Well, the fact that she didn't understand was quite evident. She was in a panic now thinking she had done something wrong, and he was in a panic because he did something wrong. This was on him, and somehow he had to fix it.

"Yes. Yes, it is us and not him. Which is very important. But when Tristen did that with Sunny, your father was really quite angry. And I rather enjoy his company." When it came down to it, Raken knew he could hold his own if Kurt genuinely tried to attack him. But the resulting fallout of a lifelong friendship was something he'd like to avoid. "And, it is the right thing to do. I believe he could come to terms with the idea, but I have to talk to him first."

The demons hand slipped from her shoulder to her face, brushing away some of that hair that had created a shroud. "And while yes, being with me is relatively safe, leaving my side could prove dangerous. It wouldn't be safe for you to travel outside the City without protection. And you would have to be careful who you talked to about what. No mentioning to any pae you don't know very well that you know about me, or any connection to me. There are pae who will capture my family to get to me." It wasn't like he wanted to scare her. This was precisely what he wanted to avoid. However Menolly wanted to be near him, for what ever reason he couldn't fathom. If that was what she wanted, she had to know what came with it.

This was the first time she'd heard the story of Sunny and Tristen from a different perspective. The event was so long ago and between two stints in stone almost nothing from her childhood stuck. "Something about her not calling him dad, it hurt very bad." That stuck, a random fragment of a long ago memory. Without enough of it to pull together, her response came out a bit disjointed but it wasn't like it was needed.

It mattered to him, so it had become something that mattered to her. They were friends, it was selfish to ruin a friendship just to get what she needed. Her eyes went downcast because of how horrible she had been, and how horrible it was that she still felt the same way. Still wanted what she had right here right now, the haunting image of sleeping alone and having to spend so much time away from him warred against her spirit of right and wrong.

Hunching her shoulders she offered, "I have the alpaca blanket from the ranch, couldn't we send Dad a letter?" He could come to them, she'd show her dad how happy she was and it would all be okay. It had to be.

His touch was very much welcomed and she leaned against the hand when it came to her face. Loosening her wing death grip on her back, she still listened to what he said. He wasn't pushing her away, even saying leaving his side would be dangerous. Could that mean he didn't want her to leave?

So long as it was with him, nothing he could say would scare her. "I understand! I'll stay close and not say anything about you to strangers." Stay close, thats where she was safe and that was the most important thing he could have said at the moment, it brought back a small smile and allowed her to relax further chasing the storm little by little away.

Not calling him dad? He blinked at the two completely different things. "While I'm certain that was a point of aggravation, Kurt nearly disowned Sunny because she wanted to be with Tristen. Which is why we must do this right." Though it seemed to pain the angel, there wasn't much he could do. Telling Kurt was a necessity, it had to happen.

At mention of making a letter, he nodded thoughtfully. "We can give the letter a try. If we don't hear back, I'll send out scout's to find him." His shadow birds were quite effective at finding what he wanted and delivering messages.

The next part about imminent danger and potential of capture or death seemed to be glossed right over. She perked right up at the mere thought of staying close to him. The demon sighed. If that's what she truly wanted, she was a grown adult and could make her own decisions. "Then you can stay close to me. However, I am going to teach you how to fight. At first light tomorrow we'll start in the park."

Raken received a blank stare from her for a while as dueling concepts warred. Her daddy would never do that! But, Raken said he had and she believed him too. Would her her Daddy disown her? It should terrify her, but it didn't. It was her daddy he wouldn't and having not seen him in so long he'd become as much a concept as he was ever a real pae. It can't be, but it was and she didn't know where to even start.

At one point she started to say something but the words caught. Even on the verge of her own tongue she wasn't sure they were words. Emotion raced within her and she didn't know what to do with him. One one side was the father she idolized and adored. One that was so far distant for so long he might as well be a painting. On the other side was this mean man who tried to disown her big sister. The more Raken talked the more that figure seemed real. The painting on the other side called to her and she had no idea where to turn.

Both were so distant and Raken was so close deciding what mattered was hard. Clinging to what was near by, she made sure her hand was touching his chest. This was real, the beating heart was real, that she could grasp. Dueling constructs couldn't be confronted. "I'll send a letter first thing!" What first thing meant was the moment he really did pull her out of the bed she wasn't sure she'd see again.

Fight was an odd word when she applied it to herself. "Okay!" Agreeing was easy, but really the angel had no idea if she was capable of causing anything any harm in the first place. More, it was spending time with him that she was looking forward to.

He nodded when she agreed to the letter. "Tell him we should meet up. This is something which needs to be done face to face."

The demon started to feel a bit of relief. They were going to tell Kurt, and she was going to learn how to fight. The two most pressing concerns.

Of course there was also the feeling of him doing this. Again. Last time he had a relationship with a female it ended badly, with his heart in shreds. But they couldn't go backwards, only forwards. He was not the kind of pae to lay with someone then cast her out the next day. We'll take this one day at a time. Love is far away. Who knows, they may end up not being compatible. But if she was willing to put her life on the line simply to be near him, he would not push her away.

Raken softly cupped her chin to bring her face forward, giving her the barest whispers of a kiss on her lips. "I appreciate your flexibility with this."

"I haven't seen him in ages!" Oh, idea, she had a great idea, "I could make dinner for us all and we can talk!" It had been so long she couldn't even remember what her father liked to eat. Huh, well she could make something Raken liked and her dad would probably like it too. Cookies were probably a good idea too, sweeten him up so he is in a great mood.

How long did it take for a letter to come back? She didn't want to wait days or weeks to hear her father was coming. Where would they be in the mean time? That question was the most pressing in her mind. What happened when they got up? Tonight? She couldn't bring herself to ask, a negative answer would be too much to bear.

He chased the frown that threatened to appear away by the mere touch. One feather light kiss and all the tension in her body melted away. He wasn't getting away without a return, but Menolly did behave and leave a small kiss in return, "I am so happy right now!" He wasn't going to just leave her, first worry washed away and she got a kiss!

That was a good idea. Soften the old man up with food. He nodded in agreement. "We have a plan then. We'll send a shadow bird with the letter to his ranch, get a reply back in days. Hopefully all will go well."

For right now though, his head was pounding. He was still quite hungover from last night, and all he wanted to do then was curl up and sleep. So after her return peck, he settled back down into the sheets, pulling her down with him from her propped up position.

What difference would it make if he kicked her out now? For a bit longer, they could stay together in the bed. At least until he was willing to drag himself out.

XD if you'd like, we can end this now and start the next for tomorrows training session? Menolly with a stick, what could possibly go wrong?

"Of course it will!" sunny confidence poured in as the emotions of the morning washed away. From the rocky stormy beach left nothing but placid waves and happy thoughts.

Absolutely no argument was to be found with Menolly, the angel settled back down with Raken. A deep sigh signaled another nuzzle against his chest as she cuddled closely.

Things would work out, the Guardians allowed them to meet like this. How could anything that felt so prefect possibly be wrong?

When they got up for the morning she'd get to writing as all levels of positive ideas flowed through her mind. No way Kurt wouldn't be happy to hear from her and to come visit. It would be a nice visit, else Kurt was getting the pout of his life!
