12 + 187 = 175
There! She did it. With a sigh of relief, Cider scribbled down her name on the paper to make sure she got credit, then ran up to turn it in, promising herself a nice long rest with a good book to help her calm down from all of this.
She really, really hated math.

Sipping his tea, Laviticus knew there was not much he could do, especially considering he didn't wish to cheat. He tried his best to calculate things following the steps and would simply have to hope that he was at least somewhat correct.

Post a small RP response in thread with how your student felt about the assignment. Bryony was pretty pleased with himself. He managed to count all the way up to sixty eight before he had to stop. That was higher than everyone else had managed so far. His daddy would be proud of him when he told him, too. Bryony loved to make his dad smile, and Aellys always smiled when Bryony did well in school. He couldn't help his slightly smug smile as he once again took his seat to make way for the next freshling's turn. He wondered if anyone else would be able to count higher than he had. His dad told him everyone learned at their own pace...but still.

While he stood in front of the whole class, he stumbled over the numbers as he spoke. The kid who went before him got almost all the way to a hundred before he had to quit. Gryffyn was having trouble getting half that far. He got to thirty six before he had to sit down. He sighed heavily and rubbed his face. He was kind of upset, but he knew his dad would comfort him. Drayden would tell him that everyone was different. It was okay that he got nervous in front of crowds.

Like science, Ophelia only wanted to know enough too get her a good job as a zookeeper. Maybe if these things were word problems. But they weren't. This GEMDAS stuff made her eyes cross. She did her best to focus on it though, and hoped she did it correctly. This stuff was so confusing, but she needed to pass the class to get into a good school. It was all in the plan. She just had to follow the plan... With a sigh, she handed in her assignment. She could only hope she had understood enough to get it right.
