Nikora grinned and scooted her chair a bit closer as well so she could take his note. She read it quickly then wrote him back one, not even trying to be subtle about passing it.

The fallen quietly accepted the note and read it, his earwings flapped lightly in delight. Again he scribbled down a response and slipped it to the other Nightmare.
<3 You're prettier times infinity. And yay! I like making new friends and playing tag is fun! I don't use my wings when I play because that would be cheating.

Lior was not the best with sciences or math, but he loved to write and he loved to share stories, so this particular assignment was right up his alley! He just needed to think of an event... Hmmm... Probably when he met Nimbus....
With that settled on, he fiddled with his laptop until it opened up a word processing program, then made sure his headphones were plugged in before he started writing. He'd just have the computer read it back to him after he was done...
I don't remember what day it was, but it was about a year ago that I met my very best friend, Nimbus. Nimbus is not from here, he actually came here because he wants to study medicine! Which was sort of how we met, actually. I was lost, again, and I tripped over my tail and fell down some stairs. Nimbus happened to see me! I don't know if he was lost too, it wasn't near the Enoch dorms so he probably was (not that he'd admit to it!) but it was good fortune!
I banged up my head pretty bad but Nimbus had a first aid kit on him and he patched me up. After that we kept bumping into each other (literally) for a few weeks and eventually he decided he was just gonna follow me around so I'd stop getting hurt so much! Hasn't really worked out but he gets to practice for his future career a lot I guess!
He supposed that did well enough... and there didn't seem to be any typos when he listened to it... Perfect. He saved it and then sent it to Miss Lyra's email for her to read - better to do that than waste paper!

Nikora kept her eyes on Charmstar as he wrote the note, tail swishing happily behind her seat. When she got it she read it through and quickly made another note back with a pleased look.
Thank you! But I think you are just as pretty! <3 Oh, I don't use my tail for the same reason! Too easy to trip someone with it. Does your wings mean you can fly?
Entry: Pepper thought Ms. Lyra was really nice, and so she was determined to do a good job on this homework. First things first, get her name down; then, figure out some words that started with those letters. P-E-P-P-E-R. There. 'Now, what started with P?' She jotted down the first thing that popped into her head. Her word for E came right after. 'Hmm. . another P word. Um. . . Piano!' A third P and she was out of ideas. She would just go back to it! Another E word and the R word were easy.
Now back to the last P word. What could she use. Party! Like the party that they'd had for Miss Ava when she first became headmistress! Excited now that she had filled out her words, she scrawled her name on the top of her paper, trying to be neat, and hurried to the front of the class to turn it in.

Prompt Answer:Aten tapped his pen against the table. Writing assignments were usually quite fun little tasks he thoroughly enjoyed, but this time around he didn't have much knowledge on the subject, which was leaving him a little stumped. Above was a bit of a mystery to him. He would have to think on it before submitting his work ...
Benefits: The average, modern day Nightmares of Below would finally get to meet the diverse races of Above for potentially the first time. It would not be limited solely to the people conducting the trades between the two regions. It would be so amazing to be able to tap in to that culture after so much has been lost to all of us. I feel as though it would fortefy our own need to reclaim our own cultures, and that bringing in these new ways of life, whether through immigration of visitation, would help us really define who we are as a people.
Drawbacks: However, after so long without constant contact -- and I mean this in such a way that Daydreams and Nightmares walked among each other on a daily basis -- I fear that it might cause some culture shock for everyone. With so many races in Nightmare alone, I can only imagine how diverse Above is as well. While I feel it would really help us focus on the qualities we'd like to strengthen or keep as our own -- not only as Nightmares, but as Imps and Geists and so on -- would also cause an even greater divide.
Sometimes I catch myself wondering if it's best we all stay separated. I'd hate another war to break out simply because we have all grown too far apart and can no longer find common ground.
Entry: Hikito swung his feet back and forth as Lyra explained what today's homework was going to be. Write words that had letters from their first name. That would be easy. Here he was glad that there weren't any strange letters in his name, like x or y!
Writing his name in haphazard lettering down the side of the page, he stared at them for a bit, thinking. Oh, oh, oh! He'd write letters that had to do with Haunted Hallows! There were lots of good ones that had letters from his name that had to do with that.

The words were mostly legible, colored a bright orange with a scribble where he had changed his mind for one of the words, but they were all filled out. Pleased with himself, Hikito bounced out of his chair and strode up to the teachers desk. "Don't get scared cuz of the words okay Miss Lyra," he told her, slapping the paper down in excitement. Then he turned around and went back to his desk.

Prompt Answer: Something that had happened to her or a friend that was significant? Maeva tapped her pencil against her bottom lip and thought. There were a couple stories that she could probably bug her friends into sharing, but none of them were something she really wanted to write about. A light bulb dinged and she had her answer. Putting pencil to paper, she wrote.

Not long after me and my twin, Shannon, graduated from being freshlings, I decided to cut my hair. Since me and Shannon are identical twins, we were always being mistaken for one another and blamed for each others' mistakes. It was wonderful and awful at the same time. I always had someone there for me, someone to count on, but at the same time I was never seen to be me.
So one day, one of my friends in Arkham asked me if I wanted a change. They'd convinced me that what I needed was a haircut and they were just the demon to do it. It had been exciting and nerve-wracking all at once. The entire time she'd been cutting my hair I'd kept my eyes shut so it could be a surprise. It took quite a long time for her to do it, and the sound of scissors cutting my hair had been almost drowned out by her chattering. She told me all about this herbalist teacher who taught one of the classes here. Strangely, the babble helped me to stay calm, even when I was practically shaking with nerves.
When I could finally open my eyes, the first thing I saw was long tendrils of my hair all over the floor. The cool air around my neck and ears felt strange (still is) and new. From then on nobody would mistake me for my sister. It's still a shock to look into the mirror sometimes. I keep expecting to see my sister's reflection staring back at me. The new look is different, but I feel it's starting to grow on me.'
Lifting her pencil from the page, Maeva thought. Was there anything else she could or should say? She felt like she had told the story well enough. Signing her name up at the top, she did one last read-through for errors or spelling mistakes. Looked well enough. On her way out the door she left the paper on Miss Lyra's desk, thinking maybe she should take a creative writing class. 'It had been . . fun to write that.' she thought with a smile.
Prompt Answer: 'One significant event that's happened to me was getting sent to this school. I regularly went with my father and mother to their jobs, photo shoots mostly. Sometimes they would take me with them when mother was looking over the designs for her outfits. During one of these visits, the designer let me look through their works and told me about some of the concepts and ideas that had helped to create it.
I thought this meant that he wanted my input, and so I critiqued the pieces as I saw fit. My father overhead me doing this and the artist took offense to 'being told how to design fashion by a unfashionable brat.' He snapped at my father and dropped the job. My parents, upset I had ruined a chance for them, decided I needed. . . to think before I acted and took me out of the boarding school I had been attending. They sent me here instead.'
Elliah had a hard time writing the last paragraph of her story, substituting a few things that were more palatable when the situation called for them. It had been a horrid time for her family during the few weeks it had taken her parents to make the decision. The initial argument had turned nasty and they still hadn't quite apologized for it. A tear slid down Elliah's cheek before she realized it and she hastily wiped it away. Now wasn't the time for that.
Writing her name at the top of her paper quickly, she turned in the paper with the barest of smiles and then fled the classroom. She suddenly wasn't in the mood to be around so many other nightmares.
Entry: Ellis was a little afraid of demons and a little afraid of girls, since the only one he really knew was absolutely terrifying, so when he saw his language arts teacher for the first time, the freshling imp ducked his head and tried to appear even smaller than he was. He took a seat in the back of the room, leaving his mutated eyes straining to see. Luckily, they were given their assignments soon after that, and the Nightmare was content enough to concentrate on his work rather than quake in fear.
He wrote his name neatly on his sheet of paper, but by the time he was done, his work hadn't remained as neat as he might have liked.

Leif was starting to like his classes, and this one was no different. His dad had let him know that Miss Lyra was a very good teacher, even though sometimes she seemed really serious. That put him at ease when he came into the class. Plus, the assignment seemed really fun! He was almost sad he had such a short name.

He hummed quietly to himself, that seemed like a good selection of words? Was "Important" too um... what was the word... He couldn't remember, but he hoped he didn't seem too full of himself using that word for the "I" in his name.

Entry: Pherein groaned and resisted the urge to let her lower lip fall out. She had half a mind to prank whatever caretaker decided that Pherein was going to be her name. There were so many letters that she hand to match up to good words. Well an assignment was an assignment and she was going to get it down.
There assignment was done, and she had somehow connected all the words to something she liked or said something about her. With a smile she placed the assigment on Lyra's desk and ran off to go find her twin.
Entry: It was a simple enough assignment although other than his name Baum was drawing a blank on B words. Well he supposed there were a lot of crude things out there and there was beauty. However he really didn’t think of himself as beautiful in any way and he wanted some of the words to at least reflect himself a bit.

Ooh, this was going to be easy! Phoenix bounced in his seat as he jotted down the letters of his name down in a column. He had lots and lots of things that he liked, after all. There were adventures and sports and treasure maps and running around and....
Hold up, none of those words started with actual letters in his name. He made a face as he looked down at his assignment sheet. This might call for more thinking, especially with that X in there. What begins with the letter X anyway? Still, no way he was letting a little poem get the better of him! He trotted off to bring a dictionary to his desk, then spent some time flipping through the pages until he settled on seven words that he liked. He was especially proud of the final word he'd found. All set!
Caper admired his work, nodding a little. It had taken a little bit to think of something for the 'E' and in the end he had chosen something he had heard Evan use once. Something from her shelf of things he was not allowed to touch. Caper hoped this was something he could take home later like his other assignments as the Freshling wanted to share his words he found, and he was a bit paranoid he would forget before he got back home. Following the example provided by the others, he wandered up and stood on his tip toes to give it to Lyra with a faint smile on his face.
