Luno smiled, pleased that he had yet another easy to complete assignment. It was also a little fun. Not the magical illusions he had wanted to learn, but the more mundane. These were still important! After all, knowing how to trick the eye was just as important as knowing how to trick the world. His image was a pink and yellow monstrosity that wasn't fashionable, but fun to look at. The clocks also gave it a sense of being a statement piece. Time warped by perception, by the eye that beheld it. If only Luno was more talented as an artist, perhaps he could also make these.

"There are many types of illusions. Today we will do a brief session about those that appear to move, but do not. These are called optical illusions, they can be very... difficult." Tethys nodded to the books on their desks. "Open your textbooks please.... We'll go over some examples... and then you'll all have an opportunity to share some you like with the rest of the class."
Rules 1. Find a picture that shows an optical illusion that appears to "move." 2. Have your student bring it to class and present it. (Spoiler large images.) 3. Post a short RP response about coming to class and participating.
Tethys has tasked the class with mastering "Spell Mimic." In order to do so, he's set up the class in groups of two or three. One student will cast any spell they know, the other must mimic it. Spell Mimic uses the Casting method, so your student must be able to remember how to properly Cast the spell- this may be done verbally, or with a specific motion that Tethys has gone over with the class.
Write a 250 word minimum response from the perspective of your student's experience with the assignment. You do not have to actually team up with another person to do this - feel free to use NPCs.
NOTE: Roll 1 d100, if you roll 45 or above, you may add the spell "Spell Mimic" to your student's personal spell book! If you do not roll, it is assumed that your student did not learn the spell (they still pass the class). You may reroll until you learn the spell, but each roll must contain a roleplay response. Only the success roll must be 250 words.
Prompt Response: Avocado paired up with a blue imp and he was trying to mimic a Telekinesis spell that they knew, he had watched the teacher, doing the mimic spell. He must have said the words wrong or did the movement wrong because the spell failed. Avocado wasn't giving up just yet he would trying again till he gained the spell or he wouldn't it wasn't that big a deal. Nothing that would make Avocado mad or anything, not there were many things that would upset Avo that much. He was a pretty calm laid back neko after all, but he did want to learn magic.

Prompt Response: Avocado frowned he tried again and failed again, this was really hard to do. Avo turned back to the blue imp and said "Ok please do the spell again maybe next time I'll get it." Avo bite his lip this was a really hard spell and he was starting to doubt a little that he would be able to do it this year. Maybe he just wasn't ready for this spell yet. That wasn't a bad thing since there was always next year to learn the spell. He didn't need to get it right junior year it would be ok.

Prompt Response: Avocado and the blue imp were both getting really annoyed, Avo decided to try one more time to get the mimic spell right. It was so hard and the blue imp was doing there spell right, so why couldn't Avocado get this right. He sighed and wanted to head out this wasn't worth getting upset about he had tried and that was what was important. You didn't always have to be perfect to learn something. Avo would do his best and if it wasn't enough he would study and try again another time, maybe he needed more rest before attempting this spell.

Prompt Response: Avocado failed to learn the mimic spell, perhaps he just didn't have enough magic to make the spell work. He decided he would try the class again senior year maybe then he would gain the mimic spell. It was ok though he would try again senior year and maybe then he would have enough magic to do the mimic spell. He thanked the blue imp for trying to do the spell with him even though it didn't end up working out. The imp seemed grumpy and bothered, seeming to think Avocado was foolish or something. Avo just brushed it off and finished the class.

Prompt Response: Caron attempted to cast the mimic spell but he wasn't able to do it, he spent the rest of the class watching the other students attempt to cast the spell it seem it was a tricky spell to master and Caron wasn't all that worried about magic to spend a lot of time on the assignment when he really just needed a credit for his senior year graduation. So Caron watched and took some notes about the spell before leaving the class to head back to his dorm room to rest for a while before he needed to write his paper on going to university.

Prompt Response: Aedus was working with a demon who was having trouble learning the spell for themselves, for whatever reason the spell came easily to Aedus he was able to do the mimic spell on the first try and he followed the directions the teacher laid out without any difficulty. He said the words and did the movements finally the demon was able to get a spell ready for Aedus to mimic. Aedus mimic a light spell that wasn't harmful since no one wanted anyone to get hurt in the class it was best that way. Once he had done the spell once he went to practice it with other students in the class to make sure he had it down to perfection. Aedus wanted to know all the magic spells he could in case the infected ever returned he wanted to be ready to defend the school without getting as cut up as he had the last time. Aedus needed to be more powerful so he could protect Nimah and the school, he had made friends with the others who had stood up to the infected. Aedus wouldn't be surprised if many of them were taking magic classes as well, so they would never again be so ill prepared for an attack on the school. So many had become infected and hunt during the infecteds attack on the school. Which made it painfully clear the students were not meant to be fighters without a lot of training. Training that Aedus wanted.

Prompt Response: Coco tried again to learn the mimic spell it was still not easy for her, but she finally managed to get the spell right mimicking the spell a blue imp had just performed where they turned a flitterat purple. It was a cute spell and Coco wanted to do it too. She did the words and the movements and finally copied the spell the imp had done. Then Coco continued to practice spell after spell since she hadn't been able to do it the first time and now she was still feeling a little shaky on the spell. Coco never wanted to feel as helpless and confused as she hand after she had been clawed by one of the infected having the queen in her head was a nightmare. The infected making her feel like she was all alone in the world had cut Coco to the bone her heart felt broken. Now she knew that wasn't true Coco was able to make friends easily if she tried and she deserved to have a happy life, even if it meant she had to take pills for the rest of her life to suppress her infected nature. The infection couldn't be cured but Coco had to learn to live with it, perhaps some day they would find a cure. Coco felt distant from those who hadn't been in the battle, she had bonded with Vanna, Kingston and Eliwen. She still wasn't sure what she was going to do about her relationship with Calypso though Coco still loved her she wasn't sure she was the same demon anymore.

Prompt Response: Magic had always fascinated Ren. Maybe because it was so prevalent in their word. Breeding was through magic, technology was through magic. Well crystals but you needed magic for so many things. Ren liked understanding things, he had always been interested in science. So it was obvious that once Ren was old enoug he would start entering into magic classes. He wasn't sure what drew him to illusion but here he was.
Of course today they where actually learning spells instead of just taking about the theory behind them and Ren was a bit nervous. He was always more the study type than the actual practical go out and do type. However he would try his best. He would never learn it if he never figured out his weaknesses. He got paired up with a hybrid and wondered how much more difficulty that would be. Obviously magic tended to lean towards only one of their races than the others. Did it cause a disassociation inside them?
It was something to ponder and maybe ask about later. He knew none of his future children would be pure fey. They would be either Grimm/chimera/fallen or some combination. however he was getting off topic again and he focused on the chants and gestures needed to pull off the spell.
It wasn't his first time using magic however He struggled a bit the first time copying the spell, but he had been so close to pulling it off. He just needed to breathe and conscentrate just a tiny bit more. He could do this. He would do this. His significant others said he needed to believe more in himself and he wanted to.
So he tried one more time and it was like something clicked. The spell duplicated the weirdly colored box that had been summoned. Having figured out a method for mimic to work, Ren spent the rest of the class recasting the spell with different partners. It would be good practice, to make sure he had a grasp on it.

Prompt Response: - roll 96
Sally took a deep breath, letting her body relax and finding her focus. She flexed her fingers and watched her opponent. She could do this. Sally focused on figuring out the spell, pyrestia! Flame spells were not her speciality but she was just mimicking it. She could do this, she just needed to start.
She let out her breath and cast the spell, motioning as the demon had to make it more believable, step for step, drawing magic and focused, she could do this. The color and the motion was first, fire was something she knew in tame forms, she added heat to it, making it cast warmth and the sounds. Flames crackle, they popped, they roar, they had noise and it was needed. A shimmer to the air as it was affected by heat.
She licked her lips, holding it the best of her ability. The demon began to manipulate it and she huffed slightly, drawing her magic to make it seem like it moved and moved properly. This guy was a bit of an competitive jerk. Enough. She wasn’t going to compete with him.
Sally let the magic go and accepted a congratulation and went to sit down and think on how to make it better. Speed and spell recognition and being able to remember and cast and shape the illusion with multiple edits to bring in physical sensations, smell, hearing, taste, feel.
But it had been a good first try and something she could use to protect those she cared for. She was going to practice this.

Prompt Response:
What if he didn't WANT to partner up with anyone for some class? Garet felt his shoulders tense as their teacher went over the exercise for the day. While all things magic fascinated the hybrid, working in close quarters with his classmates made him curl his upper lip ever so slightly. Scowling he looked away as he sighed.
If he kept this up, only his twin and his girl would even want to be around him. Sighing yet again, he rubbed his neck.

Prompt Response:
Just this once, Garet kept telling himself. Just this once, it won't be a big deal. He could work with others..even if he'd prefer not to. Intaking a slow breath, he tapped another student on the shoulder. "Hey..let's partner up so we can get this done." He more or less demanded.
The other nightmare simply blinked before nodding in agreement, startled by the sudden demanded request. She had seen the other senior around, but Garet never seemed to talk to anyone. The fallen looked thoughtful as she looked him over briefly. Come to think of it wasn't he always drawing, or ignoring people? "Sure, okay!" The other chimed back with a pleasant smile.
Garet tsk'd before the two went to take their spots in the classroom. Trading off reciting spells, and the desired mimic effect was surprisingly fairly easy. It almost came naturally it seemed once he applied himself. Pleasantly surprised, Garet wondered if all his fuss about working with someone wasn't so bad after all.
Okay. That was pushing it, but at least it had gone well and they both were able to wrap up their assignments relatively easy enough.
"Wow, that wasn't so bad. But I had to keep trying..." The fallen student mentioned as she looked down at her lap with a small sigh.
"Hm..? You did well." Garet mentioned, briefly glancing at the other before offering a hint of a smile. "Besides. We got it done..right?" He added after a moment before going back to his doodling in his journal.

Prompt Response: Soren's first partner wasn't too terribly interested in even trying to learn the spell. Sure, Soren was a bit of an airhead, but at least they were focused for the moment. Unfortunately, neither of them really managed to get the spell down. Not that the demon seemed to particularly care, but Soren was a tiny bit interested in this spell. Ah well, at least they'd be working on this spell for a week or so. There was still quite a bit of time to make sure they got it down. The first day was a bust, but they wouldn't all be.
