Two? Well, that was certainly new. Dixon had been able to recall the notices about the expected heir: standard procedure; fill out a letter with as little useful information as possible--OUR KINGDOM SHALL LIVE ON IN OUR NEW HEIR, The new sovereign, our next to govern the land...--and then send it out to all the nobles, expecting them not to question anything. It always was singular. Then again, as the two were lifted by a nice breeze (not literally), perhaps that was for the best, mused the count; simply because he'd hated the complexities of peerage ever since he muscled his way in.

... Wait. Come to think of it, why had he done this? Surely, by his track record as nobleman, it was only to wield a bigger hammer, if you will. He would always tell Youkimi: I hate these slow inbreds; buncha slimy wanks, all of them--even the princesses!--did you see that tart...

And it would go on like that. But, it was best to be excited, no matter what. Made a man look like he was alright with being alive, which of course meant he could be loaded up with more work: a job, kids, DREAMS??

Perhaps not that. That came on its own. You could see it in the count's eye as he nodded and praised the goddess quickly for her gift. You could almost feel--ah! The time, yes!

"Of course, milady," agreed the count nodding or bowing, it's hard to tell which. He was about to transform...

"I beg your pardon, Ophelia, but... Am I to carry you? Or can you fly after all?"

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

Alongside the queen and her guard, the baroness landed in Ethe territory again, but this time in the safety and security of the royal grounds. She dismissed her feathers, which seemed to effortlessly melt away as she turned and as she straightened herself again. With all this flying, she was sure to have a sturdy heart. She hoped it would clear her nerves in the long run.

For now, she could enjoy a moment of quiet tea with the queen, perhaps also waiting to see if they would later be joined by the count. Perhaps, but she wouldn't hold her breath. He was a dutiful man w ho had his responsibilities that kept him busy. Besides this, it seemed that he and the prince had matters of great importance to discuss.

On the flight in, she did notice the fireball that boldly and clumsily flew into the territory, however, she didn't dare approach it and she encouraged the queen not to approach, either. If they were not native to Ethe, they couldn't last long. If they did belong, they were in good hands while in Titanus. She was ready to assist, but she had the feeling that the guard with the queen was more than able to take care of her highness, which made Youkimi simply an awkward guest of the queen.

"I am always grateful for beautiful days to fly such as these," Youkimi admitted, hoping that casual conversation was acceptable, and also hoping that she would lessen the worry within her own heart over all the questions she simply didn't have forum to ask.

They soon took flight once more, but instead of feeling the calming effect the gentle breeze usually gave her, this time, she felt pressured. Ophelia detected a familiar presence not too far from where she was. The large form of a dragon dove to the lake, causing a small ruckus in that area. Was that Dixon? No, that wasn’t quite possible.

The emotions she had been feeling. The anxiety, the pressure, the rapid hammering of her heart against her chest. She recognized what she had felt. It was nervousness. It had been fear. Fear of who that dragon really is. She recognized him. The man who haunted her during the many nights her mind had been infiltrated with countless nightmares. The man who had put her in this despicable situation. Torn and tattered. It was none other than Azazel himself. That scum. Ophelia cursed, yet she couldn’t bring herself to despise him like she should. She couldn’t bring herself to hate him. Not a single bit, despite the things he had so shamelessly done to her.

She clutched her chest, and as if taking notice of the sudden change in behaviour, her guard increased his speed, yet kept a perfect balance as he rushed her back to the abode. He let out a cry, more so an alarming call that would notify the medic, or at least get the attention of the maids and guards. They landed, and Ophelia found her mind tearing itself apart, half from the reminders of the events that had taken place in the castle gardens, what she had been forced to do, to comply for the safety of her country. A yelp escaped her lips as soon as she felt contraction within her womb, and she would be carried into the castle, onto the bed as they checked on her health. She wasn’t aware of her situation, not quite. Her mind had been a mess, confused between what had been specks of her memories and reality. She felt so confused, so lost, and her breathing pattern had slowly gone hay wire. It was one of her anxiety attacks. Just when they thought she had slowly recovered.

Yet in the midst of these thoughts, these split images she couldn’t differentiate between reality and imagination, she thought of Kaede, her loyal companion. The one man she came to love. What would he have done if he were here? He’d curl up beside her, perhaps he’d hold her head, brush his slender fingers through her hair like he always would whenever she started to panic. Perhaps she’d receive a kiss or two which would inevitably make her mind go blank. He’d tell her everything was okay, that he wouldn’t go anywhere, that he would come whenever she called for him. So where was he now that she wanted to see him? Her eyes stung with unshed tears, blood shot and red from the tears she refused to shed.

Liar. He was a liar. He left, like any other would. He left.. he-- no. Ophelia wanted to put the blame on him, to push all forms of responsibility on his shoulders. She thought it would ease her pain, make her feel less bothered, but what she failed to realize, was the fact she was making things worse for both herself, and the people around her.

Maybe things would have been different if she was stronger? Ophelia bit her lip, her flesh turning white the more her teeth sunk into her lips. However, before her thoughts escalated any further, a voice interrupted her, and eventually, her mismatched pair of eyes searched for the source of voice, to which eventually fell upon the baroness. A beautiful day? The queen thought otherwise. No day has been beautiful ever since he had been gone, ever since the fall of Ethe. She still fell on her knees, despite how strong she told herself to be. In the end, it was something too hard for her to do alone. Being strong. It was too heavy a burden.. carrying the weight of this kingdom alone. ”Is it..?” she finally answered, after long moments of silence. The medic left after her condition stabilized, and that no harm befell her children. Ophelia turned her head to the other side, finally allowing her head to rest into the soft fabric of her pillow. ”I apologize for this disgraceful sight.. I had wanted to speak normally over a cup of tea..” and how disgraceful it was, for the queen to reveal such a weakened state to another.

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

Having never met the bold and black dragon in person, she couldn't have known exactly who he was, however, anyone foolish enough to blaze through the toxic fog was one who was foolish enough to rush to their own death, and too quickly threw the consequences to the wind. They earned no sympathy from this baroness. Yet, she found herself more upset than she wanted to feel, knowing and coming to see how the queen reacted. They landed, and her face was pale, her eyes distant with a series of conflicting emotions that were just outside of Youkimi's ability to translate.

The attendants of the queen were quick to assist, seeing her to her room, assuring that she was well, and also excusing themselves quickly when their own anxiety had passed. To have such a strong reaction at only a sight.... Youkimi began to feel a hatred and rage that she doubted she could ever effectively clear from her mind. A rage, perhaps, that the queen could not allow herself to feel. How long would they suffer the injustices of others and the effects that were impossible to remove?!

Youkimi sat on the side of the bed, just beside the queen. Now left alone, this seemed more a moment to be shared with siblings or closer ken. But, considering the situation, perhaps it was also fair to say these two living phoenixes of light had so few else to emotionally fall back to. To call on.

Youkimi broke decorum and took hold of Ophelia's hand. This woman had only ever been kind and hospitable to her. Deserving of respect, care, and love.... There was love in this kingdom once. She held the pale hand in her own, which was only slightly more touched by the sun because of her recent days being out with her people. A blessing made possible because of the graciousness of the goddess. Ethe's fire.

"There is nothing disgraceful about this, Ophelia." Youkimi stated simply and with a strong assurance. She heard her voice, and for a moment wondered if it was her mother speaking. Nevertheless, she looked at the queen's eyes and managed a smile. They were in Ethe. They were safe here. Youkimi would make absolutely certain of that. "You have been strong for us. Now let us be strong for you, so that you can be happy with us in the days to come."

Whether it was a woman's instinct or simply Youkimi's ability to discern, but she knew that all was not well with the queen. There was too much discomfort, too much anxiety, fear. It didn't radiate out as boldly as Dixon's, nor surely did anyone's emotions radiate out in tangible temperature quite like his, but one did not easily hide what they feared when they detected it or reflected on it. Does one stop a child from screaming at the presence of a sudden spider?

".... Something has happened to you."

▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇
Why had she told Youkimi all these things? Was it necessary? She didn’t want to involve anyone else with what had happened in the past. It was done with. She couldn’t even face the emperor, let alone harm him. She couldn’t bring herself to murder the children in her womb, no. She couldn’t even bring herself to hate Azazel for what he has done.

“Something has happened to you.” and it certainly has. For a long while, something so shameful has been done, yet the queen didn’t even have the right to protest. She didn’t have the right to accuse him for what has been done. Where has the fairness gone? What has made this world so cruel? So horrible?

She remembered, the way his hands rode up her thighs, how loud the sound of torn fabric had been in her ears. She remembered his scent, the overwhelming feeling of his body weight against hers. ”Stop-” she uttered, her voice breathless and weak. Did she not even have the right to keep her pride as a woman? As a ruler? Does she not even habe the right to at least keep her head high? Does the fall of a kingdom, meant she had to cast aside her dignity as a royalty? Is this what it meant to be a ruler? The bottom of the food chain? Is this the consequences of showing kindness in this cruel world? If so, then may the gods damn her with the will to hate. Take away her right to show kindness. Let her have full reign over her kingdom and rull with violence, with force. Let her.. climb to the top. Yet despite so, she knew it was impossible. Ophelja could never hate. ”Stop it--” she repeated once more.

The sheer terror, the anxiety.. Her world was silent, and soon, everything came crashing down upon her, all at once. The maids, as if knowing that she had begun to feel unwell, had knocked on her door. “Your Highness..?” she knocked once more. It was the faint knocking of knuckles against the wooden door, yet to Ophelia, it was as if an army of people stood beyond that door, slamming their hands upon the wooden door frame. ”Go away-- Go away--!!” she screamed and yelled as she clutched her ears, begging for the noise to stop.

“Ophelia.” a voice called. “Ophelia..” it repeated, over and over again, the deep baritone voice she feared so deeply. The door opened, only to reveal how disheveled her appearance was. Her long silver locks draped messily around her shoulders, a few loose locks covering her features. Amidst the doorway, despite only being a maid, the queen saw a man with tall stature and short raven locks, accompanied with the clattering sounds of armor as he walked. ”S--Stay away-!! You monster--!!” she trembled, curling up at the corner of her bedroom chamber. Her voice shook, and her eyes had lost the glow it once had, the cheerfulness they once held. Instead, it had been replaced with disgust, and a mixture of what seemed to be fear.

Amidst the shadows, lurking beneath her bed, was a set of amber orbs, and a bloodied pale hand reaching for her. She recognized his uniform, the pale blue locks of hair. “What have you done to me?” he uttered, his voice vengeful, full of hatred. Had he not tried to stop the assassination, would he still be here? Would he still be laughing alongside her, holding her whenever she was haunted by her nightmares? ”Not my fault-- no.. It’s not-- I’m not-- Go away--!! Stop it-! It’s not my fault--!!” she yelled, throwing whatever she could get her hands on towards the doorway. The maids screamed for the medic, and some would try to calm her down, only to make the screams worsen. It was hard on the ears, as if she had been so mercilessly tortured. It was unbearable to even look at her.

The medic arrived, burning what seems to be a sort of herb that would induce sleep if given strong doses. Instead, the scent would calm her down, and her screams would subside, leaving her as a quivering mess, drenched in her own tears. Was she responsible for what has happened? She couldn’t think straight. She didn’t want to. If she had been just an average person, she would have been labelled a mad woman. She was carried back to her bed, however, she refused to let go of her guard, refusing to let go of anyone who was near her. She was afraid. Afraid of what lurked within her mind, what would come for her when she’s asleep. If she were to be seen by her people, in this state, it would be impossible to secure her position as their queen. Then again, she begged to be relieved from her duty. She begged to be released from this doomed hell they were all living in.

Baroness Youkimi Kai

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

Fortunately, she was able to arrange her affiars so that she could be reached by any of her people if something came up. However, she trusted the local management of Kaishin to her knights and those of her staff that had helped her in Bellris. Her heart broke as the official word came back from the ones she had sent to investigate the burning at Bellris, and she directed those they brought back to be buried in Kaishin, in what remained of her ancestral burial site. The matter was seen to, and though she was not personally present for it, it was done with the reverence it deserved. This was not something to celebrate.

Now, remaining for a while at the palace, Youkimi worked alongside the palace staff to learn of the affairs of the kingdom and to assist where she could in helping the nation settle again. There were many reports that came to the queen, and with her permission, the baroness was able to work through those reports and see to it that those who were returning to Ethe were able to return to their homes or to be more suitably settled in one of the towns that had begun to settle its roots and foundations in any of the remaining and claimed providences of Ethe. She learned more fully of who remained among the ruling nobility, and they were dangerously few. In fact, only herself and Count Titanus had visited the queen....

So few.... which of course left those lands largely unattended, and reporting to the queen. This only added to the woman's stress....

Youkimi worked through her own feelings on the matter but she managed to arrange the lands and its people among the remaining and dutiful nobility. She stood by her previous decision concerning the land and the people who lived upon them. If the nobility wished to reclaim the land of their birth now that things were going well, they would have to reclaim it from her.

When she had seen to these matters, and after she had just finished her breakfast, she went to see the queen, as she had every desire to. In taking Ethe more fully under her wing, she also took the queen in her arms. Support was needed here. The goddess had given her strength by repairing the land and now she could use that energy and motivation to help its burdened queen.

She saw the guard's worry as he stood just outside the door, watching his fellow being held so tightly to by the queen herself. She was pale and her expression hidden, but her tense shoulders, the desperation of her grip, all suggested a fear so deep and sharp that it was present again before her eyes. She learned from the servants that the queen sometimes had moments like these, when her previous pain was as real and present as it had been then. This had gone on too long. Too long hiding the trauma.

Youkimi entered the room, being so bold as to take a tray of food from one of the servants and kindly excusing them from the room. She approached and set the tray down on one of the tables in the room before taking a seat on the queen's bed again. She took hold of the queen's hands and coaxed them from the grip of the guard. He would tentatively retrieve. He wanted to be helpful.

"Lady Ophelia," Youkimi kept her voice calm and gentle as she spoke to the stricken queen. "It's alright. You are alright."

▇ ▇▇ ▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇▇▇

There were worse cases other than her uncontrollable wailing and cries. At some point, when a maid approached her in attempt to calm her down, Ophelia had attempted to strangle her whilst murmuring Azazel’s name beneath her breath. She had been remorseful ever since, and couldn’t help the terror she had been feeling after the day she had been assaulted, after the day people left her, one by one, claimed by death. The Ethelands that was once known for its riches, were now known as a mass burial, a mass graveyard.

Was it the right decision to entrust the kingdom to Youkimi? Will it be alright if she stepped down and take that time to recover? She hoped so, but there were so much going on, so many matters she has to keep track of. The food, the well-beings, the trading systems. No.. No. Ethe is in good hands, who else would she have given it to? Who else.. other than Youkimi and Dixon? No one. Absolutely no one. Ophelia’s grip around her guard tightened. It could have fallen into the hands of Azazel at one point. No.. She couldn’t imagine what her people would be put through. They would be treated like pawns.. like, animals. No, she couldn’t imagine.

So what should she do now? What can she do in this state? What would her husband do, if he was still alive? What would he tell her? She was sure she had become a laughing stock at this point. She could hear the faint whispers, albeit non-existent. She could hear them, clawing at the back of her mind, digging away what’s left of her sanity.

”Your highness..” he murmured, only able to stand by her for the time being. Was he allowed to even give her a pat on the shoulders? He’d decide otherwise. It wouldn’t be right if he sent her into another state of shock.

Youkimi stepped in soon after, and the rest of the maids, along with the medic, would leave them be. The guard, however, was still tightly held onto.

”Lady Ophelia.” she called out, and the queen jumped, revealing her disheveled appearance. Her eyes were bloodshot, void of any emotions other than fear and anxiousness. She seeked reassurance, she seeked safety, and nothing in this kingdom seems to sooth her fear. A hand was extended, and her hands would be pulled away from the guard. She would panic ever so slightly, but soon enough, Youkimi’s voice could be heard once more. ”It’s alright. You are alright.” she murmured, and those words alone, despite being insignificant towards others, would sound like a saving grace. Ophelia returned the grip, and the trembling upon her fingertips would slowly subside.

”I am alright-..? I am-- alright..” she repeated. Chanted, to be precise. The baroness’ hands were warm, and Ophelia found comfort in them. When was the last time she properly took hold of another person’s hand? She couldn’t remember. Not the slightest. ”Youkimi.. Have I-- have I gone mad..?” she asked, remembering just what she had done in the past. Her fingers around another person’s neck. She remembered, how fragile it was, how easily it could break. It frightened her so. ”Am I hurting people? Am I-- a bad person..?” honestly, she wouldn’t know. But if the children who have returned see her in this state, there would be no doubt she would be labelled an ‘evil queen’.

She shook her head free of such thoughts, already calming down from the breakdown she experienced just moments earlier. ”Has it been hard on you managing the kingdom’s affairs? I hope.. you don’t overwork yourself.” her voice was weak, yet it was filled with worry. She hoped it wouldn’t take a toll on her health, it wasn’t what she wanted when the queen appointed her as a stewardess.

Then came her concern regarding the discussion between Roland and Dixon, their spoken olan of rebelling against Hysteria. ”I’ve written a letter to the Duke of Norcross, and he willingly accepted the request to provide shelter for Roland.” she paused, ”But-.. will they be fine..? Roland and Dixon. Will you be fine..? What do you think will happen..?”

Living today without a way
To understand the weight of the world

The queen took hold of her hands, fortunately relieving the guard the awkwardness of the moment. He was excused with an acknowledging nod from Youkimi, yet even in the moment, he hesitated as he began to step back. He felt as though he might still be needed, which was a natural and instinctive response to any in distress, especially one of such importance as the queen.

Then, after a moment, it was only Youkimi and the queen. Ophelia, fortunately, did come around as she heard Youkimi's voice and as she held her hands. Sense and presence returned to the beautiful multicolored eyes... but still there was that lingering concern and fear in the voice of the queen. Youkimi could not speak on madness, but she knew enough to verify that what the queen reacted to was very tangible to the poor woman. Her worries, her fears, her terrors.... and her memories.

"No... no, what you feel is real." Youkimi acknowledged softly. She knew also that the queen had not been the one to hurt the people. This was a reaction to others that were harming the country they loved. Others were culpable for the tragic state of things. "There are many wonderful and capable people here whom we can depend on, who help take care of our country. They have been very kind in lending me their aid and assistance and advising me on matters of importance. Ethe will prosper yet."

As the queen calmed further, and especially when she asked about the two men they departed company from the day before, Youkimi's expression softened. "I trust both men found a way to discuss what worried them both in a peaceful manner. They are sensible men and were both calm when we left them."

Joachim settled into one of the waiting room chairs. He was welcomed warmly enough, tho he had to bend the ear of some of the guards to get them to tell the queen that he was waiting. as his presence was announced his brows furrowed. to much seemed to have happened. he had already dealt with the issue of crime in Etherland once before. he knew the main problem could only be restrained for so long. He hoped the queen would be able to help with his new plans. but the way the guards looked made him worry something might have been wrong with the queen.

as he sat he stared at the floor his mind playing over his meeting with the two goddesses. he needed to talk with the queen. one way or another. something big was on the horizon.

In such days, what waiting room exists beyond a drawing room or a room one chooses to wait in? Ah, but regardless, the knight that was convinced to relay the message found himself turned away and soon enough another knight turned and moved with purpose and speed to the room where the mayor was waiting. He might have deemed his message important, but he must not have been properly informed of the situation. Had he been so, perhaps he would not have considered being so bold and insensitive.

The knight barely managed to contain himself as he opened the door and entered the room where Joachim was. He steadily relaxed his grip on the handle of the door and straightened his back.

"Esteemed Mayor," the knight began with a respectful tone, though there was restraint in its delivery. "I regret to inform you that this is not the best occasion. If you feel that the topic is indeed so dire that it requires royal attention, the Baroness Kai will see you in due course. If this is not the case, I have been tasked to escort you out of the palace."

The knight straightened his posture in a dutiful manner. He knew the mayor was seen as a friend of the queen. The only problem at the moment was the timing and the boldness with which he had forced himself onto the property. This was improper of any gentleman, not calling in advance.

He waited for the mayor's reply with stern and urgent expression. He wished for an answer promptly.

Joachim sighed. his fingers massaging the bridge of his nose. " then where can i find the baroness." he stared at the knight. " if it did not require royal attention i would not have barged in, i would have sent word of my intention young lad."
his voice was calm yet there was an edge. to it. worry began to fill his face. " what is wrong with the queen?"
his mind began to race. could this bee because of the other goddess? but he doubted that. still. he needed the queen to come with him. tho at least he would be talking with someone that had actual met Agni, that should help him a little bit.

Unfortunately for this particular phoenix knight, only his face was young. On occasion he regretted not growing a beard to convince others of his age, but at present, he was not in the mood for such thoughts. The protocol for this was warped, perverted if urgency meant that it was in any way proper to intrude upon Her Majesty, regardless of her state. It had always bothered the knight when some showed up unannounced. Or rather, when any felt themselves so high and proper as to withhold their identity until the moment when they threw open the palace door, leading him and his fellow knights to immediately tense as though they had fallen under attack.

The knight clasped his hands behind himself. He was not at liberty to say what the condition of the queen was. "The baroness is currently with the queen. She will be able to meet with you in due course."

What was so drastically important that the queen needed to be disturbed? What was on this man's mind? Why didn't he bring his own escort? A herald? A messenger before him? He was of status enough to at least have those things.... Bold or desperate?

The knight's jaw was tense and his eyes never left the mayor. "I am not at liberty to say, save that she is not well."

Joachim frowned. " i see." he stood up and stared out the window. " tell them that the second prince sent me to meet agni. i am fearful for the queen, and the safety of the nation."
he had decided to trust the man in front of him to relay the messages importance. " i am here to discuss many things, but that is the only one of importance. after that i will leave and deal with the other issues by myself. but the gods are moving. i must meet with the baroness immediately to let her know the situation."
the queen was not well. could this be a message from Agni herself?

The knight took in this information calmly. The safety of the nation was always of concern. The toxic wall that kept out the other nations was a blessing that should never have been taken for granted. As long as it lasted, they were protected and kept safe. He hoped it stayed but also knew that it would not last. The wall would fall. The world outside would meet them. He knew of the dangers. He was informed of the burning of the house in Bellris. He knew of the death of the tortured lord at the borders of the fog-wall.

The second prince sent the mayor here... And most specifically, the mayor feared for the queen and the nation's safety. What other news did he bring?

The knight held his tongue and inclined his head. He would go and speak with the baroness concerning the arrival and that the mayor needed to speak to someone urgently. He prayed that his return would not be met with disappointment. He inclined his head to the mayor and began to leave.

"If you would wait here, sir Mayor, I will relay your message." He turned and closed the door behind them. His steps were deliberate, and he took a few breaths to deliberately calm himself, but in time enough, he returned to the chamber and knocked before opening the door only a crack. "My humblest apologies for the intrusion, your majesty. Baroness, the mayor would have a word. It is of great import."

▁ ▂ ▃ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ Ophelia Estelle Quatrez Queen of Ethe
❛It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one.
We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up.
And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know.
It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is.

Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.❜

○I'm feeling anxious.
●I'm speaking to Youkimi at the moment.
○I'm currently wearing something formal, minus the wings, of course.
●I have 700EC on me.
○I currently have feelings for no one.

She still felt uneasy, letting go of the person assigned to accompany her wherever she went, the person assigned to closely follow after her, to ensure her safety above anything else. Ophelia never liked that, sacrificing themselves for her safety. She was of great importance, yes, but there were still people who could manage the kingdom even without her presence. Youkimi, for an instance. Ophelia felt she could trust her. She could tell a kind person from the look in their eyes.

Yes.. What she felt was real. The memories, the terror, the fear that accompanied her through the many months. The shadows, the bloodied figures and voices clawing at the back of her mind. They felt real. Were they perhaps words.. no-- the blame they put on her when she failed to help her people? Her heart throbbed painfully, and her breath hitched. Had the baroness not accompany her, she would have started to panic once more. ”I.. I want to make it stop-- It’s so loud.. the voices. It tempts me to empty the contents within my ears..” her voice died towards the end, and she’d stare into the empty space, yet her eyes suggested otherwise. She seemed to stare at something non-existent, perhaps a different space altogether. She seemed to be looking at what her mind was portraying, the little specks of imaginations and cravings she prayed could happen despite knowing it was no longer possible.

However, all things came to an end once the baroness’ voice rung within her ears.

She lifted her gaze, multicoloured eyes meeting those that held the shade of the night sky. Alas, she was given the privilege to hear something that sounds pleasant to the ears. She was glad there were many providing aid, teaching whatever that was needed to know. ”I trust you, Youkimi.” stated the young queen, her eyes glistening ever so slightly with what seems to be hope. Hope for the kingdom’s recovery. ”So should you ever face any difficulties in the future, please.. do not hesitate to ask me.. I will still guide you through..” her lips curve into a weak smile, though it fell shortly after. ”I’ll entrust this kingdom to you while I--.. try my best to recover.” and she fell silent soon after.

She felt relieved. She’d like to believe they’ve settled their business in the proper way, however, there was still a lingering anxiousness within her chest, a worry she could not wipe off. How could she still remain so calm despite the series of tragedies that keep happening? Ophelia admired, and envied her strength. She couldn’t. She couldn’t handle her stress. ”Are you happ--” are you happy? Her question remains unfinished, upon hearing a gentle knock on her door.

”"My humblest apologies for the intrusion, your majesty. Baroness, the mayor would have a word. It is of great import.”

The mayor? Why is she not informed regarding his arrival? Where was the letter? Had she dropped to the point she was not even allowed the right to know the arrival of a person before they barge into what she deemed to be her ‘safe haven’? ”Please.. no more surprises.. I-- dislike it.” This place was the only remaining place that offered a sense of protection, and the least she expected was to be given the right to at least feel safe in these walls without the sudden intrusion of.. an outsider.

No--.. No. Ophelia shook her head. There was no need to feel irked ovee trivial matters. When had she minded such things? Perhaps.. her patience has been wearing thin? It seems so. Ophelia turned her head towards Youkimi, forcing her lips into a barely noticeable smile. It felt heavy, for some reason. Perhaps it was because she had been drained of her energy. Perhaps she was just mentally exhausted from her duty. Perhaps the weight of reality has finally been weighing down upon her shoulders. If anything, she felt as if she was suffocating. Ophelia placed a hand above the baroness’, and gave a brief nod of her head. ”Duty calls.. I would have spoken to the mayor myself, should I have been a lot less.. disheveled.” she stated. ”I will not keep you from a matter of importance.. You may go. I will be fine. I will be.. fine.” and somehow, it seems, the queen was speaking, and reassuring herself, more than having said words directed to Youkimi. Perhaps, she just needed a reminder from herself every now and then.
