Leeroi stepped down into the basement, surprised to find that the cage was one mutant short. He rushed over, knocking on the bars. "Hey kid!" He shouted, "Where'd your buddy go?" Cocking his head, he tried to see if the other kid was still breathing at all. Leeroi realized the kid was dead regardless, but he didn't want to feel like he was talking to a wall. "Your friend leave you?" He asked, curious. "Were they your friend, even? Hey, kid!" Peering around, he tried to see where the other kid might have gotten out, taking a closer look at the entire cage.
Leeroi was getting frustrated. Clearly, this was useless. Whatever, he told himself. He didn't even care that other mutantblood escaped. They were concerned with their lives, and they made it out safe. Leeroi would maybe never see them again, but he didn't have any more reason than the next to care about them.

Sure, the party was over, but that didn't mean Alifax's work was.
He marched quickly back west, and raised his eyebrows to see the mussed up rug and floor both strewn with items in the library. Quickly he dropped to his knees - Alifax Bunsem had never shied away from physical labor, after all. And he'd just done it in the eastern outgrowth. He sorted through the items on the floor, looking for anything of interest. Well, papers and evidence and tinted files, of course (and possibly more cylindrical smoking devices), but also perhaps more candy. Or drinks.
Or tracks, he thought. The rug had clearly been walked on by investigators at this point but it still had some evidence of having been...uh, interacted with. And in all honesty you could never be sure whether investigators were supposedly innocent, either. The celebrities were being watched every time anyone stepped into a block with them - anyone could be paying them, or something. Or some people could just be blinded by their faith in some particular person. Or working for the queen, privately.
Well, whatever. They weren't Alifax. He gathered his findings and moved to the desk to finish up his notes, careful to pick up the evidence from the rug as he did.

Ҕᾁʐɱᾁʂ Ҏӫςɧῒɱ xxxxxx Southern Outgrowth > Western Outgrowth || Library Hazmas stepped into the block, his hands in his jacket pockets, and looked around curiously. It seemed the room had been receiving more traffic of late, particularly from the pacing orange blood. The young greenblood eyed Tigwyn as he searched the book case obviously looking for something. He also appeared agitated - which was a change from the relative ease he displayed last time the two of them were in the library.
"Looking for something on the shelf?" he asked, his arms folded across his chest. Hazmas narrowed his eyes at the orange blood's response, his mind straying to what he'd found on the shelf. "What do you mean 'fill in the blanks'? Like, catching up on recent events or piecing the mystery of this murder together?"
It didn't take long for Tigwyn to provide an answer, but if there was anyone Hazmas didn't trust, it was him. He was the only one no one really knew about, and thus little if any info on him was available. However, that also made him incredibly low on the suspect list. He wasn't as perturbed by what happened to Epratt as everyone else, because he obviously had little if any connection to him. If anything, he seemed to be the least likely of all the suspects to have committed the murder.
"Thanks for your time," Hazmas said with a nod, and hurried back to the hivestem. Perhaps with these last clues, the case might be wrapped up at last.

Lorata had intended to hurry right on back to Central Hivestem, but belatedly she'd realized there were still places she hadn't seen! Like that basement she'd heard about, for instance. So here she was, instead, breezing through the library in search of the stairway down. It didn't take terribly long, and soon enough she was descending into the room, eager to see what might be left to be discovered.
It was...a little disappointing, actually. It was just a basement. Dimly lit, the floor crowded with boxes and that cage, an irritating blueblood bothering a mutant. The seadweller hopped down the last couple of steps and looked around hopefully anyway. Maybe there was something worthwhile on the walls? There had to be something somewhere. Surely this was where she'd find the one little piece that helped stick everything together. Or maybe everyone had already stomped all over this room while she was busy.
She cast one more annoyed glance in Leeroi's direction with the thought. Probably him, if all he could do with what little time was left was kick at a cage. Really, the kid wasn't even talking back, how pointless was that? Sighing, she turned to head back up.

Looking up from the waste bin, Elidae glanced across the library near the window to see a familiar blue figure, speaking with Tigwyn. Her expression crumbled. Even from the distance, she detected patched up wounds all over him and felt a pang of remorse. Were those... from Kursha? Still fresh in her memory, Eriida's words swung back and forth dangerously in her think pan. It wasn't as if she wasn't aware that some trolls were much more aggressive than others, but the thought of those two specifically, the fact that she wasn't there to stop it... the throbbing pain in her chest strengthened. Leeroi had left already, and she halfheartedly considered running after him. However...
In the midst of her thoughts, every light went out. Again. Elidae froze. Remaining in her position, she silently dropped the paper she was sifting through in her hands, breaking out into a nervous sweat. As her breathing began to labor, suddenly, there was a mysterious presence.
“Hey. You all right?”
Within an instant, Elidae tensed up, taking in a very loud, sharp gasp. Reflexively, she whipped around from her huddled position prepared to strike, hands readied into fists. Before she could make any further action, in the moonlight she could barely make out the familiar greenblood. She blanched, staring. Then a long sigh.
"Ohh." Just as immediate, her body relaxed somewhat as she held a hand over her chest, seemingly relieved. "Its you." When did he get in here? She cleared her throat, a light yellow dusting her cheeks from embarrassment. He had asked her a simple question and she responded with defense.
"I'm..." She started to answer him, but paused. Frightened. Stressed. Anxious. Troubled. Confused. "Fine. Just tired." She finally said, strained and pitched, but put on a pretty smile, nonetheless. "Trying to do what I can." She giggled, gesturing to the waste bin before her in the darkness. After a moment, Eldiae studied his face. Since that night in the tunnel, she hadn't been able to speak with him one on one, always seeing him from a distance or with other company. In truth, she really didn't know him that well, but... but...
"It͟'s ҉un̸fa̢ir̕ h͢o̡w͝ t̷h̡ey ̵t͞ŕi͏ck ͘y͏ou͝ a̧ǹd h̛i̕d͘e͝ ̶t̷h̢ei̸r҉ tŗu͟e̴ ͜selv̵és̵ f͘r̵om̢ ̷yo͡u͝ E͟l̶i."
Despite Eridia's warning, Elidae aggressively suppressed the attempt to shatter her illusion of him. Whatever the purpleblood had meant, she couldn't register it. Or at least she made effort not to. Looking to him with softened eyes, she lightly brushed his arm, blatantly pretending she found a piece of lint or something silly like that. "Are you all right? Haven't seen you around much." A pause, then a small laugh as she joked. "I can't see anything. Lights keep going off."

The yellowblood spun to face him with surprising speed. Oops. Noting her tense silhouette, he supposed he had startled her. Not all that surprising considering the first time the lights had went out, someone had died. It was purely a defensive reflex. Even after she recognised him though, her voice remained strained. With her face cast in shadow, he could not make out the smiling mask she donned.
“Hm...?” He picked up a scrap of paper from the floor, as though to examine it. He could not make out a thing. “You must have pretty good eyes to be reading in the dark,” he said lightly. Though she could not see it, he offered her a grin. It carried through in his voice.
“I'm all right,” he responded, shifting so that he sad down beside her. “Kind of annoyed that so many people aren't taking this seriously. Someone's dead and they wanna make a game out of finding the killer.” He made a sound of disgust. So many kids had proven more problematic than they were worth. With any luck though, they would be a little more forthcoming with a bit of gentle reminding.
For a moment Kursha was quiet, as though thoughtful. After a significant pause, he spoke again. “I think I saw the brakers in the basement earlier. I might go see if I can find them and bring the power back. You gonna be okay here?”

"My eyes are very good." Elidae giggled. As he continued to speak, she nodded her head along and hummed in agreement, smoothing out her dress. Even if she couldn't quite see his face, the moonlight barely dusted some light, she could tell he was smiling from the way he spoke. He must have done that a lot. It was a sharp contrast from when she first met him.
"Well... many people have their own agendas." She said thoughtfully. She supposed she could have been guilty as well. Distraction from the gloomy atmosphere was easy if one paid no mind to it. Elidae certainly didn't enjoy the thought of the culling. Even when they were searching for a killer, she found it hard not to be social and make friends. Or not-so-subtly flirt with someone, but it was also a sincere attempt to gain more information. But also to talk to the cute bloodblood. She certainly made an effort to bounce back and continue her investigating afterwards, though.
"Oh yay! Please do!" Elidae clapped her hands a few times, thrilled by the idea. Yes, but... she would have to stay here? Feigning composure, Elidae forced a lighthearted laugh. "Uhh, yeah! Sure, I'll be okay!" The second she finished speaking, however, she immediately felt regret and changed her mind. Backtracking quickly, she found it hard to explain what she wanted into words.
"Actually-wait, wait-no-don't..." 'Don't leave me here in the dark.' were her thoughts, but she clamped her mouth shut. She fell silent for a long moment. Suddenly, she shook her head. Even as she attempted hiding it, her tone remained quiet and pleading. "Can I go with you?"

Kursha rose to his feet and had been about to take his leave when Elidae spoke up again. He glanced back down at her. There it was again, that anxious note in her voice. Something had her worried. In the darkness, he arched his brows. Contemplating the sudden shift in her nature, he paused.
“Sure. Why not?” he answered, sounding indifferent. He extended a hand towards her. “You need a hand or anything?” No point in them tripping over each other in the dark. As soon as she had given her response, Kursha slowly made his way to the basement door. For a moment, he had to feel along the wall to find the handle again. Once his fingers grasped the knob, he pulled it open. Looking back over his shoulder, he said, “Watch your step.”
Partway down the steps, he spoke again, “So...” It occurred to him how little he knew about this troll. “You allergic to the dark, or...?”

Somewhat blindly, Elidae brought herself up to her feet and waved her hand around in search of his, fumbling about until she could get a good grasp on it. His hand was surprisingly warm, rough, but not extremely so. She smiled with appreciation at the gesture.
"Well, thank you!" With the peppy tone returning, she gladly trailed after him, a skip to her step. When he spoke, he caught her off-guard mid-step, Once she balanced herself, she blinked rapidly.
"A-A-Allergic? Don't be silly!" Nervous giggles erupted in her tiny frame. "I just don't like it is all." After a moment, she grew silent, grip becoming stronger.
"It's hard to not be, um..." Swallowing hard, Elidae paused. Revealing her fears to someone she barely knew felt irresponsible, a risk. Did she trust him with that sort of information? Sure, she was somewhat of a blabbermouth and found it difficult to be dishonest, but... such information could be held against her. However, she pondered over whether he already had an idea. No matter how much effort she put into disguising her fear, she still felt like anyone could see through her. Persistence in denial was key.
"Brakers, huh?" Once Elidae stepped down the last step and onto the solid ground of the basement, she twisted herself underneath his arm, doing a full twirl in the dark. "Yaaay, finally!"
